Oblivion is my fave, followed up by Fallout 3. It's odd because Fallout is better in every department than Oblivion (Better Gameplay, Better Story, Better Character System, etc.etc.etc.) but Oblivion just was more fun to play.
This exactly, when I first started play fallout 3, I could tell how much better it was, and I said so. But over time, the overall bleakness of the games got to me and all I could think about was wanting to be in cyrodil, running with the deer again.

It was tough to decide between Oblivion and Fallout. It really came down to the fact that I prefer Fallout's leveling system to Oblivion's. Both were very immersive and fun about equally to me.

I'm of the opposite opinion to Crazzee. I prefer Fallout to Oblivion. For some reason I just couldn't force myself to sit down and play Oblivion for more than an hour or so a week...

Which a dang shame too, since I got the Game-Of-The-Year Box Set. (Comes with Shivering Isles and The Knights of the Nine expansions... on the off chance you didn't know ;) ) The ironic thing is, I've followed Bethesda's work since they released the first chapter of The Elder Scrolls. The eight floppy disks which install TES:Arena are still sitting on my desk, used as coasters, while I type this :p

Fallout 3 however seems to be infinitely more engaging, and I have already bought the two expansions currently released for it (Operation: Anchorage and The Pitt)

Maybe I'm just odd...

Who the hell would want to play Oblivion, it was just Fallout 3 with swords
and who in their right mind would play Fallout three? That sack of shit was just Oblivion with guns

(in all seriousness, Fallout 3 was better. But Bethesda, give your NPCs eyes!)

Even though fallout 3 is a more "Advanced game".I don't like it as much as Oblivion "Wich I still play".Fallout 3 is a gorey mess that's good 1 or 2 times through...And the expansions are really good "That reminds me, Has The Pitt released yet?".But's it's not a game I'll play for the next 3 years like I have Oblivion.

Before I say this, don't go through the whole "Maybe you just hate old games" schlock because I still love Unreal and Planescape Torment.

I've played Fallout 1 and 2, and their both just freaking terrible. By the way Fallout fans whine about Fallout 3 you'd think the game was a gigantic stinker. I agree with Yahtzee in his statement about fans, it especially applies to fans of the first two Fallout games, like the people at No Mutants Allowed.

"Fans are clingy complaining dipshits who won't be happy with any concession you make"

Can you believe they complained that Super Mutants were changed into blood thirsty irradiated monsters and not the original idea, which was a botched super soldier program... Yes, because botched super soldier programs are so brilliant and unique.

I'm partial to gun's and futuristic situations, so Fallout 3 is all go for me, but Oblivion is by no means bad. In fact, they're a close tie as my favorite RPG.

I love both, but I prefer Fallout 3 for the improved game engine. Fallout 3 also just feels more polished than Oblivion was.

One of the things I don't like about Fallout 3 is the lack of unique items. I know there are a few in there, but I wish there were more to find (more styles of pistols, assault rifles, sniper rifles, etc). At least the PC users can mod new content in to improve the game's life (I have over 105 hours in on my first game, and I have not "finished" the game yet).

Oblivion all the way. I logged more hours in that game then any other to date. I also loved Fallout 3, but it just didn't bite me the same way.

I could simply never get into Fallout's setting. I mean, I appreciate the craftsmanship involved in all three games (3 for a different reason than 1 and 2, of course), but I prefer hack-and-slash sword-and-sorcery games to post-apocalyptic sci-fi.

I personally liked both Oblivion and Fallout 3. I loved the weapons in Fallout 3 but I missed the factions in Oblivion; They were some of my favorite quests to do.

Daggerfall

It was huge, had great graphics, good story, and was set in the bay. Go bay kings ftw.

apparently im part of the minority, but after playing Oblivion, Fallout 3, and Morrowind
i have to say:

Morrowind>Fallout 3>Oblivion

Morrowind was easily the most immersive, customizable, in'depth game i've ever played, and Oblivion lost that

Fallout 3 was almost as immersive as Morrowind but even then would've won based on graphics and gameplay if it weren't for the crappy story

therefore Morrowind wins

EDIT: let the outraged comments commence!! >.>
