Ok, I like to wear tank tops and such, but I despise it when people stare at me. And I don't mean like, sneaking a glance or whatever, I'm talking openly staring. Where I live I get it a lot from both men and women and it pisses me off to no end, partially because I know it's from having tattoos and piercings. But all I can think is either have the balls to say something or stop staring!

In this case I think the guy was totally justified in his staring. If the girl was wearing something revealing, and in this case she should have been wearing a uniform anyway, she couldn't have expected not to be stared at. If I walked out of my house without a shirt on, people would stare simply because it would be out of the ordinary. If I didn't want people to stare, I would put a shirt on. I would not go around looking for people to yell at on account of their stares.

People aren't inanimate objects, even if the tattoos are they're still attached to a person, and people like me don't appreciate it when you just gape openly at them without something to say, whether to apologize or give a compliment or whatever else.

Depends on your cultural context. The defense of "she/he was asking for it by dressing that way" is the same either way though and stupid for both since humans can control their bodies and choose to resist impulses (they do it all the time) and stimuli.

I would look at someone who was exceptionally skimpily dressed the same way I would at someone wearing an extravagant costume. Out of the ordinary clothes garner people ogling all around you.
If she attempted to make out that it was a sexual thing, I'd tell her I was annoyed she assumed I found a) women attractive b) skimpily-clad women attractive c) her attractive.

Well I suppose that's subjective.

The only thing I have to say is that it's not quite fair to equate someone eyeing you up with rape is that rape is something that is physically and consciously done in full knowledge of what it does to the other person, whereas looking is subconscious. So whilst someone can not rightfully rape someone no matter what they were wearing, there are some clothes that will genuinely draw looks.

Though I will admit I've been approaching this from the stance that people meant just looking, but no, staring is kind of creepy. Guys should try to reel their eyes in a wee bit, but sometimes it genuinely isn't something you can help.

I'm not saying that looking at someone is the equal of rape. I'm just saying that if a guy did something to eliminate the possibility of one's staring being due to creepy and unwanted attention, then a level-headed woman wouldn't be offended by it.

I mean, having someone randomly tell you that you're beautiful is something that could make a girl's day, but someone just staring could mean anything.

I agree that people can and should control themselves better, but someone looking at you because your boob is hanging out is nowhere on the level of actual rape, from a psychological impact standpoint. Sure, it may be a little creepy and all, but if you dressed that way on purpose then you should at least be expecting some kind of attention given to you. Boobs are like a grenade, not a smart bomb, they hit everything around them, not just a specific target.

Well there is a difference between checking someone out a little and staring at them. Girls don?t just dress up for guys sakes and when they are fishing but if I was wearing something skimpy or even when wearing normal jeans and a t shirt I'm ok with being checked out to some extent. But when the guy keeps staring at my ass constantly for 15 minutes then it?s starting to get creepy, no matter whether he is ?hot or not? and don't give me that "guys can't help it" bullshit.

Your argument is illogical. Staring doesn't hurt anyone, rape does. That's the difference. Besides, why would you show that much skin and then complain that guys will look. If I was walking around without a shirt on, I know people would look at me, and probably stare.

Thats why i love the summer. Less clothes on girls, and an excuse to wear sun-glasses, which makes stareing like a freak easy to hide

I don't know a single guy who doesn't at least sneek a peek at hot girls, heck half the girls i know does it as well, stare at other girls that is, and all of them stares at hot guys.

Men are preprogrammed to 'check out' the ladies in case we see a possible breeding match. Since the caveman days we have become a little more evolved (hopefully) and we are able to ignore these attention seeking whores

The argument that they 'dress to make themselves feel sexy' doesn't really hold water. They wear shoes, which cut/ blister their feet, cake on makeup til they resemble a waxwork, endure many hours having things waxed, lasered and bleached.

The reason they do this is to attract the most 'optimal' mate i.e money, power, looks etc (in that order)

The proof? If the guy having a perve was *insert Hollywood heart throb* then this girl would have blushed and been happy to have the attention. But insert the creepy guy and hey-presto sexual harassment.
