I think it's because the 360 ships with a headset. Most douchbags use them to be douchebags.

People will run into jerks everywhere on the internet, unfortunately vocal anonymity makes it even worse. And there are too many little children playing online that think it's cool to swear and being a jerk makes them awesome. Ruins it for a lot of us =(

easy, the most sold console with online capabilities is the XBOX, so statistics say that the most common denominator of people (Idiots) bought an XBOX, comparing it to the amount of people who bought a PS3 (who are nowhere near the XBOX) or the amount of people that play on Steam (or PC gaming if you will) its only safe to say that the XBOX have most of the A holes
thats what i think.

I have no idea where you guys are playing but i've been on XBL and some MMO's for 3+ years now and I can not recall any instance of anyone being a genuine jerk. There's been banter and occasionally making fun of british accents till they rage quit but overall it's a pretty silent and acceptable place.

Spend most of my time in halo, mw2, bad comapany, and the odd filler such as unreal 3 so surely I should have ran into the jerks by now.

If there was a way to poll just XBL Users on the same topic they would all say there are no a-holes on XBL. It's a case of what Psychologists call "Self serving bias".

Its the internet, A-Holes are everywhere.

Its like going into the theater. There are bound to be crappy movies. If not all of them.

I am blessed to never encounter little kids talking on the Micrphone. I play Bad Company 1 you see. The only time I met an ass hole is when this guy kept on FFing me .That is all.

Not really. The problem with Live is pretty simple to sort out. First, the service sees the widest common usage. Second, each and every Xbox (except the core system if I'm not mistaken) came complete with a headset. Third, there is no useful mechanism for quality control available to the player in most cases. Since there is no reliable way to ensure you don't play with unpleasant people and all the unpleasant people have headsets so they may further demonstrate how terrible they are, you'll run into a fair number of them at any given moment.

PSN has, as near as I can tell, just as many unpleasant people. The catch is, people have to go out of their way to actually make their voice heard, and as such there are fewer people talking in general. Even if there were an equal distribution of quality players and terrible players, the simple lack of a communication device ensures you are not bothered quite as regularly.

PC gamers have the same tendancies as consoles but the addition of QC measures (dedicated servers with admins for example) means one can find an environment where the ratio of quality players to dirtbags is quite low. That said, the trend these days is to take those tools out of the hands of players, which is a bit unfortunate.
