Yeah, but it's always an imminent threat. Never something tangible.
I guess what I'm saying is that I want some sort of enemy besides bad luck.

It had a very "Stargate Galactica" feel to it and is definitely darker in premise than the other two, I admit. I'm still on the fence with the whole thing but hopefully the characters will grow on me as the show proceeds.
My thoughts exactly from episode one on. It seems that SyFy fears the post-Battlestar era. I like the course of the new series which has not the theme: "we're the humans of Earth and we kick other's asses no matter which galaxy"...

Stargate SG-1 was fun but not brilliant until season 8 where they finally defeat the Goa'Uld (which should have been the series epic ending) and all of sudden they find an even more evil empire of ex-ascended parked in the next galaxy. Season 9 and 10 are waste of time and space in my humble opinion and without O'Neill (who was the carrier of the show: Mitchell was a weak O'Neill wannabe).

Atlantis had much more promise but in the end felt like a recycled SG-1 program in a different setting. Shame though.

I'm a massive Stargate fan so I was looking foward to this, and so far it falls to "Entertaining, but nothing special" (just like the rest of Stargate). The 3 biggest problems with it so far for me are:

1) Only Rush and Math Boy are close to being likable characters. In the other series there was normally just 1 or 2 characters I didn't like, but in Universe they all get on my nerves. Rush doesn't because I like the character idea of someone who is more intelligent then you and knows it (also, the fact he may have known about the ships power systems was a great twist) and Math Boy seems to be the only one who isn't complaining every 5 minutes. Oh, and can somoene please shoot "Angry Black Soldier"(tm)

2) Everyone seems to have been struck over the head with the stupid bat. I'm hoping this will lessen over time, but at the moment no-one really seems to be thinking and just running around with their heads cut off. If my best mate (who ain't the brightest bulb) can figure out in 10 seconds that maybe the ship is solar powered, surely more then (possibly) 1 person on that ship could.

3) Can't find the funny. The thing I always liked about the Stargate franchise is there was always an under current of humour with the actors never seeming to take it very seriously. Sadly, they seem like they want to copy BSG down the dark, serious, the ship would implode if someone made a joke kind of way.

As much as I love SG1 and even more SGA, so far, I'm not fond of SGU, at all.

Dr Rush's character is quite interesting however, but I can't seem to get hooked up yet :/
Good thing they have some communication devices as it can bring unexpected guests on board, because otherwise, I fear it might be a bit too monotonous & drama for my taste (even though the idea of visiting planet for a limited time ala Sliders seems interesting).

I guess Eli is the new ONeill/McKay/comic element, but I'm not really fond of it so far.

they dident dail earth cause they wanted to try dialing the 9th symbol one more time. and it was the goa'uld that attacked them
+1, and that gate was the only one who could dial the 9th chevron address because it's not really an address, it's a predefined password to Destiny and only that gate can understand the password (in a similar way to the Atlantis gate being the only one capable of dialing Earth, except in Atlantis' case, they can get the crystal out of the DHD to put it in another gate's DHD).

And reading that post, I realize I need to get out more :-D

i just watched it.. I loved SG1 as well as Atlantis, but stargate universe didnt grab me like the others did, ill give it another couple of goes to see if it picks up but it seems to be lacking something i cant put my finger on
It is lacking the darkness it needs to sustain itself. And an enemy. 3 or 4 eps in now and it is all been the same thing with each one. Oh noes the ship is going to kill us whatever will we do? Oh it wasn't trying to kill us but help us survive instead. What a relief until next week. That and there is too many characters that they need to really thin out. Most of which are dull anyways.

It reminds me of Lexx without the good story and likable characters.
