Wait wait wait wait wait...

... We (USA) have a soccer (football, whatever!) team?
Where do you think the NFL gets all of their punters and place kickers?

England losing to the US in football would be like the US losing to England in basketball or baseball. It should never happen.

If it's a thread about who will win, then my money is on England. They have tons of pro soccer players and there is no way USA can win.

I'm pretty sure Capello isn't the highest paid manager in the world...but I'm not sure, I hate footballers/football managers and the obscene amount of money they make so I tend to ignore that. But that is for another rant/thread.

Back to the topic at hand, I think England will win by 2 goals. The Americans aren't as bad as I thought they were but they aren't really that brilliant. They're a good mid-ranked team, really. I do think they'll get through the group, though along with England. And I think of America beats England, we will not hear the end of it. Ever.

And England will win the World Cup.
Provided we don't get unstuck in the Quarters and it goes to a penalty shoot out again...If any one from the England team/staff is reading this (Very unlikely but still) I have some advice for you.

[HEADING=1]PRACTICE PENALTIES, DAMMIT![/HEADING]
Yes or the Portugal goalkeeper might knock them out again in a penalty kickoff :)

I'm an American into soccer/football, but not into the world cup, so either way, go USA.

Well if you think they didn't we certainly created the first officially recognised football league. See my city's team Sheffield FC. I reckon a slim victory for England, America are decent because out of the 307,006,550 people that live in the USA at least 11 must be good at football.
I do not think England will do well throughout the world cup since our team is inexperienced and we are fielding such players as Heskey o.0 despite the efforts of crouch and Rooney we will probably have better chance in the euros.

To answer the questions in order:

England
We have a soccer team?
No.

I think Italy or Argentina are going to win.

U.S. versus England breakdown: American Sports Journalist Perspective

Forwards
Landon Donovan (TC), Jozy Altidore, Herculez Gomez vs.
Wayne Rooney (TC), Peter Crouch, Jermain Defoe

Midfielders
Clint Dempsey, Maurice Edu, Michael Bradley, DeMarcus Beasley vs.
Michael Carrick, Frank Lampard, Shaun Wright-Phillips, Gareth Barry

Defenders
Oguchi Onyewu, Carlos Bocanegra, Steve Churnedolo, Jay Demerit vs.
Glen Johnson, John Terry, Matthew Upson, Stephen Warnock

Keepers
Tim Howard vs.
David James

Forwards: Advantage: England
There is no denying that Rooney and Crouch are two of the best forwards in the world today, and with Altidore and Gomez recovering from injuries, the front line is a wash.

Midfielders: Advantage: U.S.A.
The sheer athletic prowess of Beasley and Edu, and the vast World Cup experience of Dempsey gives the U.S. an advantage here, but Carrick and Lampard have proven to be capable defending MFs, limiting goal chances.

Defenders: Advantage: England
The United States World Cup hopes ride on the surgically repaired knee of Oguchi Onyewu, and if he can't hold up to 90+ minutes of time on the field, the bench for the United States behind him is thin. The British defense is young, but talented.

Keepers: Advantage: U.S.A.
While James is a wily, experienced veteran with many World Cup matches and friendlys under his belt, his age has slowed him down, and he can give up crossing goals easily. Howard is a strong keeper, with a large build, but he tries to do too much, and can get juked out of position. But Howard is the younger, more athletic keeper.

Final Score: 3-2 England.
Prediction: England finishes the pool 3-0-0. United States advances as well at 2-1-0. England makes it to the finals, and is beaten by Italy. United States is dispatched by Germany in the Round of 16.
I completely disagree. Michael Carrick isn't even in the starting lineup so I don't see how he gets a mention here. Frank Lampard and Steven Gerrard are two of the best midfielders in the world at the moment, and I don't think experience matters more than ability.
I don't want to seem callous or anything, but I think England should have the advantage in midfield.

Yes, you're right. They changed an old old game into what is now recognised as football. But apparently, a group in asia were the first.

The US team lost to some nobody team that didn't even get into the World Cup a few weeks ago, and as strong as the team is it's also very young. Looks like they will lose early to me, and losing to England is good enough for me, I think that honestly the US team will be more of a threat next world cup then they are in this one.

I live in Nottingham which has the world's oldest football team (Notts County) which I'm proud of. And yes, England did invent football as we see it today. You could also say Americans didn't invent basketball, the Chinese did. But we don't say that because Basketball as we know about it is completely American.

I think the only none European teams to look out for are Argentina and Brazil. I suppose the Ivory Coast have a chance with the abilities of Drogba and Kalou. (Yes I am an avid Chelsea fan xD)

America qualified?!
Great Scott, that's amazing! Seriously, I'm sorry, but England, hands down, have this one. It wasn't long ago that I didn't know America played football. Now, this isn't meant to be an insult, I love your takes on hurling and rugby (Yeah, I went there), but England just will win.
(I want a rugby match with Munster in it to be on now. Even just Ireland, any team. When's the Heineken Cup again?)
Anyway, if I say any more, I'll just end up being more of an asshole than previously thought possible, so end post...
Now.
Edit: Yeah, I'm from Ireland, but I'm hoping England win after what France did to us. You know what's a strange coincidence? IT'S FUNNY HOW FIFA ARE BASED IN FRANCE, EH?
Win it for us.
[small]you owe us that much, right?[/small]

Don't you dare suggest rugby and handegg are even close to each other. Anyway, USA have got a better football team now a days, but their still not great, but they do now have some good individual players, and i don't know how well they play as a team.

I think the team that actually calls football 'football' will win. Bloody Americans, the rest of the world calls it football, why do you have to be different?

[sub]That was a joke by the way, not a rant.[/sub]
We didn't think regretting the metric system was enough. We had to give the UK another slap in the face.

OT: I should have voted I don't watch football, but I just voted USA, since I am American. Sorry!

BTW, I think it should be called Football too, and American Football should be called The Gauntlet of Meat
