I doubt I'd buy it if Bethesda developed it. If Obsidian developed it, I'd pre-order.
Please please please please please at the very least co-develop it with Obsidian. They have Tim Cain as full-fledged staff now! Cain! Sawyer! AVELLONE!

I played Fallout 3 and didn't enjoy it. That was my first foray into Fallout games, so I thought I just didn't like the series. But then I decided to give New Vegas a chance when I heard all about the faction system, which was something I had been saying for a long time that Bethesda games needed. And I freaking love New Vegas. I'm currently on my...fifth playthrough? It's just wonderful.
Hopefully Bethesda will co-develop it with Obsidian. It seems unlikely they would hand a new Fallout game over to Obsidian. I agree with you though, Obsidian did a good job on Fallout: NV.
Agreeing completely with these two fine gentlemen. Only...they should definitely outsource QA. Otherwise...with the combined ineptitude of Obsidian and Bethesda...it would be a mess.

I voted bacon because, after reading your post further, I realised that you were talking about buying it immediately on release. I would probably buy it about a year after release so I could get all the DLC in one go and for a reasonable price. Also the modding community would already be well established.

I loved Fallout 3 and it was my first introduction to the game and universe. Can't say how many times I've sang along with most numbers while travelling.
I liked New Vegas, although I had the idea Vegas itself was a bit small, but still had a lot of fun with the game.

I'd definetely buy a next installment, provided they have bobbleheads in a limited edition version! *bobble bobble bobble*

I find it more unlikely that Obsidian would agree to do a new Fallout game with Bethesda, but I see no reason why Bethesda would not ask Obsidian to do another: New Vegas outsold Fallout 3.

I was the first person to select Bacon Answer?

Shame on you internet, shame on you.

While Fallout in another location would be cool, the 1950-1960s nuclear era style of American culture is kind of.....the entire point of the universe and why its different from other post-apoc games. Would seem weird to take it out of its element.
I too vote for Bacon, for the future, for our children.

I also agree with your points. However, I also wonder where they can take the Fallout franchise now? How long until this well runs dry?

I'd buy it anyway.

I'd buy it if Bethesda had no hand in it. Assuming the original team was back in charge then probably, especially if it had a few references to important F3/NV characters being killed by a meteorite strike

i would love a fallout that is either based in england or all of the uk, i don't know why put sitting in big ben and shooting mutants or running around a busted up buckingham palace would be awesome

Probably. I loved Fallout 3 and Fallout NV even more(hire Obsidan moar!). The framerate issues, on the PS3 at least, are fucking annoying though.

Yes. Just ignore most people's suggestions and keep it in the good ole US. Also let Obsidian do it.

So after the double negative in your intro, I'm assuming you're saying it's likely that Bethesda will make another Fallout, in which case I agree with you.

I though 3 and NV were both enjoyable, and I don't get any sense of general resentment towards the series outside of the typical Bethesda issues and maybe some writing regression. I would buy the game and I expect most people who enjoyed the last two would as well.

As far as what I'd like to see, I'd like a setting where the bombs didn't hit directly that's greener than the previous games (I know NV didn't get hit directly, but deserts are brown by default). I'd like to see more nonviolent solutions to objectives. I'd like the return of the treatment of companions from NV, where they each had their own viewpoint and arc and sidequests and stuff. I'd be interested to see if they could somehow incorporate the larger scale of 1 & 2 into the current 1st person sandbox style, like how the map for 2 was half the state of California plus a good chunk of Nevada, while 3 and NV were each about 12 square miles of their respective states.
For the record, FO:4 is most likely going to take place at or around the Capital Wasteland again. The original two Fallouts were put out by a company in the California area, which is why they were based in Cali. Fallout 3 was put out by Bethesda, which is situated in the DC Tri-State area. Since Bethesda is going to put out the next Fallout as well, I would be shocked for it not to be in the Capital Wasteland again. That said, I could definitely see side companies, like Obsidian, picking the game up. I've had my fingers crossed that a British company will raise their hands next.

I doubt we'll see too much green, unless Oasis is followed up on. As for size, I have a feeling that, based off of what Skyrim has done (rendering the map of the entire Tamriel Landscape, but only actually "populating" the province of Skyrim) I have a feeling that Bethesda may move in the direction of creating a larger world space than they use, and then populating the rest in larger "expansion-pack" type installments. One of the big rumors for Skyrim is that the three expansion-packs will take place in Hammerfell, Morrowind, and Cyrodiil respectively, which would mean that the explorable-world space could quardruple in size. Considering that the land is already pre-rendered (which was actually the major hurdle in modding efforts to create other parts of Tamriel in earlier games), it would make sense. What does this mean for Fallout? Well, it would be possible to recreate DC, and then extend the map over the course of three or four major installments, expanding the scope of the game greatly. My personal opinion is that is what I hope they do. Unlike a lot of people, I don't mind if Bethesda releases a game that isn't fully finished. I'd like for them to finish the main story arc and associated side quests, but past that, I'm ok with waiting for the other parts to come out.

I would absolutely buy a new Fallout game.

The only Fallout released to date (expansion packs included) that I haven't been happy with was that spin-off released on the PS2. So that's a pretty good track record so far.

I'd definitely prefer it if Obsidian did the writing for it, though. I had a lot of fun with Fallout 3, but it easily had the worst writing of the bunch, in my opinion.

absolutely loved fallout 3, and absolutely loved new vegas. played them both to death, and have bought them both twice (originals on ps3, then again during steam sales).

so, err, yeah. would probably preorder the special edition from just the title.

If Bethesda is doing it, then no. After playing Skyrim there's no doubt that Bethesda is a mediocre developer who got lucky with Morrowind.

If Bethesda makes it, no.
If Obsidian makes it, preorder.
If someone else makes it, I'll consider it on it's own merits.
