Hell no. Exclusives are what give consoles diversity.
I think exclusives should stay.

I also noticed you said nothing about the Wii and its exclusives...
I don't count the wii as a console. Since this is a post about gaming consoles rather than a hyper advanced baby's rattle it has no place in this post.
You just sound like a fan boy to me.
Play Monster Hunter Tri, exclusive to the Wii, then tell me it's for babies.
Ah I should have said something about Tri. Slipped my mind for a second XD

You also forgot to mention Twilight Princess, No More Heroes and No More Heroes 2.
See above post for all "hardcore" games I could think of off the top of my head.

I'm sure there's more.

Those too :D
The Wii is great console if the right people develop for it. MH tri is just one of those games, the graphics are amazing (for the Wii) and the gameplay and character animation are spot on. I'll forgive mediocre graphics if the characters move the way they should, which in Monster Hunter, they do.

Not at all. And no, OP, I'm not employed by any companies. Exclusivity is absolutely required for any competition in the gaming industry to exist. To say otherwise is a display of selfish ignorance.

if its just for release then ported later no.
but never ported exclusives are terrable, as all should get a chance to play them.
e.g. ps3 owners really should get to play ME

they are useful to help push game boundries when focusing on the 1 console.

if ported later it allows competition and allows maximum profit. win win.

Because gamers spend their lives playing with toys, they try so desperately to try and seem like big, mature men that they scream, cry and flail the second they see anything with more then four colours and isn't considered "mature" to try and hide the fact that they're no better then the loser who spends his entire life playing with legos or transformers.
I think the wii is borderline useless, mine's fucked up more then either of the other two and at least I'm still willing to admit it's not only a gaming console but, gasp, it has some decent games.
I'm glad you're at least willing to give the console credit instead of completely bash it. For that I respect you.

Are you telling me Mario isn't hardcore? I say NSMBW is hardcore as well. But I did forget about some of the ones you listed.

We both forgot about Brawl as well.

No, obviously. If all games had to be on all consoles that is more money it takes to make it, more time and it also limits the strengths of the games since it would have to be playable on all consoles as opposed to playing to the strengths and limits of whatever it was designed for.
QFT. There are certain things that the PS3 does better than the Xbox 360, and certain things the Xbox 360 does better than PS3. I've found that PS3 controllers are more suited for fighting games, while Xbox 360 controllers are better with FPS's.

'Course, the PC can play anything you throw at it (assuming you have the correct hardware), so no biggie there.

Well I never played a Wii Mario game so... yeah.

And FUCK! I can't believe I forgot Brawl!

That, and the fact that the Wii has the best backwards compatibility of any game console these days. In the fact that it actually has backwards compatibility.

Sony killed the PS3's backwards compatibility and Microsoft just half-assed it and gave up since 2007...

It's true graphics don't make the game. Gameplay makes the game and developers like CAPCOM and Nintendo deliver top quality stuff on the Wii.

So anyway I was on you tube looking at ace combat 6 and I thought it was awesome. The only reason I don't go out and by it is because it is an xbox exclusive. DAMMIT NOT AGAIN! What is the point of exclusive releases/ all they do is continue the pointless argument over who got the better consule. At the end of the day, weather you play PS3 or 360 or PC, aren't we all gamers? Aren't we in it for the same thing? Why keep some games inaccessible to the rest because they didn't buy the 'right' console? So, should we ban exclusive releases?
You have no idea how business works do you?
Competition = diversity
Competition = competitive prices
Competition = Good for the consumer
Ok hes got me there. I probably should have known that as i am studying business studies at high school.
Mario galaxy, N.S.M.B.W., Metroid Prime 3: Corruption (Greatest game ever made), Zelda twilight princess, Muramasa, DeBlob, No More Heroes, 2, Mario Kart, Wario land: Shake it, Battalion wars 2, Fire Emblem Radiant Dawn, Tatsunoko VS. Capcom, The Conduit, Madworld, Lil' king, big name rail shooters, Monster Hunter, Samurai Cowboy adventure (Red Steel 2), Punch Out, Brawl.
That's just off the top of my head. I'm sure a Nintendo expert can list more.

And the Wii has Virtual Console which lets it play games all the way back from NES giving it a backwards compatibility no other console could hope to compete with.

I'm just amazed you haven't played a Mario game on the Wii. That's so strange I can't even make a proper simile.

Well to be honest I've never been a big fan of Mario :p
I've played a lot of the games, its just... after Sunshine I just, well... kind of gave up on them.

Well, except for Mario Kart, of course.

Hell no, I want games made specifically for the platform I play. I don't want them ported to everywhere and ending up with shabby quality games.

Remove the cross platform exclusive, you know... 360-pc ones and not just pc or 360.

Tatsunoko VS. Capcom is pretty much balanced by marvel vs capcom 3 which won't be on wii with the only differences being character lists

N.S.M.B.W have very little to distinguish it from many other mario games, unlike galaxy which is a very good game.

No More heroes 1&2 aren't exclusives.

The conduit was only considered good because of the wii's limitations, if it had been released on either other console it would have been a pathetic waste of money.

Rail shooters are a step back for 90% of franchises since free movement in 3 dimensions was introduced back in the day.

Wario land: Shake it is a port of the previous warioland gamecube game but with worse controls

Every other console has at least one Monster hunter game(apart from the ps3)

Madworld is a huge quicktime event that has very little going for it aside from fantastic visuals.

That leaves about 10 exclusives that really are worthwhile and you could find at last that many on each of the other consoles since their release

Diversity is not linked to consoles, diversity is linked to developers, console producers try to grab exclusives to make their product more attractive. But that doesnt influence diversity of games at all.

Competitive prices?! In the gaming industry?! I am a gamer since the 80s and am yet to see competitive prices in games, unless by competitive prices you mean everybody practising the same outrageous prices, with exception of PC games because, you know, PC gaming is happily dying since 1985 and need to lower the prices to avoid dying sadly and dramatically.

Good for the consumer, in an extent yes, but not because anything related with business rules but like he says:

Look at something like Bayonetta for example. Sure it was multi platform, but the PS3 version paled next to the 360 version because it was programmed for the 360. When you have one single target console you can potentially have much more focused development.
In gaming you have incompatibility problems that not only prevents you from swaping components from one platform to apply on another but it has implications in the use itself in a much more extended way then any other equipment you might use in your life (from TV to car, to mobile phone, DVD player, etc). Either games are exclusives to one and not compatible at all with others, or their performance is just optimized in one or a few of the platforms.
