Hello the escapist community, I fell in love with this website on the date of the Easter miracle(Valve vs. Zynga) and the community within, and I want to hear your opinion on something that has been bothering me since my first playthrough of both FO1 and FO2, Which is better?
Why is (your choice here) better?

I'd say Fallout 2. It had the better story and it improved on the already-great original. I also liked Fallout 3 a hell of a lot, but 2 takes the cake home.

2. More to see and do than FO1, but not nearly as STUPID as FO3.

New Vegas will probably top the others though.
Okay, I'm not trying to start some flame war, but a lot of the stuff I've seen/heard of New Vegas sums it up as "FO3, in Vegas, with some improvements." Or is FO:NV returning more to the "roots" of the series?

OT: Have yet to play the first two, sadly, but I will one of these days.

Fallout 2. A touch easier to get into, lots of non-combat quests to help get in the experience points and just that more to see/do/explore.
Plus the Highwayman was a godsend as the random encounters were a lot more harsh in Fallout 2....well felt like it anyway. I actually completed it the other week, so I heartily recommend it from start to finish!

What he said. I liked Fallout 3 for giving many newcomers to the series something to get interested in.

I put 3 because that's the only one I've played.

I was thinking about getting 1, 2, and Tactics on Steam for $20

Fallout 2 was MUCH bigger than Fallout 1 and had a lot more weapons, side quests etc.

There were some things that I didn't like about Fallout 2. I didn't like the beginning. I ended up having to restart a couple of times because I kept dieing in that stupid temple. The bugs were really annoying. In one quest I kept trying to enter this one area, but the game kept crashing.
(I did eventually get into the area without the game crashing, but it was still really annoying.)

I did enjoy Fallout 3 as well, but there were a lot of things in Fallout 3 that I didn't like.

Half way through the game, you'd have enough caps to buy EVERYTHING! I liked how in Fallout 1 and 2, money was much more difficult to get. Everything was much more expensive in Fallout 1 and 2 than it was in Fallout 3. A Sub Machine gun in Fallout 2 might cost 1000 caps, but a Sub Machine gun in Fallout 3 only costed 300 caps.(or somewhere around)

In the end, I like Fallout 2 more than Fallout 1, but I like Fallout 1 more than Fallout 3.

EDIT: Also, in Fallout 2, you could get a car!

Easter Miracle? Wow, that's pathetic.

Fallout 2. While Fallout did a great job of introducing that particular universe, 2 certainly expanded on it.

I liked Fallout more than Fallout 2, but even it was somewhat dated for my taste. I prefer playing Fallout 3, even though I recognize that there are things that are better about the originals.

Fallout 2 is in my top 5 games of all time. It is a masterpiece in every respect, from the varied and complex causality nature of the players interactions with the world, to the deep rich enthralling plot and sub-plots, creating the dark and treacherous atmosphere of the post-apocalyptic world. The characters were a tapestry of vivid personalities from the cocky asshole son of the don; Jesus Mordino, to zealous defender of justice and all round good guy; Marcus, the game was filled with characters that had their own part in manipulating or rebuilding the world, and were unique experiences in themselves. Then there was the towns, the guns, the combat, the graphics (which even today, I cannot fault)... it was and is an endlessly replayable and uniquely great game.

Wait, you were from Zynga huh...
Not hardly. I just find it incredibly stupid people take a frivolous internet contest so seriously, so I never put any weight into it.

After all, the quickest way to generate website traffic is host a faux award. As it stands Zynga has the stink of corruption about it, while Valve won't give word on HL2E3. Neither is worth my attention.

Fallout 2, most definitely.
I rented Fallout 3 and fell in love.
On reflection though, it seemed to simply stem from the excitement of seeing my favorite game represented in 3d.

At the time the first fallout was so different and magnificent at the time that it blew me and my friends away. It'll always have a place in my heart.
