I'm torn between doing it on my first or second play through...
..I'm picked second because it makes scene to know the story and the different ins and outs of the game first.

I probably will. Looks like it will make the experience much more interesting.

no. My biggest problem with fallout 3 was that there where way too many little things you have to constantly worry about. In a normal game, you'll have to keep track of your Health, ammo, and the ammo of whatever kind of ability you have. In Rpgs, currency usually factors into that too. In Fallout you have to worry about health, ammo, AP, Radiation level, Weapon condition, Armor Condition, Helmet condition, (for every single weapon or piece of armor you may use for different situations,) addictions, currency, the amount of stimtacs, radaway, and lockpicks you have, encumberance, and all of the above for any given permanently killable companion you may have with you.

I don't need thirst, hunger, and fatigue factored into that as well.

While sometimes becoming a little bit tedious the inventory management part of Fallout 3 actually made you think a lot more about whether or not you could just pick up every little thing around you. You had to determine what items you had available that were necessary to your survival, would be nice to have and make things a bit easier, and things that were completely unnecessary and could just be gathered and sold. Not to mention if you wanted to build custom weapons you had to find components and usually bring them back home to store to be able to make the weapons because some parts were quite heavy.

Having played the original Fallout as well as Fallout 3 let me get a better understanding of the original idea of everything having to be considered, such as ammo weight, only being able to carry a limited number of certain things. I will most likely be playing hardcore on my second and probably any further playthrough's, only because I know there will be new elements and weapons introduced and I would like to familiarize myself with the changes in the gameplay again, I don't think not playing on hardcore will take much away from my experience because the world is so massive that even the 3rd or 4th time playing through I will still be running into new things.

I'd prefer to enjoy New Vegas the same way I enjoyed 3. There are enough new features for it to not be stale. Then I'll go for the advanced challenge of Hardcore mode.

I'm going to be trying it on my first playthrough, my impressions are that hardcore is trying to make it more realistic like needing to eat/sleep/drink. the harder difficulties on Fallout 3 were pointless, it just turned everything into bullet sponges, hopefully hardcore doesn't go down this route too.

I'll probably play it on the normal mode first to get ajusted to things, then show how undeniably awesome I am by playing on hardcore mode.

Much the same as the above, I'll go for Hardcore if it is just that ammo has weight etc. But FO3 on normal was annoying at times with the amount of bullets enemies can take.

fallout is repeatedly a very easy game to beat. what made the old ones hard was extreme bosses, and INTELLIGENT quests (which III had none of) I actually enjoyed one and two ten years and more after their release.

As for hardcore, it will not be a real challenge. the whole strat is to not get hit in the first place in this new style. snipe snipe snipe. kaboom!
if it is hard, however I will still prevail.

enemies did take too many rounds in III *emptying clip of automatic rifle into raider*

I will proably go for it the second time around. One thing that annoyed me about Fallout 3 is going from barely scraping ammo to having way too much in the blink of an eye. Going into battle with over 2000 5.56mm rounds, 3000+ Electron Charge Cells and 97 missiles buggers the challenge aspect somewhat!

Hardcore mode sounds very interesting in that it should add to the immersion. I used to eat in Fallout 3 just to maintain a bit more realism and often dumped ammo in BoS ammo boxes to give the impression I was "helping out". It should also encourage more "tactical" gameplay rather than just hot-keying stimpacks and running into the fight and spraying bullets like they came free in a packet of Sugar Bombs.

Yes. Fallout 3 was way too easy past level 8. Normally I don't care about difficulty, but in a post apocalyptic world I want to feel like I'm struggerling to survive in a harsh enviroment.

I'll do "a normal run" and then try hardcore to give myself "the true experience".
God, I hope I've got free time enough...

Ill do my first playthrough on just normal mode, then switch later on in the game/ 2nd play through.

I will definitely play it on hardcore on my second run, but as for first i don't think so because if i do too much i will get annoyed at the game and then the purchase wont feel justified.

Hell yes. I always play a game the first time on the hardest mode. Replaying an entire game just to beat with the bad guys having just a little more health is boring (even though i did exactly that for FO3)
