Pretty simple topic. Which of these two Fallout games did or do you like more?

My personal thoughts are that FO3 starts out better. It might just be because it was my first time in that universe so it was more interesting during those first bits, but I just found New Vegas seemed boring for the first few hours.

However, it has all changed. I took a little hyatus from NV but recently went back to playing it a lot. And now that I'm at Vegas I have to say the game is really fun. I've been holding off going to the Strip itself and just finishing up a plethora of side quests.

One thing I'm liking more about NV is the weapons. I love the variety and the mods, I think that was one area that FO3 was really lacking. Currently my favorite gun is my laser rifle+ (scope and splitter), but I also have a couple uber guns - the tri-beam laser rifle and the tri-plasma rifle. Only they aren't efficient so I don't use them much (use up 3 ammo per shot).

Anyway! My verdict is that New Vegas is indeed the better game, although FO3 was still great and definitely had some amazing gaming moments for me.

New Vegas, no question. It did almost everything better than Fallout 3. Only thing it completely failed at was interior design.

Seriously, even 2 room houses were fucking labyrinths. And I was scared of entering vaults solely because I was afraid I would get lost in the place and get eaten by a minotaur.

But yeah, story, world, characters, writing, companions, gameplay(you no longer have to rely on V.A.T.S. for every god damn encounter, and 3rd person is now a decent gameplay choice)... everything is much better than Fallout 3.

Also, New Vegas has Wild Wasteland, which is the greatest trait ever.

Bethesda is great at building deep, and interesting worlds. But thats all they can do. After Morrowind, they can't seem to make anything else decently. Shitty story, boring/stupid characters, and sub-par gameplay.

Perhaps in Bethesda/Obsidian teamed up, with Bethesda building the world, and Obsidian doing the writing, we could get one of the greatest games ever.

They'd have to outsource testing though, since neither of them can seem to release a relatively bug-free game. I laughed when I heard Bethesda did the testing for New Vegas. I laughed very hard.

You know, I took that Wild Wasteland perk and I can honestly say I don't think I've noticed a single "silly" thing - although perhaps it's because that is what I expect to see? I don't know but... I expected more crazyness from it.

New Vegas was better than Fallout 3 in every single way.

Every single way, and I do mean "every".

Trait, not perk. Big difference.

Also there is a Wild Wasteland moment as soon as you leave Goodsprings, about NE if I remember.

If you want, check that out it will show you all the changes.

I hate New Vegas. I hate it so much. I have yet to force myself to finish my first play through, it's just so dull and lifeless, that and all the factions are stupid. I like it when there is a clear cut villian, that way I feel all the better about myself when I beat them, or all the better when I do what they would have done. The monotony of the entire game just chills my soul.

I love Fallout 3. I love it so much. I could not force myself to not finish my first play through, it's wasteland was lifeless too, but it had a depressing saddness around it that, despite how it made you feel, it also made you want to keep on going. The mythology of it just chills my soul.

Depends.

I haven't beaten New Vegas yet...but the 26 hours I put into make it seem better.

The companion system is much better, though. Rather than dying, they just go unconscious. Meaning freak accidents and traps no longer mean a reload.

The Iron Sights are hit or miss. Some guns have terrible sights...So, I turned them off in the menu.

That was one of the best things about New Vegas. The fact that there were no good guys or bad guys. No black and white moral choices, no...ahhh forget it.

Fallout 3 is way better then New Vegas. New Vegas story was awful. I truly could not care about what was going on. Yeah, they improved gameplay from Fallout 3 but obviously if it's a sequel they are going to buff out some of the problems of the first one. The setting for 3 was way better. You get way more of the 1950s nostalgic apocalyptic feel. And this may seem like a small thing but... seriously, the music in new vegas sucked. Compared to 3, New vegas was just not good. Other then the things that inherently come out of a sequel, like improvement of the gameplay, new vegas was worse in every way.

At the current moment I prefer FO3, I've played that so many times and enjoy each it time.

New Vegas is good don't get me wrong but I've only managed to complete it once, truthfully the first few times I played I was so overwhelmed with side missions and factions I stopped playing. However I've now finally got use to it and will continue playing so my opinion may change.

I will say that FO3 has a far better opening that allows new players in gradually and lets you sympathise with James and actually like him as a character. New Vegas just sort of throws you in and assumes you've already played FO3.

Most of the stuff it adds are small situations. Like getting attacked by a gang of roaming old ladies, or finding a box of Holy Hand Grenades(its in Camp Searchlight, in one of the buildings). You notice the stuff if you know what your looking for.

I liked New Vegas a lot better in almost every way except the opening but I'm glad it wasn't just copy pasted from Fallout 3's beginning (Growing up in a vault.)

New Vegas by a very large margin. I hated Fallout 3 for it's relentlessly dreary and oppressive atmosphere and monotone color palette. New Vegas has a much better atmosphere to me. The environment is way more varied. I found the story to be much better in New Vegas too. Though that may be influenced by my extreme fatigue of "Daddy Issues" being overused in media.

The single greatest part of New Vegas, though: The faction system. It's something I had been wanting in Oblivion since the first time I played that game, and I was ecstatic to see it in New Vegas. That you can't be friends with everyone gives the world more of a sense of conflict and consequence.

Ahh, well according to that list... I'm not far enough yet lol. I did see the fridge thing though. And I'm just about to get the sexbot so I guess I'll see an old lady attack soon haha. That should be fun. I guess I'll just keep at it.

To be quite honest, I felt that the Enclave was somewhat grey. I mean, the things they do are wrong, no doubt about that, but for all intents and purposes they are the United States Government, and they have the right to try and reclaim the country. They are the rightful, and in some cases, the best potential rules the wasteland has to offer. Sure they are evil, but they are evil for all the right reasons.

The N.C.R. is the next best thing, but they seriously fall short in the ability to defend the wastes.

The Brotherhood is just as xenophobic as the Enclave, but they are trying to preserve the fleeting sparks, not rekindle the fire.

Ceasers Legion is proably the worst thing there is, next to total anarchy, but with only their swords to go on, it would be only a matter of time before another reformed nation took them out.

The Calculator just wants to kill everything that isn't a robot.

The Master, while having a flawed methodology, would have made a great leader, but over things that could not reproduce, he wouldn't have been king for long.

fallout 3 and new vegas are both really good games but fallout 3 seems to be better for the simple fact that its more indulging? i dont think thats the right word im trying to use but fallout 3 has more story to it it seems. i lost the point of new vegas after i found benny. but you never lose sight of the main objective in fallout 3. which is why in my opinion its a better game.

The massive improvements to out of vats shooting is the main bonus to gameplay.

Story was meh. But gave you much more choice, and you actually felt like you could make those major changes to the universe. Rather then Fallout 3's "look at me, I'm 18, never shot a gun before, yet I beat the biggest military remaining"

There's no objective reason to like Fallout NV over 3. The story isn't that great, guys, there are more plot holes than there are plot points, and "3 armies fighting over a strategic resource" is hardly Vonnegut. And the "DT" mechanic completely broke combat, making machine guns unusable. It also lost a lot of Fallout 3's subtlties, like how they controlled the flow of ammo to make you feel weak when you start and like a god towards the end.

Vault 11 was pretty damn good though.
