I picked Fallout 3 over Oblivion because it just felt a lot more immersive and they fixed some of the issues (not all) I had with Oblivion. The same goes when comparing Oblivion improving on Morrowind, etc.

Ok, I voted Morrowind. I frankly prefer TES's system of roleplaying a LOT more than Fallout's ("practicing" your skills as opposed to the tried-and-true XP system). But why Morrowind over Oblivion?

Okay, so there are things that Oblivion has over Morrowind, but they're all about the interface and controls, not the actual world. There are a dazzling array of architectural styles in Vvardenfel: sea shanty towns, House Hlaalu cities, House Redoran huts, House Telvanni "what in god's name are those things" buildings, Imperial keeps, Dwemer and Daedric ruins, and the obscenely huge city of Vivec. Oblivion is just standard fantasy RPG fare. It also doesn't help that the game is a massive retcon of TES lore.

Vvardenfel is just more fun to explore than Cyrodil, and that's the thing that I like the most about Bethesda's RPGs. Oblivion's dungeons just feel a bit off. Everything is right angles, without a vertical dimension.

But I won't deny, Bethesda greatly improved the controls and interface in Oblivion. I just wish they hadn't developed it for the consoles.
Its not fair to say all of that about Morrowind and then let people assume that all of the places in Oblivion are built out of painted shit bricks, it refected just as much different (be it made up) culture as Morrowind except Oblvion had a reason for the places looking like they did. With it being central to all the other places Cyrodil would be influenced by that culture that closer you got to it... and of course there are so many Ayleid ruins, it was the centre of the Ayleid civilization! Massive structures arent just going to dissapear like the Dwemer from Morrowind!

Oh and here is another salty, controversy treat for you. Out of the Fallout games I preffered Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel for the Playstaion 2!!!

Holy crap Fallout 3 is the main one?
Are you guys insane?
You are obviously all new-gen fans -.-

Fallout 1 and 2 were and still are absolutely amazing games.
Fallout 3 was a disgrace and is like the un-talented child in the perfect family.

I'll justify myself by saying Fallout was boring, repetitive, slow and too much like Oblivion.

I loved Oblivion hence why i thought i'd enjoy Fallout but it was so much like Oblivion that the dark humor from the original Fallout games were completely destroyed.

Maybe some of you should look out for older games and learn something.

Developers now are lazy, back then they weren't.
(Its these blasted patches etc "We can fix it online")

Really? Other than Melee sucking (as i have already pointed out) and everyone appears to have dropped their brains somewhere while traversing the wasteland and whoever found them ate them or put their knowledge toward making big guns to kill everyone with! Everyone knows that in crisis humans pull together like hot, melted cheese on a pizza(?). The point being people would have made a better bunch of places than bits of sheet metal stuck in the floor... and dont say "they couldnt make a good place because of the slavers", because if that were true then why do the slavers live in such a shit-tip too?!

This is probably the hardest poll I have ever seen on this sight. Fallout 3 and Oblivion are both superb games. There is probably more quests and depth to Oblivion, but there are a lot more choices in Fallout 3. I really enjoyed how in both games once you got higher up in levels you were nearly indestructible. It made me feel like I could take on an army. I voted for Fallout 3, but I could have just have easily voted for Oblivion. I will say, Oblivion presents you with a number of ways to go through the game with all the different schools of magic, melee styles, and armour types. Bottom line, both games are great.

Buy COD4 then, although that way you would meet up with other people who like to shoot guns and I dont know... you might not get ridiculed for opening your mouth in a forum that is talking about an RPG not an FPS! Oh, that and they probably own you aswell because you like guns more than them but they are better with them.

I...I...er...
I can't decide.
I love all of the Bethesda games. Fallout, Oblivion, Morrowind - all of 'em. Morrowind for it's compelling story, Oblivion for its polished feel (after Morrowind, anyway) and Fallout for its incredible ability to immerse the player in the ravaged wasteland. All of them have there strong points. Deciding is like choosing between children.
However, in the end, I chose Fallout. It's kind of like Oblivion, but 1-upd. If that makes any sense.

Fallout (The ORIGINAL Fallout)
It might be nostalgia talking, but this ground-breaking achievement cannot be denied as being a classic.

actually I made it to level 20,then I found out you can change the difficulty but that only made the enemies tougher but not different. Maybey I got a bad version of the game.but I still only came across th ocaisional bear or two at high levels but mostly just those dam wolfs or if I was lucky a oblivion gate. (edit) dam sorry I'm new here and I can't quite get the hang of quoting and replying

Fallout 3 was better in a LOT of ways over it's predicessors, but it is certain laking in long term content to keep you playing (especially when you consider the level cap pretty much means you can quickly exhaust that particular route of advancement and all you get from your sorties into the wastes is the opportunity to score a slightly better gun from time to time). While oblivion certainly resolved a number of my problems with Morrowind, it suffers from the same basic problem as Fallout 3. Of all the games listed, I played Morrowind the most by a huge margin, most because there was simply so much one could do.

In short, I like Oblivion/Fallout 3 because of the improved combat mechanics and enhanced immersion, but their predecessors managed to keep me in the game far longer.

Fallout 3. Bethesda apparently put more time into finding voice actors and polishing the gameplay mechanics before pushing it out. Oblivion is fun but there is only about 24 different NPC voices, and the combat (especially with multiple combatants) just feels unpolished (at times) and repetitive. In Fallout the combat is repetitive, but its harder to notice (Because of V.A.T.S. targeting, especially with the bloody mess perk), and there are many more voice actors.

Its hard to decide "Which is the game for you" other than with this question: Swords, or Assault rifles. (I know there are more weapons than that but the general idea is there)

but fallout 3... good indeed. but not great. and fallout 1 and 2 are awesome. far superior to fallout 3. so my vote went for fallout 2.

On this issue, there is only one relevant focus point. Game breakers.

Fallout 3: has no actual vampires. Just a clan that can't "infect" you and actually fits into a larger theme of delusional vampirism like that we see culturally on the Internet. On top of that if you help them in a peaceful way you get the Shishkebab, which kicks butt. As such, there are very few game breaking mechanics in Fallout 3, unless you cheat or purposefully try to glitch yourself.

Oblivion: has vampires that infect you, and if you sleep after three days later you can't get a blessing to cure it. You can't even go out in the sun without dying after a few seconds. Then there's the Bloodgrass glitch. On PS3? Not fixable; you need the console. So you're stuck with the worst stats in the game (especially if you are a "good" character), cannot go out at day and so have to use the "wait" function all the time AND you have to suck blood so you can even do quests (talk to people). This is a GAME BREAKER and it is nigh on criminal that Bethesda did nothing to fix it for ALL users. And even if you don't have the Bloodgrass problem, the quest for a cure is excrutiatingly long and not in any way fun.

By far, Fallout 3 is better.
