I was not amused with the way they portrayed Al Gore. Al Gore is a great man who has brought global attention to catastrophic global warming, and those 1/10 wits had the audacity to make him out to be an attention seeking child who runs around with a cape. Funny, but not amusing. -> (I don't want the exact perfect use of words police on me, so if you are a member, I don't care about what you think)
They are amusing people who large numbers of people watch, yet they devout their energy to getting completely off topic when it comes to global warming. No one will give a shit about "smug" in 100 years, especially in the developing world, which will not be able to develop because all their glaciers melted thanks to people wasting electricity watching their shitty television show. They are offensive in bad ways. They're just American rednecks with slightly above average intellect, for the most part. It has been shown that there is no relation between intelligence and humour, none at all, keep that in mind when you watch it. They didn't have a very bad thing on global warming with the lice episode, but with all the insults they level at a couple celebrities, they should have the balls to also level insults at everyone. Absolutely everyone who uses energy, which releases greenhosue gases. But that wouldn't be "cool."
...are you super cereal?
But yeah, I sort of agree. Though they're a bit better than what you just described them as.
They may act as a medium for the most base and immature humor, but it's funny, and if you dig past all the crap you just mentioned, there is some truth and morality in their message.
I think they're really just mocking the sense people get when the buy a hybrid, "I'm saving the environment,
I'm better than you."
Which is bullcrap.
It is bullcrap, the part where you are saving the environment. You're still emittting when you drive a hybrid, and the car needed to be put together with lots of heat, you aren't great at all. If you ran and took the bus everywhere, you would have something to brag about. Also, most pollution comes from inside the house, not outside. That Kyle character was just as dumb as the rest of them when he said that Hybrids might "save the earth." There's no plan to actually cool down the world, if everyone drove hybrids, it would barely make a shit of difference.
True. Hybrids suck (mostly. The Escalade one looks cool, though not really Eco-Friendly.), and Priuses look like eggs.
The thing is, South Park is a COMEDY show, although they do put a lot of opinionated stuff in there, and the real message comes through clear (being a snob 'cause you bought a Prius or turn the lights off when you leave the room is retarded) , it's for Entertainment.
It's funny.
I guess I was just angry that they have so much power and influence, and could really get people to use as little as possible, but choose to talk about "smug." Although I should add that I find them to be quite humourous. Infat, they're pretty friggen funny. Sometimes hilarious.
Yeah, they do have a lot of influence, and it is the highest rated show on Comedy Central...
But I seriously doubt that in the textbooks of 2059, it will say that global warming was stopped in its tracks by a combination of human brotherhood, perseverance and a really funny TV show.

Nope. How could a show that takes the piss out of absolutely everything (or has at least tried to) be offensive to anyone? Anything is fair game for humour in it. Sometimes I find myself laughing at just how wrong it can get (George Lucas, Harrison Ford, Deliverance, need I say more?)

South Park used to be childish and offensive all the time, but they've moved towards more legitimate comedy. Mostly parody.

It would have to be individual determination of people who don't need to have a reward, and perseverance. But I do think that for those who watch it, it could make a serious impact. If using any less than what you really need was looked down on in the same way murder is looked down upon, that would make an impact. And global warming could kill pretty much everything (positive feedback, release of carbon sinks), so it really is the same as murder, even genocide. If they really are smart, they could make that really clear in a funny way, and quit making fun of Al Gore, which is just taking steps backward when EVERYONE needs to be running forward.

Doesn't really offend me, they describe them selves as equal-opportunist offenders so even if I disagree with something or am part of the group feeling the abuse I don't mind because its just my turn. However I have found I don't find it as funny as I once did when I was younger, probably since the shock factor has gone.

If you get offended by cartoons that's a big problem on your list. So no they're just a show that pokes fun at news etc and sometimes goes to far but everything does anyway.

Here's why it doesn't offend me:

I'm White
I'm not American (British in fact)
I'm not religious
I don't have a particularly strong right- or left-wing political bias.

Ergo, I am unoffendable.
