Now I know there are ALOT of threads about this game. (Trust me, I searched.)

But none answered the question of "Would I, myself would like this?" My brother got it for christmas for Xbox 360 (and not PC.) And I'm puzzled if I should play it.

Now the games that are similar I think, that I've played are;
TES IV: Oblivion and Fallout 3. (Yes Fallout 3 is, in terms of the RP elements, it's similar except the whole "Apocalyspe" thing.)

But recently I played Risen and didn't like it. One. Bit. So will you intelligent people answer this question?

Well since someone in your house already has it, ask them if you can try it out so you can decide if you like it.

Don't get it, it's the worst game ever.

^ If someone says that to you, don't listen. They are part of a very small demographic.

Get it.

Yay! Only for PC though. I played it on Xbox too and didn't like the control scheme as much as I like it on the computer.

If you have nothing else to buy, then yay.
It is good, but there are many games that are better.

Watch him play it and ask to try it. Combat isn't that good, but I like everything else about it.

You might like it, but I just can't enjoy any game that uses the "click on monster, watch avatar kick its shins till it dies" combat system.

Best game of the year and best RPG of the decade imo. It's worth the box price for the banter between party members alone;

* Zevran: Might I offer you a bit of advice, my good friend Alistair?
* Alistair: I like my hair the way it is, thank you.
* Zevran: Truly? As you wish... though my advice is regarding something else completely. It has to do with your recent... exertions with your fellow Grey Warden that I overheard.
* Alistair: My...? Oh.
* Zevran: It did seem as if you just got going when all grew quiet. You are... feeling all right, yes? Perhaps you are tired?
* Alistair: We aren't talking about this, are we? Did I hit my head?
* Zevran: I have some roots from home that you may chew if you need energy. As for volume, perhaps you ought to try arching your--
* Alistair: Whoa! Whoa! Awkward!
* Zevran: You Fereldans are so finicky. How will you ever learn how to pleasure each other unless you talk about it?
* Alistair: Not listening! La la la la la!

* Zevran: You know, I have heard stories about your Circle of the Magi, my dear Wynne.
* Wynne: Is that so.
* Zevran: There is a Circle in my country, of course, but perhaps things are different here.
* Zevran: I visited the Antivan Circle on official Crow business, once. Met a beautiful young apprentice who was very eager for a taste of the outside world...
* Wynne: Please! Please, get to the point.
* Zevran: All I wonder is whether the templars guard the mages here as closely as they do in Antiva.
* Zevran: In Antiva, the templars watch the Circle like a jealous husband guarding the chastity of a wanton bride.
* Wynne: Interesting metaphor, but yes, it is not too different in Ferelden.
* Zevran: And is it also true that when the moon swells to fullness, the mages of the Circle gather at the top floor of their tower and, naked under the stars, make love to each other?
* Wynne: What? No! Maker's breath...
* Zevran: Oh. I found out recently that it was not true in Antiva and hoped that it would be in Ferelden. Alas.

It's pretty much exactly the same as Neverwinter Nights IMO. I really liked that, it's my favourite RPG of all time. I've only just started playing DA:O but I think I will like it.

It really is nothing like Oblivion in terms of gameplay though, no 1st person mode, it's played from a camera angle quite far back from your character(s) and you click on an enemy once to target it and the rest is done by the computer although you can select different types of attacks and such. You click on the screen to tell your dude where to go and what to pick up. It is effectively turn based combat although you don't notice the turns and it runs through them automatically.

Fantastic game. Ive wasted so much of my life on that game, and am still doing so. Great game.

DA:O - Yay.
