Ah, I should clarify myself then. I meant that male nerds are viewed as the norm while female nerds are viewed as deviations from the norm. Obviously this mindset is incorrect, as you yourself noted.

I haven't watched any of those shows because I'm British and we don't get them over here and we have our own better ones (BEWARE, OPINION). Well, I've watched Frasier and I also thought that was pretty rubbish but the point is I'm a geek, not a radio personality. I therefore don't get insulted by the stereotypes portrayed in that. Maybe radio personalities hate Frasier because they are insulted by the way they're presented, though I'm not entirely sure what they'd find insulting about being likened to Frasier.
I also feel sad that you think that's just what a sitcom is and that's all they can be. If you like geeky stuff and don't want every character to be an insulting stereotype and also want it to be funny and clever then I highly recommend Spaced.
Thing A does not equal thing B. I thought Britain had more of this type of show, considering All in the Family is an Americanized version of Till Death Do Us Part, but you really don't seem to know exactly what I'm talking about, nor do you care to. I had Spaced on my netflix instant queue, but I'm probably not going to watch it now, knowing from the expert opinion of an anonymous person on the internet that I'm a moron and wouldn't understand how jokes work.
Your meme is bad and you should feel bad!
Sorry couldn't help it, it's just taken out of context a bit there; we're looking more for the "she's obviously faking being a geek" not the "she's geeky but not SUPER geeky"
Something more fitting would be like...
"I'M SUCH A HARDCORE GAMER!" (plays nothing but sims)
"I PLAY SO MANY GAMES!" (nothing but tf2)
"PRONOUCES 'MEME'" (may-may)
"CALLS HERSELF NERD" (What's world of warcraft?)
"I'M SUCH A COMPUTER NERD!" (uses Internet Explorer)
"D&D? I'VE TOTALLY PLAYED D&D!" (I BEAT IT!)
All that being said, they're more "common sense" nerd things. I don't play WoW myself but I at least know what it is.
Personally, I roll along with it as a joke, I don't take it literally like some people would make it out to be, but I laugh at it because. Well, being in college and all, I see girls like this ALL THE TIME. Perhaps the "gaming guy" meme would go something like this...
No, I don't have photoshop, shut up.
Note: I thought it was called the "idiot nerd girl" meme.
So some young birds are running around in fake glasses and gaming t-shirts, how the fuck does that affect you? So they're calling themselves geeks and nerds, so fucking what? If your sense of self and identity is that damned fragile get professional help.
Seriously, for a so-called subculture that rails against all the 'elitism' and 'exclusion' they've suffered in their lives, you mob sure do do practice a lot of it. Fucking hypocrits.

This is true, but also sadly the case of all subcultures. The Goth culture isn't much different, all the complaining about how other people are judgemental because of how they dress and yet Goth's overall are incredibly clique, the term 'poseur' is not uncommon in the slightest.
It happens to both, Girls more because there is a perceived rareness to them that the socially introverted male geek's scepticism and inherent elitism, plus probably not small amount of rejection humiliation anxiety, comes in.
That and you do have people riding the geek wave for the hell of it. Look at (forgettable woman who was the female lead in Transformers) for example. She's utterly clueless and is basically just trying to come off as nerdy to appeal to this fetish the "geek" culture has.
And while this new wave of "geek chic" is going on, it's natural to be somewhat skeptical. Gaming culture being as insecure as it is, we crank that sucker up to eleven and spazz out at everything that comes even remotely close.
I'm not saying it's cool, just that it's not simply because of the perceived rareness.

I wasn't saying gamers/geeks/nerds/who-the-fuck-ever were the only ones practicing this sort of hypocrisy. As you say, all subcultures do it to some degree. Hell, for all we know there's a long running and bitter feud in model train enthusiast circles over some minutae that's extremely important to them (probably scale or gauge).

I used to have a lot of fun with "goths" over this. I am not a goth, but I love being called out as judgmental for views that are not my own by people rebelling against intolerance.

Are you joking? I don't think you are but I just want to check? Hehe!
Yes, there is a meme called the 'idiot nerd girl'. The point of the meme I posted was to hit back at that meme for the nonsense that it is. Yes, maybe there are some girls who aren't particularly geeky who say they are geeks. Maybe they are doing it for attention. But there are two big points here: a) How can we possibly know whether someone is a geek or not (as if there's some hard or fast criteria) and b) Why the hell should we care? That's what the article this whole thread is about was based on - how girls have to justify their geekiness in certain circumstances because it is assumed they are attention seekers simply because of their gender, and the 'idiot nerd girl' meme typifies this.
So basically, in a thread about how unfair the original meme was, you've just come up with new and equally offensive versions of that meme.

It exists for the same reason the whole 'girls don't like nice guys' thing exists: social awkwardness, insecurity and passive-agressive behaviour as a 'defense' mechanism.
I could go into the inevitabilities of social hierarchy but then I'd have to use a bunch of words that have been misappropriated by the pop-psych set and can't be arsed trying to sort that bullshit out.
