Poll: Fallout 3 or Fallout: New Vegas

I'm actually having a hard time deciding on this one. While yes I do like the upgrades that they made in New Vegas (the buddy system, iron sights, having faction meters basically overpower fucking karma, and weapon customization) and the fact that New Vegas' story was ENTIRELY better than the shitty one they came up in with Fallout 3, I also liked how Fallout 3 seemed a lot more immersive than New Vegas. Fallout 3 and its DLC made me feel like I actually was some lost Vault dweller set loose in the world. New Vegas kinda just felt like it went "here's a gun, here's a path. Go at it." But I don't know. Each has its pluses and its downfalls.

Fallout NV was fun, but with Fallout 3 I was more invested in the story and for me that's what makes me want to continue playing. I felt more connected to the world in FO3 rather than shot in the head and dropped right into it with no background to speak of and no real motivation. I didn't want to kill Benny the way I wanted to save the PC's father in FO3.
Plus, I absolutely hated running around New Vegas, which should have been a fun experience but it just felt to me like running through a maze of same-y looking architecture and through identical entrances and exits. I got lost so often.

Though, I do adore the intro to NV. <3

new vegas hardcore mode could have been harder. you had to eat and drink but only like once a week or something.
on that note, when I try to play on hardcore mode, for some reason my character dies of thirst within about 2 in-game hours. I couldn't play it because my sleep deprivation went up but sleeping even 1 hour would make me critically thirsty and not decrease my sleep enough to help.

I personally prefer my own brand of Fallout 3 Hardcore: turn the HUD off and never fast-travel. If you think Fallout 3 wasn't hard enough, try it out.

So I've played through both of the recent Fallout games (sans DLC) and after playing New Vegas for a while I realized that I wasn't having as much fun as I had playing Fallout 3. True, New Vegas has a better story line and characters in my opinion but I found the Mojave Desert really boring compared to the Capital Wasteland. Also, even though they fixed a bunch of the problems that I had with Fallout 3 like adding true ironsights and weapon mods I always found the overall gameplay in Fallout 3 to be better. I talked to a few of my friends and some said that I was right and Fallout 3 was the better game and some said New Vegas was better so I was just wondering, what's you opinion?
I only wish Fallout 3 had weapon mods and the ability to use weapons of similar types for repair parts, the way New Vegas does. Other than that, I found Fallout 3 to be more balanced, more immersive, more open in terms of reputation (couldn't do anything without someone hating you for it in New Vegas), and a lot more fun to explore. New Vegas had some better writing and the amazing character of Yes Man, a couple fun sidequests and a more epic finale, but otherwise, Fallout 3 gets more of my vote.

Tesla cannon, gauss rifle. No more need be said. Til Vegas gets em, I'll stick with 3 GOTY edition.
Telsa Beaton Prototype Cannon - Crashed Vertibird

It's Orange...its amusing

YCS/186 - Not Wild Wasteland

Uses 4 not 5 ammo and has a brown "camo" on it - VERY FREAKIN FACERAPE

OT:

Fallout 3 + Fallout New Vegas - I enjoy them both

As much as I blasted New Vegas when it came out (some people took offense to that but I stand by it because it was a pile of shit and glitches, still kind of is) it's a lot better than Fallout 3 in a lot of ways and I haven't even gotten 50% of the way through.

In terms of gameplay it's leaps and bounds better and I'm sure it'll only get better as time goes with modders. FO3 did have an amazing ending but, I dunno it wasn't challenging (even when doing a run without going to any towns) and that's not been a problem with NV.

I think it breaks down like this: If you played Fallout 1 and 2 before 3 then you probably liked Vegas better because it is actually a successor storywise to those games. If you only played Fallout 3 and prefer Bethesda's big open world-exploration then you will like 3 better.

Having played the originals I really apprecited how they tie in the events of the first two games into the most aspects of the game. In a way the whole atmosphere and feel of New Vegas is quite different and more rewarding if you know the characters, plot, locations of the original titles (wasteland omelet comes to mind).

Also, I hate to say it but it's not a true fallout game if there aren't a ton of glitches when it comes out. Such as the programmer's curse of having so many non linear ways to accomplish everything.

I liked both, but I have to go with Fallout 3 for two reasons:

1. There were less bugs and glitchy things.

2. I just found the environments more interesting in F3 than F:NV.

Fallout: New Vegas is the superior game in mechanics, leveling, writing and quests. However, it seems that some of the baby was thrown out with the bathwater as the radio is worse than Fallout 3's, the map is smaller and less detailed, and they removed several weapons for seemingly no good reason. Both Fallout 1 and 2 had multiple assault rifles, but New Vegas only has a weak 5mm carbine. Considering how commonplace they are in the real world, why remove them?

Additionally, I found some of the weapons and their mods are useless. The hunting rifle and service rifle both stand out as essentially junk used for parts due to the superior counterparts (Sniper Rifle, Marksman carbine) available at the same time.

fallout 3 was the first fallout game i've ever played so: first love. i love both, but on the ps3 new vegas is extremely glitchy, still a blast but surely tainted by the issues. the guns in vegas are better, the atmosphere in 3 is better. i'll call new vegas fallout 3.5

How? The gameplay was the same, minus a few improvements that Obsidian added.

New Vegas all the way. Better writing, better companions, better main quest, better level design, more quests, more factions, more locations, better crafting system, improved combat and the hardcore mode. Just a much better game overall.

And I found far less bugs than Fallout 3.

Fallout New Vegas for me, I had much more fun in NV and I liked that the unique guns were actually unique compared to Fallout 3's where they were just different in stats. Also NV mde me luagh more and I liked that story more. I just like New Vegas alot more basically

Fallout NV was a better written, objective oriented game. When you were doing something plot or quest related, it was great. Outside of that, it was boring as crap. Totally flat, both inside and out, everything was laid out and bare.

Fallout 3, the plot was a joke, and quests were just some extra experience. But I had so much more fun just going to an unfamiliar fast travel point, picking a random direction, and just going to see what happens. My two or three fallout NV games are about 40-60 hours each. I played one Fallout 3 game for 300+ hours, and i've done less several times.

To be honest, Fallout: New Vegas pretty much is Fallout 3 with another story. I thus voted for Fallout 3. Though to FNVs credit, the ending of Fallout 3 was really lame (but at least it allowed for a DLC).
