I usually find that dubbed movies come across looking and sounding just plain off, with voices distinctly not matching mouth movements. As well I can read fast enough that subtitles will never bother me, and usually after 1/2 an hour I can transcend the language barrier and start "hearing" the movie in English... it's an illusion, but a nice one.
In films, always subtitles.
It kep the mood of a film going much better having someone's voice sync up with their lips. Sometimes the Dub voice actors aren't marvellous either.
For animations it's less vital, although I prefer watching foreign cartoons in their native language, the voices tend to fit characters better.

Subbed, cos dubbing actors are sub-par, and they mess around with the translation more in a desperete attempt to get the sounds to fit the mouths.
Subtitles all the way.
It's always best to hear the original inflections and and expressiveness of the actors and actresses.
The only movie I've seen where the dubbing is actually really good, is 'Brotherhood of the Wolf'. Best dubbing I've seen.

I don't know whether this applies to films, but being a giant anime nerd, I've been subjected to some pretty horrible dubs in my time.
I put this down to the idea that actors feel that doing dubs is what you do when you can't get a proper acting job, with the result being half-hearted dubs done by people who can't get a proper acting job.

To be honest I'll doubt you'll get many going for dubbed. For animation it's not nearly as important whether or not it's dubbed, it just depends on the quality of the voice actors Though the only annoying thing about some subtitles can be if the translation is really poor, meaning some of the dialogue makes no sense.
a resounding 100% towards subtitles. Dubbed movies look stupid, except for the greatest dubbed movie of ALL TIME:

98% of the time, subtitles. There was this one movie, Ice Age, which I thaught was way better in norweigan than english. Sometimes I choose Norwegian on cartoons and CGI movies, because Im seeing them with someone else that aren't that good in understanding english. But if not I see them in the original language. Im especially picky with this for japanese animes. God I hated to see harry potter and shrek in norweigan btw.
Definitely subtitles, with two exceptions: Kung Fu movies, and Giant Monster movies.

Key term is hilariously bad. There's awful (bad dub) then there's awfully funny ("bad" dub). So there.rottenbutter said:
The reason why these actors and actresses get cast for the film is because of their acting skills and their ability to express themselves. Their voices are part of this skill. When you dub a film the voice actor, without being on the set and without seeing how the film is like or simply because they are bad actors. The mood of the film is ruined and the voices are just so far off from the actors
I prefer Dubbed they usually have an option for captions but I don't mind Movies in Subtitles if it's an artistic choice or if the movie is currently only in the original language like Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon or House of Flying Daggers Etc. were at first.
