The emulator itself is legal, games if you own them arn't to much of a problem, however the bios is 100% illegal to have with the emulator. Then again I doubt anybody would mind, they don't even make ps1 anymore do they?

You can run the game off the original game disc on the ePSXe Emulator

Also emulators them selves are legal, its the BIOS images, Rom images and ISO files which are in question?

How do you think the Wii Virtual console work? emulators.
The same goes for alot of ports of classical games on modern systems.

Any ways don't the PS2 and PS3 support original PSX games?

There are legal emulators. Its the games that are illegal. If you already own the games, you're perfectly fine, have fun and put this all behind you.

The great thing about this emulator is that you can use the actual game CDs on your computer. I would be using it now (with the actual game CDs, not roms), but my CD-drive is busted.

ePSXe is a very good emulator and is easy to setup. It appears to be complicated if you do not understand why plugins are needed.
There are many tutorial videos on YouTube that explain the setup.

I have used this emulator on a P4 and low end Celeron computers - it gives very good results.
If you are willing to take the time to figure out what plugins work with what game - ePSXe can a be a pleasure to use.
It is unfortunate that development of the emulator has stopped because the source code is lost.

I suspect that game developers and publishers will be more vigilant in prosecuting people who violate games copyright because there are considerable amounts of monies to be made from old games. Take a look at Xbox Live marketplace - many old games there for sale.
The moral question of whether we should be allowed to use old games on emulators, this can be regarded as a redundant question because at any time - the copyright owner can decide to make use of that Intellectual property. At least this is what copyright owners would claim.

If we get into discussions about whether it is morally right for us to use emulators with games we do not own - I suspect this thread will be closed because we would be debating laws that are fundamental to the entertainment industry and such discussions are usually frowned upon in forums of this nature.

I do beleive if you payed for a PSX, you can have the emulator work. Bios and all. The games are fine as long as it's your copy. Now if you distribute, there could be some issues most likely, but I don't see anything moraly or legaly wrong.

This is a stupid topic.

It doesn't matter if you THINK something is illegal, its illegal, end of.

Yes, emulators are illegal.
You obviously haven't read the terms and conditions when you download an emulator. Its legal if you own the console being emulated. I own a ps1, it doesn't work anymore, but i bought one. I own three games in particular, FF7, Warhawk, and FFT, and its totally legal for me to play them on my computer via emulator. Ask Sony.
