Ehhh, I actually think this one is just him being sarcastic...
No seriously he shows you his top five list in one of his vids (I forgot which one) and one of them is Dizzy the Egg.

If I'm considering getting a game, I tend to go on Metacritic and read some of the reviews there. I watch Yahtzee for the comedic and satirical value, only rarely does he make me reconsider a decision.

Nope, if I did so many great games like the fallouts, mass effect, oblivion, I wouldn't play.

I think there's a difference between influence, and recognizing flaws of the games you love, and avoiding total disasters of a game. I understand, however, that he exaggerates a lot, and that he by no means is the one to go for if he's reviewing a JRPG or an RPG or an online-mostly-shooter. But that doesn't mean that he doesn't influence my choices completely.

No he doesn't. He is a snarky comedian (and a great one at that) so he is required to lambast nearly every game he reviews. I love his work, but it never affects my purchasing decisions.

Sometimes. I mean... not always, but its nice, and i like to compare his thoughts with other "game experts" that review games and make a sorta average opinion. If i'm on the fence at least.

Also you have no poll.

Slightly, since he's a satirist. Usually he tends to exaggerate, but at least he points the pros and cons out...well, usually more cons than pros but at least I know what I have to deal with, if the worst comes to the worst.

I don't buy a lot of games anyway, sometimes when I'm considering whether to buy a game I'll consider his opinion than make my own. Example: I probably would have bought Mercenaries 2 but Yahtzee's review painted it as everything I thought it might be and hoped it wouldn't be. Didn't buy the game and I have no regrets about that. Still wouldn't buy it.

On the other hand I considered Yahtzee's view on Mirror's Edge where the only nice thing he said about it was that 'it was something different', the rest of the time calling it broken and poorly designed etc. etc. In hindsight I'm sure the review was fueled mostly by annoyance at the price tag. While I wouldn't buy Mirror's Edge at its full release price I did buy it off Steam a while ago and found it to be a lot of fun.

No, but mostly because he reviews console game and I only own a PC. His tastes and my own differ wildly to the point I don't understand what he's getting at sometimes. Still they are amusing from a certain standpoint. It's fun to see a person with and unrealistic expectations become disappointed over and over again.

I do appreciate that someone will relentless attack anime though. That's just not done enough.

He just gives me an idea of what's coming. From his reviews of games I had already played, I could tell he hits some good points, but obviously exaggerates and nit-picks for humour.

He WAS the first one to bring Psychonauts and Beyond Good and Evil to my attention though.

No yahtzee has a terrible taste in games. Spiderman 2, POP Sands of time, dizzy the egg and portal best games ever? Give Over.

I hated the fact he bashed Valkyria Chronicles and Mirror's edge. Those two where amazing games and he only bashed VC because of his distaste of Anime anyway.
No dude because yahtzee likes games but he picks on what are the little details of a game but just as he says, and I quote "I let the other reviewers review, I'm a game critic". Besides he loved portal, again I quote, "Portal is the best game ever and if you don't think so you're stupid"

Yes and in a large way. I greatly value the extra punctuation articles he writes. If not for Yahtzee I wouldn't have bought, and enjoyed, games like Shadow of the Colossus, Deus Ex, beyond good & evil, KOTOR, System Shock 2, ... I could go on but you should get the picture. I don't have a large gaming budget; I can't afford to give every game a fair chance to surprise me. Yahtzee does this and coherently informs me of reasons that I might like, or more often might not like a game.

I usually agree with his analyses, but when my budget allows I test thing for myself, I find that we don't have identical opinions. For example, I enjoyed Mirror's edge and believe that its faults(piss poor story, narrow+linear levels) did not detract from the experience enough to warrant a negative net reaction.

I didn't pay even a fifth as much as Yahtzee/the escapist did
I didn't notice any collision problems, possibly due to the patches released when I played it
I didn't mind flow breaking moments cause I had more than just a few days to play it and we able to replay until I could preserve flow, and it felt good to do the levels with continuous flow.

I digress...

So Yahtzee may not agree with you on everything, but he's a good guide for becoming a more sophisticated gamer(yeah I know I shouldnt use that term/label, so if someone wants to revise this go ahead) and a more logical, skeptical, and reasonable person. (Except if you enjot of RTSs, where his jurisdiction ends)

Thanks Yahtzee

only if he proper bums it to death with a spiked, rusty, critique.

he usually points out the worst then I would check other sites to see if they say the same thing then I ask my buddies.

so yes in a way but not by much.

Sometimes.

Reviews are really nothing more than advertising. So, occasionally he'll make me aware of a product that interests me.

If he says a game is really good i'll check it out like the "Theif" games. Really fun games btw.

I bought Psychonauts and Thief after watching his reviews and my interest in Saint's Row 2 grew after watching that review (though I might have bought it anyway). Beyond that, Yahtzee's never really influenced my purchasing power.

Not really, no. Sometimes I'll take what he says into consideration, but it's never the deciding factor and generally always with mountainous piles of salt.
