"He's a witch... uh, I mean SJW! Burn him!"
Do SJWs weigh the same as a duck?
I'm not sure, but one definitely once turned me into a newt.

OT: I'm pretty sure the "gate" suffix is no longer a reference to Watergate, but is now an idea of its own.

I would go with Gamer-Lewinski, myself. Or Gamer-wiener. Seems applicable to around 90% of the controversies that strike this community. :p

[sub]Hur, hur, american politics jokes. Bet everyone outside of american isn't tired of hearing them, yet. ;D[/sub]

"GamerPeopleAreTooDamnStubbornToEvenConsiderBothSides?" "GamerWhatTheHellHappenedToPoliteDiscourse?" "GamerHolyShitPeopleAreAssholesOnTwitter?"

...Eh, those don't exactly roll off the tongue.

How about "GamerHate?" There's so much of it going around on both sides, and it rhymes with the original.

I reckon the nazis on trial is about on as equal a footing as some scandal over vidya garmes, for sure.
Oh hai, Godwin. So, how's your sex life?

Uh... Gamemagenda?
Gamemageddon?
Gamebie Invasion?

How about Gamer Gen X vs Gamer Gen Y vs Gamer Gen Z? Oh wait... That's the title [textual] fight sponsored by Gamer Agenda Q, which they only use the "Gamer" part of the title as some kind of rhetorical irony in relation to the "Agenda" part of said title...

Yeah... I don't fucking know... Agendas on a Gamer Plane??

Too much like Hathahate, the vitriolic hatred of Anne Hathaway for no reason you are able to explain. Happens alot with female celebs but I think only she gets the catchy name. Ellen Page hate or Kristen Stewart hate or Britney Spears hate...just doesn't flow as well.

Hmmm. Could we just call each one "Excuse to be horrible to people using the internet #_" in the future? That way it'll be easier for future generations to put each one of these in chronological order.

Man, I had enough with the -Gate nonsense back when we had GatesGate. It was just painful to hear people talk about GatesGate with a straight face.

So, I guess that makes me a hipster or something, now.

Also, how about Blank Nonsense? Sense most often it really is nonsense.

I kind of like "Gamer-Pelosi". Sounds sort of like "Gamerpalooza" but much worse...

Dont care about the stupid scandals but this guy, he was awesome in a sad kind of way. Almost as hilarious as that guy from New York that closed a bridge because and caused traffic chaos for the area of another politician that wouldn't support him (although I guess the Canadian guy got more to eat at home right?), why cant gaming have scandals like those guys?

Yes, they do. The reason is, they are ducks. That's why you can't see them IRL but only on the Internet - that's how they hide their true identity.
Kind of like how fake gamer girls are actually organised ferrets?

"-gate" has become a term for scandal, but I can agree with people who find it stupid.

Unfortunately, "Gamernonsense" isn't very specific.

The logical part of me says _Pelosi because there's a sex scandal involved in some way or something.

The sillier part of me says _Sorry, What? Because as much as I have tried to read up on it it still makes little sense. It just seems to be something vague and no one really knows what's happening but they're all jolly cross about it. And then because they don't know they throw something in that they know they're mad about and know why, so then that becomes a whole part of it and to be honest I've just spent the whole time trying to ignore it and remembering that I am into video games to play the blighters then go and do just that.

This is the first thread that I've posted on about it because A) Thank buggery for something light-hearted and B) because I can actually understand what people are talking about in this one. That probably makes me sound like a dullard, but oh well.

Isn't gate more of a reference to the journalist investigator, their prowess and skills and that no one else could have found out what Reegan was up to except them.

Kind of saddened that there's no option for "Aw, shit. Another goddamn hot-button issue."

'Cause that's what I'd call them all.

Realistically, though, I'd vote for something more constructive. Like, say, naming these things for what they actually do involve. "The Zoe Quinn Scandal" feels a little less sensationalistic than "GamerGate".

Watergate was named for the complex. Its use as a scandal suffix, far as I'm aware simply refers to one of the biggest US political scandal. The fact that it's thrown around so haphazardly is evidence that any meaning it might have had is significantly degraded.
