Yes. I believe they should.
I don't think that our current system (jail or jail/death in some places) is really fair on the victims. After all, jail isn't really a punishment, is it? It is purely to stop criminals from criminal-ing, and any punishment is mostly coincidental. When someone hurts an innocent person, either through uncaring for their well-being or specifically to cause pain, an injustice is created. Let's play crime physics- A force (crime) in one way must be balanced out by an equal force (reciprocal). That way, we have no more inbalance; justice is restored.

I think an eye for an eye is stupid because all you are doing is punishing someone even harsher, that will not reduce crime by the slightest, criminals don't care about the concequences, that's why they are criminals. You have to get to the barest root of the problem: Why are these people commiting these crimes? Once you sort out that problem and fix it then crime will start to go down, giving out harsher punishments does nothing but make law abiding people feel more smug about themselves. Im not saying criminals should not be punished, but I would like to see criminals be treated more like human beings than pieces of dirt.

An eye for an eye is a call for leniency; in Biblical times, it was common to kill someone for taking another persons' eye out. I doubt that our greedy, masochistic world is capable of that level of restraint.

however if you exceed the limit and its is proven then you don't wait on death row they shoot you right in court, (sure would make jury duty more exciting). Again terrible acts wouldn't be, like rape = you get raped but rather you do it twice, castration (chemicaly), 3 time and well you have exceeded your worth a a person and bam dead.
You'd also hear some really creative excuses for getting out of jury duty. But at least the fundie gun nuts would all be clamoring to get jury duty, just so they could watch someone die.

Dammit, I wasn't intending a double.

I can tell you that no one has the right to murder anyone else not matter how much they've wronged you in the past.

Not you, not the state, not the government. No one should have the power to decide someone's fate.

That being said, I can't stop anyone from taking matters into their own hands and I can be pretty honest when I say if someone ever hurt someone I love or care about, I'd probably go after them myself. I may not have the right nor should I have the power to do so, but I probably would.

From a strictly logical standpoint, this is the right thing to do. I think it's fair, and to argue against this is to bring in abstract concepts of morality and justice.
Use further logic and also add a variable for paradoxes. Things can get real ugly. :/ If humans were perfect we wouldn't need any kind of punishment.

I don't like the whole "eye for an eye" solution. For example: If someone commits murder, I like the idea of them slowing rotting in jail rather than say a lethal injection. To me, it just seems like the criminal is getting out of his punishment rather than serving it.
Well with 3 meals a day, dental care, and health care most jailed people in america have it better off in jail then a homeless man. Which is why some homeless people break windows of stores to get in jail when life is really bad for them. Of course there is the chance of rape in jail.
Aside from meals and dental care, would you wanna live life in jail for life? I'd take homeless anyday, at least you are free.
Still its harder to rot if you being taken care of. Personally I dont think we should spend tax dollars on making sure criminal have good teeth and health care, besides making sure they don't have diseases(mainly for prison workers safty).

I definately agree with an eye for an eye.

The UK Justice system is a fucking joke. Take Abdelbaset Ali al-Megrahi for example, convicted of the Lockerbie bombing but still allowed out early to go home to a hero's welcome. Bastard should have been hung.

In general though the UK needs to toughen up the laws and sentences.

However with Capital Punishment the courts need to be 100% sure they have the correct person.
Well the 100% certainty required wouldn't always apply because of human imperfection. :/

My personal opinions on the current state of the justice system and the "Oh whatta poor baby we need to help him get betterz!" mentality of some people toward violent crime nonwithstanding, I just can't support the eye-for-an-eye style justice in today's world. There are simply too many factors taken into consideration to prevent widespread disproportionate or downright bizarre retribution. I prefer our current, if occasionally rage-inducingly lenient style of appropriate punishment, for all its faults.

It's stupid. It's how gang wars start and never end.

Person X kills person Y so person Z kills person X for killing person Y, then person A kills person Z because he was friends with Y, etc etc etc...
That's only because people are stupid.

I like it, personally - it's equalizing.
One dude kills another dude, he deserves to die right then and there.

Completely fair.
What if the person he killed had killed the friend of the person doing the killing?

I think it's a very debatable idea, there is pros and cons for both sides. i personally voted yes, but that couldn't be done because crimes are committed everyday and we wouldn't be able to hit every person with a bat that does it to someone else, there's way too many.

I think it's right. Although I appreciate Ghandi's "An eye for an eye makes the world blind" it's been used by so many hippies as an excuse for not knowing how to fight and while it was profound at the time it has no place in todays world. To put it another way, the guy running down the street towards you with a knife will stab you before you can utter the 4th syllable of that sentence. You'd do better to bear in mind Anton Lavey's "If a man smite you on the cheek, SMASH him on the other!" if you want to survive.

(Note: I do not in anyway support or advocate satanism or, for that matter, any organised religion, nor do I discriminate against or look down on them)

an eye for an eye. Think of it this way. If you thought that your cause was righteous would you be willing to sacrifice your eye? The majority of the individuals that commit a crime are righteous in their cause. whther it be malicious intent towards another, or robbing of a store. their thought is that they need to do it. sure this kind of capitol punishment would work for the people who do it simply because they can evade being caught, but for the people who do it because they believe they need to, it will have no effect other than to force these few into self righteousness. the rapists who believe that they are doing it because they girls deserve it will think they deserve more because they have been harmed in that way as well. and the murderers that have lost their minds in the act of crime will be pushed further to the edge. I know i have seen it happen. i knew a kid that had killed a police officer. when he had been found out. they took him to the station and tortured him. he was released a year later on incunclusive evidence. he went to downtown and killed 4 police officers, who had families. all because someone wanted an eye for an eye. i understand that if someone wrongs you it seems like a good idea to retaliate but it is usually the negative approach.

I think it's bollocks. There's no point. I believe in reformation and forgiveness, rather than KILL THAT GUY WHO KILLED SOME GUY. Also, what if you got the wrong guy for the crime? Then you've just killed some innocent man, nice going, you crazy fucks. Anyway, I'm sure I heard that in the states in America where there is the death pentalty an' that the crime rate is the same or higher than in other states, but don't quote me on that.

It seems stupid. I mean I know a lot of you are gonna be all about revenge and stuff but it doesn't wash with me at all.
