Of coarse not, but I wouldn't say Mass Effect is anywhere near as cliche as Dragon Age.
It is.
Opinion dude, opinion. Not everything has a yes or no answer.

[small/]...no it isn't [/small]

I have already stated the reason why I don't believe Mass Effect is anywhere near as cliche, but here's a rough idea.

Thats five different IPs right there. Unbelievable isn't it? If I had the time or the energy I'd find more, but I hope that get's my point across. Or do you want me to do one with elves too?

Oh I'm sorry I didn't realise I had to preface every statement with a pointless phrase designating it as an opinion so that posts can be read by the braindead.

And? DA is very generic I never said otherwise. But Mass Effect isn't any less generic, like I said it merely draws ao cliches that aren't as popular in modern media.

The side quests felt like a chore on ME. The textures were horrible, the squad control was terrible and it was for too easy (on everything except the hardest setting).

I don't get everyone complaining about the difficulty on DA:O. I've just finished my first play through. I played on hard (I was turned off by the no friendly fire on normal), I didn't power game or build the "ultimate" rogue as first play throughs are about taking it all in. I will try that on a later play through.

It was challenging (I had to come back later for the Revenants) but at no point did I hit a brick wall. Even on the last battle which was intense. I think younger gamers have been spoiled, they never had to muscle through hard games like contra, Mega man, Rtype and bionic commando.

Im not saying we should go back to the days of no check points and brickwall learning curves, it doesn't really help story telling, but DA:O is no where near difficult.

I enjoyed both titles but Id give the edge to DA:O, there is more story, you actually want to complete the side quests, exploring is a joy rather than the painful experience from ME. Also ME is quite a short game. Finally there are no lifts in DA:O

In MEs favour Shepherd is a great charecter and I cant wait to see Shepherd lose it with the new interupt options coming in ME2.

Now can we get a new KOTOR please?

I have both actually. Mass Effect for my 360 and Dragon Age: Origins for my PC. Soon I will own Mass Effect 2 as well.

You could do that with space marines, lizard like aliens, robot soldiers etc.

I love ME but you cant argue it is original, its just well done. The same as DA. DA has the edge for me as it is executed better, as Im sure ME2 will be even better than DA:O.

I have to go with Mass Effect because it had an ending that was less rushed and better characters. Dragon has the better character creation and a slightly better combat system, but I finished it within a week, side quests and all. Mass Effect took me longer and seemed a little bit more interesting.

EDIT: I have played games like DA:O before and that may be why it took less time than Mass Effect, because I knew what I was doing and what was going to happen. I like both games allot but I just like Mass Effect more...it was something rather new for me, I hadn't played Sci-fi games before that.

Dragon Age. Could be more open, but this game is incredible, the sheer scope of what can be done and said, and the multiple different endings in every scenario are what makes this game superb.

I also love Mass Effect, but I wasn't a great fan of the combat and the driving, though the dialogue was very well done.

Where's the option for "I'm a BioWare Fanboy, screw Bestheda, and I'll happily play Both!"?

The driving was extremely bad at first, it took some getting used to. I did like the dialogue more in Mass Effect, one reason being that your character had a real voice and lines. I think the characters in ME had and have more potental than those of DA:O just becuase they seemed slightly more thought out.

I enjoyed Mass Effect's story and game play more. I also think that it was clearly graphically superior (I played the 360 versions).

Dragonage is a fun game, but I thought it was inferior in every way to Mass Effect.

Getting the nemesis to shoot himself in the head... priceless.

I prefer Mass Effect.
Dragon Age is great, and I loved it, but it didn't really make me want to replay it so fast and the combat wasn't really my style.
Mass Effect had everything I liked about games and it pulled off almost everything flawlessly (in my opinion).

Both are amazing, epic and fun as hell.

Both are in my top 10 of best games ever, but Mass Effect is in the first place.

I wasn't attached to the Warden like I was attached to Shepard. Perhaps it was because of the lack of voiced dialogue, I don't know. I regarded Shepard as my brother, my protege. I sure as hell won't let him die in ME2.

Also, being a fan of shooters, I liked the combat in Mass Effect a lot more.

I say Mass Effect but only because I haven't gotten a chance to play Dragon Age yet

I was just pondering to myself, which game would the escapist forum prefer out of these two.

I have heard that Dragon Age is preferred now by many gamers. But, I still think, since it was one of the first games available on the 360, Mass Effect deserves a higher score.

8/10

Mass Effect /deserves/ a higher score because it was one of the first games out on the 360? That makes no sense.

I would have to give my vote to Dragon Age. At least the side quests in DA were interesting while the side quests in Mass Effect were all about visiting "different" planets in a glorified treasure hunt. Never mind that the Mass Effect version of dungeons was the same facility without even so much as a reskin to make it slightly more interesting.

Mass Effect had a good, short story and will be successful as the trilogy gets fleshed out but Dragon Age is infinitely deeper. Also keep in mind that the PC version of DA consistently gets rated higher than its console ports.

It's a tough choice for me and I haven't really liked futuristic RPG's so much(I have played KoToR in the past as well).

If I have to choose between those two I would pick Dragon Age:Origins because it gives me nostalgia every time I play it,as if it has everything that I dreamed of having in a RPG.

I can say it is best RPG I have played since BG2
