While we're on the topic of driving, insurance rates, etc. I'd like to make a point I've been thinking about... It's no secret that young drivers have to pay a ridiculous amount in insurance and some say it's a good thing because it keeps us from being reckless but I don't think that's a valid point. I say that making us pay huge insurance fees just means that we are forced to drive cars that are barely even road worthy which put us and everyone around us in even more danger than if we could buy a decent car without having to pay a shit load in insurance fees.

Maybe I'm the only one who thinks that but I just wanted to express my opinion.

This rule would be retarded. Actually, I take that back as it is an insult to the mentally disabled. This rule would be something so far beyond retarded it's not even comparable.

Yeah if only there were some sort of test for cars to determine if they are safe to be driven on the road...

Wind it up with the insurance issues folks some of us have been there and had to suffer I had to pay £500 3rd party fire and theft on my first car, an E reg Rover Metero. 9 years and no claims I now get to insure my R32 fully comp for just under £400.

To be honest I don't think the insurance firms are harsh enough with young drivers. You have people who are the primary driver of the vehicle driving about in high powered ricer mobiles that are actually insured under their parents name with them as a second driver. I don't care about the issue of them driving it but if they crash in to me and their insurance refuses to pay because they lied... well then we got a very big fucking problem.

As for the topic at hand, no don't enforce a curfew on drivers. They have to learn after all and they will only do that by.. well doing. They should however be harsh with drivers that they find dicking about. The British system is pretty good, 2 years after you pass you can only get 6 points instead of 12 before you get banned and drink driving of any kind should gain you an instant ban in that time period.

I don't live in Ireland, but that's complete and total BS. I'll be 20 in 3 weeks, and most nights I don't even get off work until 10:15 at the earliest. So I'm supposed to be penalized for having a job? Would the government pay me a salary since they are prohibiting me from working? Or should I just quit my easy, well paying job and start the arduous hunt for a lower paying job all over again, because everyone is totally clamoring to have more people on payrole during a recession.

frankly i think that any curfew in a european country would start a disgusting trend, slowly taking away our basic rights until we live in totalitarian states, i thought that democracy meant that the people had somewhat of a choice in matters like this.

I am sorry but your pathetic plea about how unsafe the cars you are forced to drive around in seems to be designed as some sort of attempt at garnering sympathy. Which is total bullshit.

For the price I paid to buy and insure my first car, a car that had the occupancy safety of a wet paper bag you could buy yourself a used 4 star NCap rated 2000 Renault Clio and insure it third party. According to your post by all rights I should have been killed and taken seven people with me because I had no choice but to buy the car I could afford to own and insure at the time.

Somehow though I managed not to kill myself and a busstop worth of people. How did I manage that? Because I drove safely, I didn't have any accidents, for the price I paid for my second car a less shit N Plate Vauxhall Corsa you can buy a 2002 4 Star Rated Vauxhall Corsa and insure it for less and shockingly I didn't crash that or kill anyone else and the big win from driving carefully, from having to drive shit cars that I could only afford at the time and from building up my no claims is for half the price it costs you to insure a shit box 2000 1.0L Renault I get to charge around in a 3.0L Turbo Charged 08 Plate VW.

So no I don't feel sorry for you, been there and had it a hell of a lot worse.
