Poll: Does Your Companion Have To Be a Gamer?

I was wondering, when choosing a companion, do you take into account whether said person plays video games? Does it affect your decision entirely, or is it a minor issue? Does this issue change determined by sex/sexual orientation? I'd like to find out, as this is an interesting question me and my friend discussed earlier in the month.

So, Escapist users, does (not) being a gamer affect your decision when looking for a possible partner? Please explain why, and vote Yes or No (and pick your correct sex and sexual orientation). Share stories about what has happened due to these right or wrong decisions and opinions!

I, for one, am not bothered by it. Why should someone I love have to enjoy everything I enjoy? Now, I'm sure having a gamer girlfriend would make things much easier on me, but it really only matters if the girl in question does not approve of my gaming and tries to change my ways. That is not for her to decide and I will not stand for a relationship like that.

EDIT:
I did not include a bisexual option as it would become way, way too complex. If you are bisexual, my advice is for you to choose what your most recent love, crush, romance, etc, was, whether heterosexual or homosexual, and choose that in the poll.

I only think they need to accept that you are a gamer. They don't need to game themselves, but if they are intolerant towards it, then it will put a real strain on the relationship. As long as they accept it, then everything seems fine in my mind.

I'd prefer it, but it's not a deal breaker. Actually, it would be kind of weird if someone was on my xbox all the time, and I never got to play it.

I have no idea (as I've had no evidence for either side). I expect not though. I get along fine with non-gamers.

Yes. When you spend as much time and money as I do on games and gaming, she'd have to be a gamer just to not get sick of me. Fortunately I already have one.

No bisexual option? Thanks a lot.

I'm gonna answer anyway, I don't care if my partner games or not, as long as he/she doesn't judge me.

Not at all.

Actually, I'm gonna put gaming a bit aside, when I find my future significant other.

Besides, fighting over the TV, is gonna have a whole new meaning, when both are gamers...

No, my partner does not have to be a gamer.
And I'm bisexual, where is my poll option? ):<
Nevermind, I just picked "Straight male" because I'm in love with a girl.

The only thing I ask of my fiance, is that he spends quality time with me. His family live interstate, so most of his game time is also time spent talking to the family. Other than that, I don't care if he plays games or not, it's part of who he was when we got together and I don't expect him to change that.

I'm not a gamer. Makes no difference to me if they play videogames or not.

Bisexuality is not strictly half-heterosexuality and half-homosexuality. While a bisexually oriented person is attracted to both sexes, they have a slight preference, no matter how slim, to one of them. I felt that the poll would be too ridiculously split if I included bisexuality, even more-so than it is now with the 8 options.

Kind of between a yes/no to me (straight guy here btw). Most importantly, she needs to accept it and not be against it at all (I could potentially be with someone who was against it, but it wouldn't be a long term relationship), but it's a huge plus if she's a gamer herself, cause it's quite a large part of my life (not just as a hobby, hope to work in the industry one day) and something I really enjoy talking about and doing with others.

So? Bisexuality is still a very real thing and its different from strict hetro/homo even with a slight preference. Its just narrow minded to dismiss bisexuality like that. The poll being "ridiculously split" is your own fault. If you really wanted to see if sex and sexual orientation affected anything, then you aren't getting accurate results by omitting one out of convenience.

I might be wrong but isnt the poll already full? And maybe that's why he had to leave it out in favor of something else

No but it would be cool. All I want is for her to not be bothered by my passive gaming sessions...

I imagine I would have to consider doing something stupid and irresponsible like somehow managing to convice someone to be my "companion", as you put it, before I start considering things like that.
But no. As long as they were not outright hostile towards it, I do not suppose I see why it would matter all that much.
