My 20th is on Saturday and I don't really care too much.

I wouldn't say I don't like birthdays', I'm not the Scrooge McDuck of birthday's or anything, I don't like present giving though.

I especially don't like expensive presents.

I feel guilty that someone spent so much money on me, this is magnified by my obvious lack of a desire to spend even half that amount on almost anyone in my life and the fact that everyone know's it.

I can't help my cheap nature.

Don't get me wrong, I'll buy an expensive gift, I'll even enjoy giving it. But I'll also hate it at the same time and I'll always worry that my gift is not of equal value, which ruins the entire experience for me.

For a summary of my beliefs on gift giving watch the episodes of "The Big Bang Theory" in which Sheldon has to get gifts (Christmas and a Birthday if I'm not mistaken).

After the pretty low tone I've set with my dislike of gift giving I will say that if you decide to enjoy your birthday it'll be alot more fun.

I have had a few shitty birthday's (My 18th being the worst, which is silly as it's the legal drinking age in Australia) but the good ones have more than made up for it.

Don't take it too seriously but do try to enjoy yourself.

My birthday was a few days ago. I didn't mention it 'cos it's just another day for all I care, although my friend let it slip at work so a few people got me a cake... that was nice.

You only get one 15th birthday, spend it with friends and have fun. Soon you won't be able to make a big deal out of it anymore. You only get one chance to have an excuse to have so much fun!

As for me I love birthdays, I don't make a big deal out of them or ask for persents but I get together with close friends. On my 18th we got really drunk and they shaved my legs and we layed out on the grass smoking cigars and chased eachother around. It was great day and I wouldn't trade it for the world. You too young to be jaded and cynical just enjoy yourself while you still can :D
Im not Cynical!!! people are trying to make it seem like i hate my birthday and i hate everything involving fun i just dont care about my birthday i mean yay i get some money and some presents that aren't exactly what i wanted but i havnt had a party since i was 8

It's cool man. There's alot of morbidity on the internet and it's easy to give - or infer - the wrong impression.

I agree that birthday's are silly. I also don't understand people who get upset if they're forgotten.

You're not alone but I think the Escapist's want you to try have fun. It's no good to see young people who don't enjoy their youth and we all just want you to be happy.

Long story short; yeah, it's silly. Have fun anyway. =]

It's my 18th soon so...nope.

"I don't like getting bothered by people saying happy birthday"

Just not the centre-of-attention-party-about-me guy but I think it would be a shame to miss this one...

There is a point where you're supposed to stop getting excited about your birthday - that time is age 11.

I don't celebrate it for some years now. I used to like it but now I don't do anything special anymore, no cake, no presents, just another day.

Did you ever consider that maybe for some people birthdays aren't necessarily "happy things"? On my 14th birthday my parents argued so much that my birthday dinner was canceled. I can tell you that I didn't give two shits about my birthdays through my teen years, because that's the type of nonsense I associated it with - enduring my crappy family.

Being a bit older now, I don't mind a birthday as an excuse to go to the pub with some friends and have them buy me some drinks :)

Point is, it's not "pathetic" to not care about a day.

Eh. my wedding anniversary is in the same month and a few days after my birthday so that kinda killed my birthday the year I got married then last year it was all about the 1st year anniversary so I'm not expecting much or anything this year. Plus I have to work on my b-day.
So far my girlfriend and I have cleverly (but intentionally) managed to keep birthdays and major holidays and various other events/anniversaries all separate from each other, for the most part. We still even have a few decent months available that a wedding anniversary could fit into with no overlap, but we'll see how that works out.

As far as my own birthday goes, it's not really a huge deal. It's nice to get people together for it sometimes, but I hate organizing things like that. Mostly I'm fine if just the people I see/talk to on a regular basis acknowledge that it exists but don't do anything special or get me anything. If I forget or screw up my girlfriend's, though...

I've got 2 days off a year:

One's Christmas and the other is my birthday. So yes, my birthday is important to me.

I have a birthday in less than 2 weeks and I couldn't care less. Even remembered my birthday just a couple of days ago...

I just had my 19th birthday, which sort of requires the obligatory bar-hop celebration since 19 is the legal drinking age where I live. Last year for my 18th though, I didn't do shit-all. Even my parents forgot about it.

Birthdays aren't really a big deal for me, especially seeing I'm trapped in the physical body of a 12-year-old.

Most definitely agreed. For my birthday this year, my boyfriend bought me an Xbox Elite because my 360 had died. He also bought me Dragon Age, so in all he probably spent around 350$ on me. You know what I did for his birthday? I made him a cake. It tasted like crap because I don't cook, and it cost all of seven dollars.
