My guess? Better than DA2, they'll improve on what they broke. Still, it won't be as good as DA:O, particularly due to the attempts at "broadening the appeal", which only serve to alienate core Bioware fans. The game will seem pretty good, but still have some major flaws and they will completely butcher it with a fucked up ending, which will toss the whole series out of the window. How's that sound?
I read somewhere that there is supposed to be 4 Dragon Age games, at least I heard that sometime back when Origins first came out, if it is so, then we have to wait for that one to have a butchered ending.
Luckily, the Dragon Age team is not the Mass Effect team, so I don't see any problems unless they decide to allow Casey Hudson to destroy scenes in this game too.
I didn't mind DA2. It wasn't as good as Origins, I see what they were trying to do and I don't think they quite succeeded but overall it wasn't bad. I REALLY fucking hated the repetative environments though, and that brought down the game sigificantly. But I think I'm in a minority, so what do I know.
Yes I think DA3 will be better, Bioware do seem to be willing to learn from their mistakes what I really want to know is what's with some people's problem with a voiced protagonist?
I'm expecting a hybrid of Origins and Dragon Age 2, skewing more towards DA2 but with more polish (and less cut-corners). I think it'll be very interesting to see how it actually turns out.

The biggest problem I have with a voiced protagonist in this particular franchise (key words there in italics) is that it limits who you can be. It would be impractical for them to have a different voice for a male and female dwarf, elf, and human (or other races, like Qunari, that we haven't been able to be yet). So they'd have to pick one race again like in Dragon Age 2. That's a bummer.
DA1 was boring although fighting was good. DA2 i enjoyed the story although major issues with the game world. If DA3 fixes what i didnt like of the first 2 games then it should be worth buying. Or, more likely, will just rent off lovefilm.
You wonder why they couldnt put both controls of DA1 and DA2 and allow people to chose which they prefer? Maybe that will help sales and fans of the first game.
I'm honestly not expecting anything from it. Could be good, could be bad. I don't really care either way.
Which is sad considering how much I loved the first one. I don't really care because:
a. I don't want to have to use Origin and I'm sure it will require it.
b. DA2 pretty much killed any enthusiasm I had for the series. It wasn't a bad game, but it wasn't a good game either, so I find myself without any strong feelings about the series either way.
My plan is to wait until it comes out. Check out some reviews and gameplay vids. Hopefully get a demo. Then, if it looks OK get it when it comes down in price. Considering I got DA2 for ten bucks on Impulse less than 6 months after it came out, I expect I won't have to wait long.
Well, personally I like a few of the changes they made for DA2, and while I feel DA:O was definitively the superior game, it could learn a few lessons from DA2. I liked the idea of what the third game is supposed to be about: saving the world from itself. Granted they could totally fuck up that premise, but I'm optimistic. Say what you will about DA2, at least it tried to have a somewhat complex story. It fucked it up, but there was a lot of potential. The glimpses into the Qunari religion and way of life were fascinating, and a great, if indirect, allegory for the benefits and problems with religious subjugation in general. Meredith could have been a great examination of the fallacies of a police state becoming greater than the threat it was meant to prevent, but it got screwed up when it turns out that
The lyrium idol had made her crazy. That story would have been more meaningful and interesting it if was the result of her own arrogance and self-righteousness rather than a magical macguffin.
As good as the characters and some of the subplots were in DA:O, the main plot boiled down to: save the world from these bad guys with one goal, who are totally predictable, and have no redeeming qualities. Kinda boring.
All in all, if they learned anything from DA2, then I'm optimistic that DA3 will be at least a good game, and maybe a great one.

Thank you for saying this. Meredith could have been a much stronger antagonist. I agree that the Arishok was done much better. I can even see why his ideas would appeal to people.
Now, I do think Loghain had some redeeming qualities in DA:O, especially if you talk to him early on at Ostagar. He isn't a total douche canoe all the time. He could have been a lot stronger, though, if the descent-into-madness-and-paranoia had been easier for us to see. The way the game is now, he just tends to come across as a horrible usurper who I feel no guilt over killing.
Awakening, though, I thought handled villains beautifully. I loved the questions it raised, and while it was a short campaign, it raised a lot of them.
The Architect and his plans appealed somewhat, and he was clearly a powerful person. If the darkspawn have free will, is it okay to just go slaughter them all? If they're just trying to free themselves of the cycle of the Blights, is that any different from any other rebellion ever? Okay, yeah, the Mother was just evil-crazy, but it wasn't her fault. It wasn't really anyone's fault. The Architect didn't know that would happen, just like he didn't know Urthemiel would go insane when he awoke it.
So I have to agree that if they handle the story and characters (especially the villains) as well as they should, DA3 will keep me engaged.
Yeah, I was actually quite surprised by Awakening, I think I may have liked it as much as Origins (if only Morrigan had been in it :C ). Without spoiling anything, my first play through of it was done with a... not evil, but morally questionable kind of guy, and when I took what I thought was the appropriate choices for him I think I actually ended up taking the "good" route, which was kinda cool. Accidentally heroic is a fun surprise in any game.
Well one of the major shit parts of Dragon age 2 (Besides pretty much everything) was that it was a sequel to Origins.
so now that Dragon age 3 is a sequel to my worst game of last year my expectation is that instead of being a turd like DA2 instead it will be a turd with a sprinkling of cinnamon to mask the smell of a dead series

That's awesome. I actually had to sit and think about my choice for a while. I played with a generally good character who makes fun of everything, but who took her commitment to the Grey Wardens really seriously underneath. So I had to sit and think about her choice for a while. It was a hard choice to make for her character.
Let's just watch them fuck up from a distance, behind sandbags. Atleast I am, because I think it'll be shit like its predecesor.
And if it is good, not only will I be insanely suprised, but I might actually consider it better than Origins - ya' know, the good one out of the two stupid twins.
I will be waiting for some gameplay images to get a real idea of how bad this game is going to be. If I start seeing Diablo 3 style skill tree's. Massive blood splatter(anime style), over the top heavy swords Final fantasy hair cuts and you can only play a human and hold your hand tutorials for the entire game.
Ill be buying this at bargain prices regardless, they dont deserve the chance for top dollar.
Expectations? What expectations. EA has ensured that Bioware is now properly collared on a choke-chain so they'll spew out mediocre piles of goo for the consumption of the average console fuckwit with the depth of a muddy puddle. It'll be perfectly meh in order to not scare off the unwashed masses. You know, like they've done with DA2, ME2, ME3 and so on.
Agreed, with the reservation that I don't care if EA is the cause of it. Who cares about Bioware games anymore? You're only setting yourself up for disappointment. Mass Effect and Dragon Age were flawed but solid titles with a lot of promise, and it's a real crime that Bioware never released anything worthy of them again, much less expanded on their successes. I don't know why Dragon Age II and Mass Effect III were so shocking to people. If you saw as much as the opening to Mass Effect II you should have realized Bioware was now in the business of making retarded action games for idiots. I'm not saying you're an idiot for thinking it was good, I'm just saying if you're not an idiot you are not the target audience.
