They're alright, I suppose, but something about them just doesn't feel as good as achievements do on the 360.
I think it's because achievements on the 360 pop up and the PS3 is kind of subtle and you don't get a audible notice unlike the 360's *da-dink*

From what I have played it has been so poorly implemented, I mean most of them are straight ports from the 360's achievement list and even mention aspects only available in the 360 version.

It is just a different ethos to gaming that I would never have bought into PS3 over 360 if I had known it would turn out this way, I mean the idea of having a trophy cabinet in your virtual Home space... it just makes you look like a total dickhead.

Achievements seem far more personal, which is kinda fitting with their name "what you managed to do is for YOU!" for achievements whereas PS3's trophy's seem to be entirely about "loo-o-ok at mah trophies!". Even then unless you use Home (and I WON'T) it is unnecessarily hard to access your trophy list. Trophy's just seem so patronising:
"You have earned a trophy!" yay, the game rewards me with something effectively worthless
vs
"Achievement Unlocked" seems more like a fact, a milestone, pride in oneself rather than approval from Sony's Trophy Distribution Unit.

Even the concept of Trophies annoys me, they release them way into the console cycle and they clearly want to be like Achievements but don't want to be too similar... even though PC games have been "borrowing" the concept of achievements (Valve especially) with great success an without any criticism of being unoriginal.

And when you actually win a trophy, I know it's a little thing but the presentation is pretty naff. But that's just my opinion. The "ding" and tucked away in the corner info box with an obscure and hardly iconic trophy symbol.
Agreed, although since i only have an Xbox i'm probably being a little biased.

Also, could you give some examples of when PS3 trophies mention aspects only available on 360?

Never played a 360 but the PS3 trophies make me replay games so they do their job.

If I had a 360, I'd be able to compare them, but overall I do prefer the trophies over achievments after experimenting with Achievments with my friends Xbox. There's something about actually having a Trophy over a puny little number. We all know that Silver beats Bronze and Gold beats Silver it and Platinum beats Gold and those add to your "Trophy Level" in a percentage, but with the numbers it just seems as if "20, 50, 100!" to add to a arbitrary number that do nothing. That's not to say I don't like achivements, I beg my friend to let me actually beat the first level in Halo 3 (he only plays multiplayer), I just prefer the shininess of trophies than the numeric value of achievments.

Of course, that's my humble opinion, but trophies do make me go back and explore a bit more. For example, I'm playing Burnout: Paradise now in hopes to get the Burnout License, and it's great fun doing so. Other trophies like "kill 5 enemies with one punch after softening them up with gunfire" in Uncharted just make me yell "No way, fuck you!" (I could never get that one, I end up killing them with more than one hit...)

Owning both, I've found that I have no desire to acquire trophies while I actually strive to acquire achievements, within reason.

Meh, I play games I like even more due to trophies. For example, I've played Fallout 3 over and over again, and I collected all the treasures for Uncharted: Drake's Fortune (although that game had a reward system in-game for all the trophies), because of the trophies.
And I'm going to get all the single player trophies for RE5, but I won't get the multiplayer trophies, since I don't care for the multiplayer that much.

I don't play any game for multiplayer trophies actually, because I haven't liked any multiplayer to that extent so far.

(For the record, I don't own an Xbox 360)

Eh, more or less.

I remember the Uncharted, Resistance and Rathcet and Clank achievments and skill points kept me coming back, mainly because I actually got something when I unlocked them.

Super big head FTW!!
Insomniac is pretty good in implementing skillpoints in a way that requeers actual SKILL to unlock them. Plus the fact that you don't get a skillpoint just for finishing a level.
Plus you can use those points to get interesting rewards you can "buy"

I got my PS3 2 weeks ago, and I got it at the end of a 5 day long LAN party. I haven't been able to play on it yet, cause i played too much PC at the LAN, so i've got carpal tunnel syndrome or someother shit that makes my hand more or less non-functional :/

After recently playing on my friend's PS3 and earning a couple of trophies I can say that I prefer my 360's system. I like being able to have a score next to my name, not just a number of achievements. Although I don't whore achievements, I only bother with them if they're fun to obtain.

I replay games because they are good, not so I can get a meger reward.

Also, even if the PS3 trophy system is faulty, how would the 360's be any better, because they are essentially the same. Unless achievements actually do something.

This is all I can find for know. I remember there was a very embarrassing one and maybe I have blocked it out (oh the same to PS3 owner, lol) but it was an achievement that could somehow only be unlocked on a 360 and not on a PS3, or possibly it referred to other trophies as "Achievements" or other language showing no care or attention was given to the Trophies at all.

i never cared

and btw .. saying that sony copied microsoft for this is like saying if 1 person makes a game about ninjas then no one should make games about ninjas ever again because someone else did it first

The trophy system made me curse.... alot. But it's addicting to look at your friends trophy level then your's and make an attempt to beat them to the next level.

note: I have no life.

Biased poll.

Also, they're both fine, just since 360 is generally more popular, it ends up being sort of a "standard" for people who care about gamerscore.

There's no "they're pretty much the same" option, there's no "They're both good but PS3's is better" option, etc.

Just, "PS3 all the way," "MS is better," or "MS all the way."

I kind of prefer the 360's gscore, just because I still for the life of me cannot figure out how much a particular trophy will raise your percentage (maybe they should add that next to the trophy as to how much it's worth).

Don`t own a PS3 (yet) but from what i`ve seen and hear it`s a superior system to the 360`s acheivement thingy and one microsoft would do well to rip off
