First things first i refuse to recognize Fallout 3 as part of Fallout franchise, i treat it as unrelated different game that just happens to share a name and for unknown reason has 3 in the end, but hey, Metro 2033 was there too and i never played Metro 61 :p

As for the actual Fallout games, original one was a best first step, while the second added so much more its hard for me to not love it as one of top cRPGs ever made. Also the speeches of Navarro Drill Sgt., Harold the Ghoul, Enclave Soldier, President...

I enjoyed Fallout 3 more than the previous entries. That said, I think Fallout 2 is a better game in many respects. That may sound somewhat contradictory, but the key difference is that while Fallout 2 had a better story and a better role playing experience (in that you had more legitimate options when approaching a problem) the actual game was not a great deal of fun to play. I played the game and beat it a few times but I'd wager I've spent far less time in Fallout 2 than 3. Fallout 3 likely trumps all the previous fallout games including Tactics and that god awful previous-gen title Brotherhood of Steel.

I've only played FO1 and FO3, but of the two I perfer the third. FO1 is great but it's more like a flash game that I would have expected.

Fallout 1 by miles. I could never get myself immersed in the sequel, moslty because they ripped out the things I loved from the original.

Fallout 2 didn't have the same punch because I've already experienced those first encounters with ghouls, super mutants etc and Fallout 2 had never those amazing discoveries (except at the end). Then theres the fact your civilized grandfather build a tribe that worship him, the lack of BoS and while people scream about how amazingly atmospheric New Reno was, It can nor will ever beat the Glow. Never.

I picked up Fallout 1 and 2, and gave them both a try. Fallout 1 really didn't seem to have nearly as much choice as people suggested. There might have been two or three situations i could have talked someone out of fighting, other than that it was max energy weapon skill and run around disentegrating crap in Power Armor.

Fallout 2, it took me a month and a half of on again off again playing to get past the horrible beginning. It seemed to have a little more in the way of choice, but not a whole lot. Again, max energy weapons, power armor, stuff goes poof.

Fallout 3. The only choices you can really make that leaves any lasting marks on the world are a:) Destroy Megaton and b:) Destroy the Citadel from Adams AFB in broken steel. Both Jerk moves(and one is completely retarded) but I'm ok with that. The rest is pretty linear. However I probably spent something along the lines of 300-500 hours playing Fallout 3, maybe 12 in Fallout 1, and 20 in Fallout 2. More to see, more to do, 3 is just an all around better game.

Edit: By linear, i mean it's going to happen whether you like it or not. Like you can either destroy Eden, or when you wake up in Broken Steel Liberty Prime did it for you. Nothing really leaves any marks outside the norm aside from the above stuff

I played Fallout 3 first, then played 1 and 2.

It's a tough decision, but Fallout 2 takes the cake by a nose. It was the best in my opinion because there was so much to do. Fallout 3 was great, but it just seemed a bit too empty at some points. Plus, Fallout 2 had the Porn Star trait(?) and Highwayman. (The only drivable car in any game.)

Fallout 2. Builds on best things of the first one. Probably one of the perfect sequels we see pop up rarely.

Fallout 3 is best on the graphics front. But unpolished on the animation front. The ending is also a little... "Lol, it ended?"

Fallout 2 is probably my favourite game of all time. Shamefully, i haven't played Fallout 1 but the time limit would probably annoy me.
I'm pretty sure there's a mod out there that gets rid of the limit.

Fallout 2 had the best depth and story, but Fallout 3 had the best gameplay. I'd say they're even.

I vote fallout 3.
My reason is because I have not played the first and I have only played the second for an hour so I cannot judge them good or bad.

Also Fallout 3 in itself was an amazing game. I have the GOTY edition which comes with all the DLC and Im still playing it at the moment.

Fallout 2.

Fallout 3 was alright, but Bethesda clearly had no idea how to do fallout. Seriously, how shit was that power armour? I should be a GOD AMONGST MEN. Combat armour should be like paper in comparison, but noooo, Bethesda makes a tin foil condom that is actually worse than some of the game's combat armour.

I'm actually quite interested in New Vegas though. Traits are back!

Never really got into Fallout 1 or 2 so I'd have to say my favourite is 3.

I played Fallout 1 and I didn't really like it that much... but then again, I never really liked that style of game... so Fallout 3 is my favorite because it's the only other Fallout I played. But before anyone gets mad, I would like to defend my position... see, the atmosphere is my favorite part of Fallout and I find it extremely hard to get immersed when I'm in a drop down third person game like that. The furthest I can go is a third person shooter like Uncharted, but looking through the actual eyes of a wastelander... being able to climb to the top of a hill and look out and see the destruction right before my eyes... that's the best part of the Fallout experience for me. And I don't get the same feeling from watching my character below me take turns attacking a mole rat. But that's just me.

I just don't think you guys have the authority to say that fallout 3 is the best if you haven't played them all. It just doesn't make sense.

I have fallout and fallout 3. Fallout 3 is a joke when it comes to writing and story, but pretty good in the atmosphere. But when i play a RPG i'm expecting a great story and cleaver dialogues, not blowing heads off.
