Perfection is like infinity, you can never reach it. It only exists because its a necessary concept to compare things.

This necessary existence is the same concept as that of God. Regardless of whether He exists or not, the concept of God is a necessity for mankind.

I think that perfection exists, but not for people.

There's no such thing as a perfect person.

I suppose mathematics is perfect, right? 2 + 2 = 4, perfect.

The pinnacle of the entire universe is imperfection. If there was perfection in the universe, nothing but tiny particles could ever exist at any given time.

If we're discussing the physical properties of a human being, you can never ever achieve perfection.
To be a perfect human being, you'd have to be without flaw, and if you are without flaw, you couldn't be human.
Take such a simple fact that humanity is the only species that can get food down the airpipe and choke to death. That's a flaw, and not even close to being the only evolutionary flaw humans have.
Those flaws however, are what makes us human.

So a "perfect human being" is a misnomer and cannot be true.

"What's more imperfect than our world..." - Kevin Flynn

But anyway, no, I don't think perfection exists. And those sayings like, "practice makes perfect" are only figurative.
Everything physical in our world has imperfections, in any case.
Abstract concepts (like maths, as Mr Thin put it) can obviously be "perfect".

Exactly. But someone is ALWAYS going to disagree with you. Hence, only Subjective perfection is possible. Objective perfection is not possible.

For proof: Look up the Portal 2 fiasco on Metacritic.

Someone knows their entropy, I presume?

OT: It really depends on the object of perfection. I'd say that, like beauty, perfection lies in the eye of the beholder. For me, a certain, for example, performance of a piano piece, might be perfect to me, yet someone else may hate it entirely.

So I guess my answer is kinda.

I'll leave it to Kurotsuchi the mad scientist from Bleach:

"There is nothing in this world that is truly "perfect". Though it may be a rather large cliché, it is still the truth. It is the ordinary people who look up to "perfection" as an ideal and seek after it. But in truth, what is this idea of "perfection" truly worth? Nothing. Not a single thing. I detest "perfection". To be "perfect" is to be unable to improve any further. There would be no scope for "creation", not a single gap in one's knowledge or one's ability. Do you see now? To true scientists like you and I, "Perfection" is tantamount to "despair". We aspire to reach greater levels of brilliance than ever before, but never, NEVER, to reach perfection. That is the paradox through which we scientists must struggle. Indeed, it is our duty to find pleasure in that struggle. In other words, the second you allowed yourself to spout a ridiculous word like "perfect", in truth, you had already been defeated. That is if you wish to be treated as a scientist."

It's all about context.

Perfection does not exist in any real, abstract sense. People cannot be perfect, even something as simple as food cannot be perfect, because most things in real life are subjective.

However, you can get a "perfect score" on something. If someone asks you 10 basic yes/no style questions and you get them all unambiguously right, you did perfectly.

Or things can be a "perfect fit", for example, patterns of bricks on a wall fitting perfectly with eachother (which is probably the worst architecture analogy I could possibly make, as the nuances of architecture pretty much REQUIRE perfection...)

So yes, perfection does exist in certain contexts.

Perfection does indeed exist, I see it every day in people, and in nature. Then again, if you ask me, perfection is subjective, thus what I find as perfect might to others be quite the opposite. Still, I stand by my opinion that many things around me are truly perfect.

Also, as others have stated, in contexts of getting a score on a test you can 'easily' get a perfect score. So yes, perfection does exist.

imo, it can only exist with simple things. no person or living thing can ever be perfect, because perfection is based on perception. (ok, maybe they can be perfect to somebody, but not everybody)

but something simple and well-defined, like a circle, can be perfect.

Here is a crazy idea that came to my mind:
perfection exist so that imperfection can.
I have no idea what i just said.

Perfection is subjective as such universal perfection is completely unobtainable, and therefore perfection in an encompassing sense doesn't exist.

However in the event of say a quantative result with a maximum value based on a set criteria, then yes you can get a perfect "score".

Although there will always be someone out there who thinks your handwriting is appalling.

Yes and No. By my definition, Perfection is Imperfection. A Perfect being has no need for anything, and does not need to learn (thus no purpose); while an Imperfect being always learns, needs to do numerous things, and constantly fails (which in turn allows them to learn). This means that being Perfect is a Paradox, and every living thing in the universe is a Perfect being for being Imperfect. This is a theory that I myself have developed and understood (And later found out someone else unofficially developed it... bastards).

EDIT: I should state that in the realm of Science however, this is a different matter... They are simply very hard to obtain :p (i.e. Perfect Liquid = Primordial Element). But since I am not a scientist, I am only sounding like a retarded monkey who found a .44 magnum and is currently pointing it at my head.

2 + 2 = 4. That is perfect.

In something abstract and objective like mathematics, perfection can exist. In terms of something subjective like writing, it isn't likely but it is possible because it is opinion based.

I once had two electives in university. They were very similar in that both were English courses. We'll call them A and B. I wrote similar style essays for both. One criticized me for having too many quotes, one criticized me for not enough quotes. Completely subjective. Perfection is over-rated anyways.

In terms of beauty, they did studies (don't have the source) and found that people are actually more attracted to imperfection.

"Perfection" is an opinion. For example, to a Christian, a "perfect" person might be akin to a priest in religious attitude, while an Atheist may require a "perfect" person to absolutely deny god/s.

Yes it does. I have heard it:

More seriously, I really don't know. Can't you always do even a little better? Maybe perfection is an abstract concept and no matter how good something is, it could always be better.

I hear this all the time : Nobody is perfect. Or in school teachers will tell you ' I can't give you 100% because perfection doesn't exist'.My question to you is , does/can perfection exist.
You don't need to be perfect to score 100% on a test, you merely need to meet the requirements set. The teacher is a jack arse.

If someone asked me to jump 10 times to achieve an A+ and I jump 11 I deserve 100%.

Next time a teacher pulls that shit ask them if their assessment is valid. If they say yes tell them to go back to the drawing board because if someone can achieve the goals they set when they wrote the test, intending for no one to real that target it isn't your fault.

Teachers can be real douche bags.

(Just putting it out there, I am studying education, so I'm not just having a whine, I feel this way after having studied assessment and marking. This isn't a rant, it's an educated opinion. Just sayin')

That's just silly. Point to one weapon that is infallible.
