Well, i just wandered around the wastes after doing some stuff in Megaton. The amount of shit you can find is pretty awesome, and sometimes you find odd locations, like the Republic of Dave (which is literally run "democratly" (you can initiate an election and have Dave lose) by a guy named Dave and his 2 wives and his sons make up the army of the republic of Dave)

I regularely come back to Megaton, and i have done so much good that random people come to me and give me free stuff, which i was really suprised to find when it happened the first time.
Now i get back to Moira to sell her the junk i´ve found, and to sleep in my bed and fill my personal armory safe with unused guns (currently, a minigun with 300+ Bullets resides there waiting for my Big Guns skill to rise...I guess when i will finally use it, i´d have more then 2000 rounds.)
I also made a custom out of finding and repairing guns and selling them for alot of caps since I also am pretty good at maintaining stuff.
But, I´m your regular Smallguns player, straighforward "solve problems with voilence" guy, but I do not attack people who didn´t do me wrong or from which i don´t expect a high value.
I am currently battleing the idea of pickpocketing Simms key to the armory, to steal all the weapons in there...

After all, Fallout 3 is what you make out of it.
I generally like the idea of post apocalyptic life and stuff.
Also, I´ve really grown to love Dogmeat...he followed me through so much shit...it´s a good thing that, along with Broken Steel, he levels with you unnoticed and get´s enormous amouts of health.
Be careful, Deputy Steel is in the Armoury. He has a Flamer and a Laser.

Man I hated fallout3.
I just couldn't stand it.
Not because I hate the adventure aspect. No, no that is awesome as always.
But seriously, it's freakin bleak, depressing, and everything kills you. Even the environment. But not in a creative "Aww that plant just tried to eat me!" sorta way. More like "You now have cancer" sorta way. Oh, and the healthcare? Its freakin terrible. First time I played I got a concussion right off the bat and had no fuckin idea how to make it stop. It gave me a migraine.
Taking care of your partners is a pain in the ass. Dogmeat is the only one I can stand...mainly because he doesn't talk back and you can heal him whenever....
You can't kill the children, for some god fearing reason. But you can make them orphans. Much more ethical.
Walking across the wasteland seemed more like a chore than an adventure. All for short, easy, tedious missions that often leave me feeling like I missed something.
Talking to people sucks, because If I want to be anything other than a goody two shoes, they try to kill me. So now I have several towns full of dead people.
They give you radio, which would be a good thing..if the stations they gave you played good music, and you had them all right off the bat. Why did dogmeat have to die over a stupid violin, that turned out to be out of tune anyways?
I liked oblivion, where everything came together. Fallout seems too......shallow I guess. I just went on gamefaqs not too long ago to check if how many quests/missions I didn't do and where to find them. I had only done....maybe 20 or so, including main quests, and it turns out I did them all.
I really do enjoy walking through the capital wasteland and finding different groups(preferably one that doesn;t want you dead) fighting each other.
And not knowing if whats around the corner can kill you in one hit or not? IT's a good feeling.
But overall, I dislike it. Maybe if they just added more stuff to do in between cities, or maybe made it closer together...
I agree

.....I didn't find it that difficult to get started in Fallout 3. You must have not been following the instructions that the people gicve you when you talk to them. Oh, and I didn't kill Moira just to see if my gun had ammunition in it. That was pretty stupid.

I remember my first foray into Megaton... apparently disarming a nuke that could've killed them all does not excuse rampant kleptomania.

Ungrateful bastards.

One more thing: Killing whiners is apparently also frowned on for some reason.

Is it a bad game? No. Is it something you're doing wrong? No, not really. FO3 is a free-roamer, where you can basically do as you please within select limits, but with that freedom comes the need to consider any and all possible ramifications of your actions. You *can* redeem your character in terms of everyone hating you--the developers said at one point that they considered the concept of karmic redemption a big one in the game, and I personally tend to play evil for the first half of it or so--but if you're really annoyed by what you've done, start over. Yes, the first few levels can be hard, but with the right combination of tagged skills (IMO Speech+Small Guns+Repair pretty much breaks the game) and perks (focus on raising your SPECIAL stats the first few levels, take Educated and Comprehension EARLY, and focus on one or two kinds of combat to begin with--there's plenty of time to branch out later), it can be managed. Once you've gotten deep enough into the game to complete the Reilly's Rangers quest and have obtained the geomapper module, money problems become a thing of the past.

I agree.

I think you just tried to kill Moira because she's an annoying lass with a serious case of sadism. But you don't go an' kill someone for that! At least not in the future! Which you should have prepared for.

Your playing it wrong, the whole point of Fallout is to find a spork.

In order to get a spork you need to go to Old Olney naked, so drop your guns!, no explosives!.

Download some mods, do the story line to the point where you have to go to the vault 86, explore the map.

To be honest OP, i have the same problem. Even with repeated new toons I still cant get into the game. I have beat the game though. Its really unsatisfying, and if you do no side missions(which are mostly useless anyway) you could beat the game in an afternoon.

However, gratz on re-rolling and enjoying yourself.

It does seem like you're doing something wrong.

1) Don't shoot people where you can buy/sell stuff. Moira is pretty much the only trader in the beginning and of course you'll run out of money if you can't sell your loot.
2) Explore a bit. Talk to people. You'll get quests to do. Check the Pip-Boy to make sure you're going to the right place for the right quest.

Also, it sounds like you may just not like that type of game(open-world RPG).

I started out the same exact way. I was really confused. But then somehow I found a hunting rifle and then the game started picking up when I could actually get weapons. Now I can defend myself against nearly anything except for a Deathclaw.

I started out not knowing where to go either. Instead of turning right and heading towards Megaton, I headed towards the radio signal that Enclave robot was sending out. Then I saw a school and thought "oh hey, I bet there is tons of cool stuff in there". Then I was attacked and damn near killed since all I had was a pistol and 30 rounds.

Make a new character and go exploring around finding all the cool "easter eggs" and interesting things out in the wasteland. That's really where the game excels in my opinion.

It's the marmite of gaming, I wouldn't put anyone down for not liking it.

While I loved Fallout 3 I hated it's predecessor, Oblivion which, give or take a few key points, is basically the same game. It's really all about how far you let it draw you in.

What you've done wrong: continued to play a mainstream game.
Answer: turn off the console and get a job

I recently got fallout 3 for the 360. At first everything was fine up until you get to the first town. I had no idea what to do/where to go and whenever I went to where the marker was it lead me to a dead-end subway station. I gave up and walked back to buy some more ammo. I was testing to see if I had any amo in any of my guns and I shot the store lady thus making everyone pissed at me. I fended them off for a good while then left the place i was using as my fort. I explored around a bit and now this is where I stand:

I have no money, no ammo, no indication of where to go, bored with repetitive environments, everyones dead and the people who arnt dead hate me.

I am frankly dissapointed because I was looking for a really solid, entertaining RPG that wasnt as text loving as ME1(or 2) or DA:O. What should I do to spice this up and make it the jaw dropping deliciousness I always hear about?

EDIT: Thank you all for your pointers and tips! I restarted a new toon and low and behold I am enjoying myself much more :)
Get used to repetitive environments.
