In case you were following it, and in case you haven't read what the "big" announcement was today, here you go...
Everybody better sit down for this...
I'm serious...
Are you sitting?
They are releasing downloadable content which makes Fable 2 a little longer!
Great Googley Moogely!!!
And get this: Its an island! How original! And...wait for it...there are three new quests!

Okay, okay. I can't feign excitement about this anymore.

You know, this is BS in all honesty. I feel as though many developers feel like they can release games which aren't done yet because they can bank a lot more money by releasing the rest of it in a piecemeal downloadable form.

On the other hand, after tons of complaints flew at Lionsgate about how there were so few customizable options for a game that touts itself as being known for that...lo and behold, tons of new clothes, armor, a few new weapons, and a couple more people to kill.

I guess in the end XBLA is a huge double-edged sword. It must be used with care.

Your complaining about an extension to the game?

Do you get indignant when offered a sequel to a good movie? Fable 2 was what it promised, and now it offers you more.

Why maul the hand that feeds you?

What I am saying is that it should have been in the game in the first place. It's not a true expansion. The creation of XLBA has allowed for a new breed of little half expansions. I think it's lame. If you call wanting my games to feel full and complete without having to buy a bunch of content for it "mauling the hands that feeds me" then yes. Call me Darth Maul.

Inherently, it's a clever move. I mean, if the company intentionally divided the game into pieces, leaving the player wanting more each time and making them pay for the next chapter.
It's evil, but a good idea, on some crazy level.

More likely, the game was (obviously) unfinished and they're releasing this 'new' content in an attempt to slowly "finish" the game as they desired to. Just without the whole time constraint thing.
I do not condone this in any way, I'd prefer they release these mea culpa's as free downloadable content.
I can totally understand the company being pressured to release something and having the finished product suffer as a result. I can also find it admirable that the team behind it would continue the game post release in order to finish it to their original content. Charging for the finished touches? Not so much....

Would appreciate a patch that makes an old lady with a rolling pin beat you to death if you choose anything but 'love' at the end.

Well was it made at the same time?

If no then it should be a cheap add-on depending on how soon after the game it is released, if yes then it should have been in the game.

Don't complain that new stuff is coming out, complain that its overpriced, too small, glitchey or lame. I get the feeling thats what you're doing but only a little.

It's a marketing ploy dude. Nothing else. I'm just mad that they called it a "big" announcement.

I will say that the advent of DLC has led to developers putting out games with bugs that will sometimes render it unplayable. It used to be, games came out slower, but the bugs were gone before the release. When your sales are based on good reviews, you want the product they are reviewing to be the best it can be, not tell the reviewers "Oh, we'll fix that whole problem with there being no data on the disc in a patch". Sorry for the rant, but come on folks.

From the looks of your poll most people dont have such a negative view on downloadable content like you do.

A and B, depending on the developer's laziness, and the publisher's greed. The Fable 2 example sounds more like B. The damn thing hasn't even been out for a month.

Yeah, this poll wasn't even answerable for me.

Of course, DLC should always be an option. And nor is DLC always something that a company charges for. Take Valve as a great example of that.

But ultimately, companies are companies because they want to make money. Why does it surprise you that they would want to release more then one product?

I wonder if there's DC that will resurrect my dog.... yeah....
Eeep.

I borked my character's progression by deliberately choosing the one "wish" that would give me my dog back. Hearing Julia Sawalha's "disappointed mum" tone of voice afterwards very nearly made me regret my decision. At least until Dog came bounding up to me on the beach.

Anywho as mentioned above: DLC > no DLC. Some of it's pointless, sure (character models) - but I'd not class three new quests and an island as pointless. Especially as Fable II was much, much shorter than it should have been.

Didn't vote as there's no option for "a, b, and c".

While it is true that DLC offers game devs a chance to patch any last minute bugs without holding up the game as well as adding bonus content down the road without having to put out another disk, on the other end of that when they put out a big DLC only two months after the game comes out, it just feels like I'm getting played for a fool.

That's not to say I won't buy it, of course.

can't complain considering the average game release for this end of year, i think i'd rather pay that $10 for extra content for a good game instead of buying far cry 2, or mirrors edge or something.

it may be greed, but its $10, get a job, get over it.

DLC is that fore-mentioned "double-edged sword". It gives devs the chance to the patch bugs that weren't caught earlier and the ability to add new content. However, I think a lot of them are taking advantage of it. They release glitchy, buggy games, put out content that should have been included (e.g. Megaman 9), or release tiny bits of content at inflated prices.

I'd like to see DLC add-ons like this treated like PC expansion packs: $30-40 for 50-100% more game. Basically like making a whole other game, but it uses the original's engines, graphics, etc.

this poll sucks is at about Fable or all DLC, because some DLC is good and some isn't. It can be a good way to release expanison packs, or new maps for FPS's.

I'm not cool with this. But it seems to be on the rise (see the plans for Starcraft II). I'd be happy to wait a little longer and get the whole game... but maybe that's just me.

Edit: Also with the poll, i chose A and B, because some of it can be good, and some can be bad.
