Whoever does not like Fallout 3 is either impatient, not right in the head, or a troll. I don't like the end sequence, but it is an amazing game. It has way more soul than many of the fps these days. *cough cough COD cough*
How stupid is that statement? I hate the game, for reasons I gave above, mainly focused on having actually loved the first two (good) games in the franchise and the first few (good) games on the Elder Scrolls franchise and thinking Oblivion and Fallout 3 are kind of dumb by comparison.

How is that "impatient" (Daggerfall was bigger and the first two Fallout were comparable in size), not right in the head or trolling?

*Sigh*

Prepare for a crazy girl rant....

The only thing I MIGHT be trolling is COD, but otherwise, no. I honestly think that Fallout 3 is in a completely different league than ant of the COD games. Just my humble opinion.

I have not played Elder Scrolls before, so I don't have a right to compare Fallout 3 to it.

Let's pretend you've never played Oblivion or Elder Scrolls before. Would you have a different opinion on Fallout 3? I merely try( not always succeed) to look at things from an unbiased viewpoint until I have a reason to be biased about it.

Anyhow, it does have a certain soul to it that many games lack these days. It honestly didn't really seem thrown together just for the hell of it.

It made me COMPLETELY change my viewpoint on FPS games. I used to think that they were mostly just for guys and didn't have anything to them except for shooting each other. Fallout made me stop hating on FPS( Yes, I know it's technically a Role-playing FPS, but still).

I thought it was very original, interesting, philosophical, and fun. It put a very cool atmosphere into the game, which made me not curl up into a ball whenever something hit me. I used to freak out when some creature attacked me, but the music made me fearless. It's also an interesting thought on how life could be like should countries decide to bomb each other.

I know many people who said they couldn't get through the first part of the game, where you had to play through your childhood. They decided the game was boring and gave it away/threw it away. These people also tend to be a bit impulsive, impatient, and bored when it comes to real life and video games. They gravitate toward instant gratification. Such is the downfall of this generation.

Kids get bored so easily these days that they forget to hold onto things that could be important or beautiful. Even if something(like a video game) is shorter, doesn't mean that it should be thrown to the side. It means that it didn't succeed in holding your attention long enough and you need to find something new to make you "happy" again.

Then again, maybe I'm just an ignorant girl. *shrug*

I am done. lol.

I fell in love with the game ever sense I left Vault 101 behind me.

I got aroud to playing it this August. It's honestly the funest game I played in 2009, and the game I spent the most time on. The story was immersive the characters were all interesting, the exploring was also really fun.
Being a kind boy scout who helps old women cross the blown up road was fun. Being a heartless murderer who kills old woman while there trying to cross the street was also fun. (What i'm trying to say is no matter what way you played the game, it was always filled with oppurtunites and loot, and dead old ladys.)

My only complaint in the game was that the "Big" battles were as big as school yard scuffels. When I ran across the bridge to Project Purity at the end, I was expecting atleast 100ish Enclace Vs. 50ish Brotherhood of steel....boy was I disapointed.

(Off Topic Fallout 1: How in the world do you find the entrance to Vault 13?.......god the steam bought copy of Fallout 1 really really needs an instruction manual.)

Edit: Oh yes, this is my first ever 'Bethesda' game i've played.
Edit:Edit: I only bought Broken Steel add-on pack, L4d2, Assassins creed 2, Dargon Age, GTA 4 and Fallout 1, aren't leaving me with much time to go back.

You're lucky you got anyone to reply to this thread at all. a) there are tonnes of threads about FO3 b) one word: metacritic c) you put no effort into this thread or poll.

That being said. FO3 was awesome.

Oh, no, you don't get to play the gender card like that here, I'm afraid. Even if I had been aware that you were a woman (I honestly hadn't even looked at your username), it was you who dismissed people who don't enjoy the game as stupid or impatient. Now you pout and blush and go all "oh, it's just my humble girly girl opinion"? Come on!

For the record, I played Fallout 3 quite a bit and Vault 101's section is actually the only bit I found halfway enjoyable. At least it has a narrative drive, and the choices you make have noticeable effects that create a solid narrative. Of course, the moment the game opens up and the number of things that come into play explodes all semblance of a story goes completely away, replaced by inane bit-sized quests

As for the perceived bias... well, I can't un-play Fallout and Fallout 2. It feels a bit backwards that my experience with the prequels somehow disqualifies me to say that they were much, much better. Now, it's perfectly okay for you to not have played them (they are old and somewhat obscure, after all), and for that fact to make you more receptive to how Fallout 3 deals with the genre but, again, it was you who said people who disliked Fallout 3 were "impatient, crazy or trolls".

But what's most interesting in your response is how you claim Fallout redefined FPSs for you. That's exactly my problem here. I happen to not be a fan of COD or any other typical military shooter, either. But I didn't go into Fallout expecting a shooter, I went in expecting a good RPG, regardless of the combat mechanic they chose to use, which is why I absolutely hated Fallout 3 but I loved Mass Effect and managed to have some fun with Borderlands.
*Raises Eyebrow*

Y'know this is exactly why I'm usually very very quiet in real life. I decide to have an opinion, and of course there's somebody to get offended. But, that is life, unfortunately.

All I'm saying is that:

1. I'm a girl, and we usually don't think the same as guys when it comes to games due to social/emotional attachment. I got very attached to the characters, therefore it seemed better to me.

2. Maybe I should have made it more clear that I was being halfway sarcastic when it came to calling people "stupid" or "boring". I would never do this outright, especially if it incurred so much wrath.

3. The majority of people who dismissed this game as being bad, that I know personally, were either impatient or not open-minded. I'm not referring to you, especially because you don't even have an avatar that I can possibly guess who you are or what you're interested in.

If it makes you happy, I'll say you win. I don't have as much experience with similar games, and I was expecting it to be a shooter after I watched my bf kill zombies in a gruesome manner.

Thank you, and good day.

I thought it was a great game ... for about a 100 hours ... then it was boring, first play through is always the best after the second and third i didn't care anymore
i got it for 360 then for PC so i could mod it ...turns out modding is harder than i thought...and i suck at using pc controls >.<

The story is pretty interesting without being SO good that you miss the entire purpose of exploring and do the main quest very quickly. Makes a nice balance.

I liked Fallout 3 quite a bit. Lots of stuff to do.

It was a lot like Oblivion (in my opinion), but I'd probably prefer Oblivion.

I don't feel the need to "win" anything here, to be honest. On the grounds you outline here, I'm more than happy to just agree to disagree. It was the language on your original post that bothered me, not the fact that you liked the game.
I can understand that. I didn't really clarify that I was trying to be funny.

On PC, top ten games of all time material. I have it ranked 9th and I'm thinking I've got it ranked too low. It should, however, be noted that I'm judging the Game of the Year Edition, since without Broken Steel installed to fix the shit-sandwich original ending and raise the too-restrictive level cap, Fallout 3 is a much weaker game (which is why I didn't give it my personal GotY award last year. If it had shipped with Broken Steel and the other DLC, that would likely have been different!)

As for mods making the game better? This is undeniably true (as it is true for almost all PC games), but as far as the out-of-the-box game goes this is Bethesda's best effort (again, assuming you've got at least Broken Steel.)

Your poll seems slightly biased. There is a "Good" option, an "OK" option, a "Bad" Option and a "Very Bad" option, but no "Very Good" option, which is the one I would vote for. Fallout 3 is an excellent game, and definitely one of my favourites of 2008.

Oblivions levelling system is the one thing that could have saved F3 and made it interesting.[/quote]
That leveling system was total shit. Most magic skills were near impossible to level effectively unless you were already at apprentice level. Sneaking was also near impossible unless you were already adequate at it. I dislike most of fallout 3's similarities to oblivion. Trading is a mutant hybrid between TES and Fallout, they cut down on the number of skills from FO1&2 because I guess they think that's the best way to deal with an arbitrary level cap that was too early for someone to get all their skills up, and of course, the real time combat from the first person perspective. There were also little things like the stealing system and how now you have little minigames for opening locks and hacking terminals. It was allot better when a roll of the die determined the lockpick attempt. I liked oblivion, but it just doesn't mesh well with fallout. Besides, the oblivion level scaling was retarded on the level of lolcats.

It has all the makings of a good game, but I just didn't enjoy it. I got stuck in world geometry a bunch of times, the autosave feature can get annoying if you accidentally piss off 1 town member (which then pisses off the ENTIRE town) and you then can't go back, and the AI can be very questionable at times.

YMMV, but I made it about to the Radio Station before I just said, "This isn't worth my time anymore" and sent it back to Gamefly.

It's a pretty fun game. Though it is that kind of game that I will play for a weekend straight and can't put it down and then not play it again for another 3 months.
