Elder Scrolls, the world actually feels big, and you can explore it. DA:O feels way to linar for my RPG tastes, I like the world to feel big, and the characters in Elder Scrolls are fun, especially Sheogorath :D

Well out of Oblivion, DA: O, and DA2, I vote Dragon Age: Origins without having to think about it.

Morrowind is much better than all of them though.

To be honest it really matters how much RPG you really want. DAO is RPG to the extent of scare-dom. Oblivion is RPGFPS-3PS to me.

Dragon Age do some things better than Elder Scrolls, but Elder Scrolls do more things than any other game.

With Dragon Age you can expect the usual Bioware traits, like a good story and cinematic presentation of very well done dialogues with npcs like in Mass Effect.

With Oblivion you can expect the usual Bethesda traits, like playing one of the largest games out there,a game that you will be playing for months always having something new to do.

If you want a medium sized cinematic experience go for Dragon Age,but if you want a really huge game that will keep you busy multiple times the time you would spend for any other game,go for Oblivion.

Personaly I would suggest you to play both starting with DA:O and then playing Oblivion.
It's important to play an Elder Scrolls game last, because it will take you most of the time, and after you finish with it you will have a strange feeling when playing other games, that they are very short.
I was an FPS fanatic before playing Oblivion, and I decided to play it without much thought, but after playing it,it made me feel that FPS games where ridiculously short and spolied all the fun I would get from an FPS's single player mode,'cause after Oblivion FPSs and other short games felt like large demos instead of full games.
Proceed at your own risk.

I don't think it matters.. At least not to me. They're all really good games in my opinion. I think Dragon Age's story and characters are more interesting. But I also feel that Elder Scroll's character options are more in depth, detailed, and overall better. Does it really matter which one is 'better'? Just sit back and play em all is my philosophy..

Its kinda like the difference between watching a movie and playing DnD. One is entertaining and full of attractive people, but in the other you are given the freedom to do almost anything and then use that freedom just to see how much ridiculousness you can get away with. Oh, and the people are... not as attractive.

If you're wanting to play as a mage, then I've gotta give it to DA:O. Magic in Oblivion never really felt that awesome, sadly. Otherwise, it's a toss up.

Dragon Age: Origin is way more immersive for me. Gameplay is better as well, combat can be pretty repetitive and stiff in Elder Scrolls, especially in Morrowind, mostly whack whack with a sword or spam spam with a fireball. Also, Elder Scrolls feels so lonely after playing Dragon Age. There are a lot of people with a lot of names sure, but they are just scenery, not actual characters like in Dragon Age. Buying houses in every city and then having no one to invite over for supper is a bit depressing.

Still love Elder Scrolls, but Dragon Age is my favorite.

Why choose? Get both. You might as well ask us to choose between red & yellow potatoes.

Elder Scrolls hands down everytime.

I really do enjoy the Dragon Age games don't get me wrong but the sheer size and things you can do in Bathesda games is unreal.

Well, mainly on the PC because we have mods.

You can do anything you want.

There is even a total conversion mod for Oblivion that turns it into a different game. People put a hell of a lot of effort into that mod and it is fantastic. So when you get bored of Oblivion you can install that and it's a new game.

Even little mods give you new armour, more weapons, better player housing, more companions and some have brand new quest hubs.

You can get hundreds of hours out of the likes of Oblivion and Morrowind that you just can't get in Dragon Age.

If you're getting them on a console, forget anything I said above, you get no mods. I still think you'll get more out of Oblivion on the console but Dragon Age has more story.

Your choice really.

If it's for the PC i'd definitely go for Oblivion, play through without mods then add them. Better experience that way. While on console i'd probably still say Oblivion just for the freedom but it's not as good (for me at least) when you can't tweak bits.

Elder Scrolls for sure. It may be a bug-ridden series of games but it is such a brilliant series of games.

What Dragon Age has over Elder Scrolls is brilliant character development.

TES is a far more open-ended/emergent game while DA is scripted and story driven. It's like trying to compare Grand Theft Auto to Driver.

It all depends on how much one likes DA's writers, which, after DA2, they can all fall down a well.

The Elder Scrolls have always left me cold, Oblivion especially. Which is weird because I found Fallout 3 a real blast (Not a proper Fallout game but good anyway). I quite like Origins as it does harken back to Baldur's Gate even if never reaches the same heights.

My recommendations? Alpha Protocol or Witcher 1 and 2.
