Everyone hated elevators; now we want them back. Personally, I liked them in ME1 due to the squad banter. Loading screens are so generic.

It's a nice view, and a conversation, or staring at a dull loading screen. What do you think?
I think the reason people hated elevators was they didn't realize it was that or loading screens.

I missed the elevators in ME2 and those new load screens were insane! It also made all the areas feel like one complete area.

So yes, put them back. Speed them up a little. And put the same music tracks from ME1's Citadel elevators in every one in the game but louder, they were too low the last time. Maybe put in the option to add your own too, imagine the Imperial March in every elevator...

Maybe it's because you all had older computers back when you were playing ME than now that you're playing ME2, that you've had a different experience with the elevators and load times. For me, the Normandy elevator is probably twice as fast as the screens. And why can't I go on the Normandy when it's docked without taking off? More importantly, elevators and scans made seemless transitions between areas, keeping you in the experience. Also your squad interacted with eachother in it the elevators, unlike in ME2 when they don't even recognize eachother's existence. Skippable elevator rides and squad interaction (dragon age did this very nicely) in ME3!

Did people really complain about the elevators? Wait - before you say it - I know people complain about everything, but a large enough percentage of people to really matter is what I'm asking. I never understood why they axed it.

My reason for liking it better than load screens. Elevator rides are more fun to look at, I can play the "how many floors up is it to get to the Citadel tower" game, there were fun little dialogue snippets, and because I have to squint to read the goddamn Mass Effect 2 text in the loading screens (actually, I have to do that for the text in general. Freaking unnecessary HD pushing bullies...)

I prefer elevators, because it shows you Shepard's epic voyage from one floor to the other.
I had a good laugh at that :p

I vote for no elevators! Let us have mini-games like in Mario Party! (Mass Effect "Running of the Bulb" anyone?)

Hell no, I vote for loading screens with little minigames or maybe some videos of Mass Effect universe pop culture, that would be pretty cool.

I don't want it, to be honest. I just don't understand how the elevators in a time where technology is so great can be so slow. Plus, it's boring. Sure, your companions have a little banter from time to time, there are also news reports, but these only last for a while. You can't even move.

Not that loading screens are much better.
I say bring back the elevators, but have there be elevator music, ads for movies, products, TV shows, porn, and also some news stories play during the ride.

The loading screens completely broke the feeling of immersion for me. Even though the loading screens didn't take long on my PC (5 seconds at most), they were jarring.

Party banter, advertisements, news reports, or even Normandy status report of the ship or personnel would be better.

I say replace elevators with teeny Mass Relays that you can run along and get launched from 1 place to another.

Could be fun, even if getting launched at FTL speeds might break your neck or cause you to vomit immensely afterward.

The best idea I have heard of from Mass Effect 2's own forums is this:

You have two options (which the OP has suggested in his poll), have a loading screen or have an elevator. The reality is you need something to look at, you can't have instant loads. The problem some people had with the elevators before wasn't the fact you were in an elevator but the fact that it took too long. What you may not have known about that is it took long because you were loading the next area, not because the developers liked long elevator rides.

The best solution I have heard so far is to bring the role-play ability of elevator rides back but make is to when the area is loaded allow the user to press a button to "skip" the rest of the elevator screen if he wanted to opt-out of the role-play experience of actually seeing the elevator arrive and the doors open etc.

That way you don't have loading screens, you have elevators back and the time spent in the elevator are only as long as the load time.

I'm fine with elevators so long as they liven them up with news stories or conversation. They also help make the citadel a more impressive place. Primarily, it annoyed me that you couldn't go to the presidium in ME2. The lack of the presidium made the citadel feel smaller than it is.

Regarding how long the elevators take, keep in mind the enormous distance they are actually traveling. That itself helps to make the citadel more impressive.

I like the elevators a lot more. The Normandy could have loading screens, though. The advantage of the elevators in my opinion is the banter between my squad mates while the game loads. There's also the news reports (which my squad can comment on) or ads (ditto). It can be entertaining, and I can always spin the camera around and in some areas there's some amount of scenery moving past. The problem with the loading screen is that it's just a dull animation used for nearly every load, with the animation changing depending on what is loading and where you came from. There's no banter and no scenery.

Of course, on the Normandy you don't have a squad with you, so there's no reason for not having a load screen.

I strongly preferred the elevators to the loading screen, made the game more immersive, the radio spots were also nice.

I also liked the mako more than planet-scanning but heh...
