Both are great games but New Vegas will last you a lot longer, assuming you don't get bored of it, but if you enjoyed Fallout 3 then you should get a lot of enjoyment out of New Vegas. Don't miss out on portal 2 though make sure you get it sometime in the future as it is awesome as well.

Don't get me wrong, portal 2 is a great game
But the amount of play time you will get from New Vegas and the fact that it is just as fun during those hours, I'd have to say New Vegas

Also, what's with the moving capaches?

Wow, those are some disparate games. Both?

New Vegas I got about 90 hours out of. I really enjoy those big sprawling worlds that Bethesda (via Obsidian this time) delivers, and I find it very easy to get lost in them. New Vegas is no exception. It's a glitchy, buggy mess, but most of that is likely cleaned up by now, and there's lots to love. Probably the most enjoyable sniping game I've ever played as well, you can set up with a scoped rifle on a nearby mountain and snipe guys from tremendous range, rather than 20 feet away. Very satisfying. On the downside, it's basically MOTS of Fallout 3, with a new setting and more polished plot/dialogue.
Re-playing it right now, I'm finding New Vegas to be surprisingly bug-free, atleast on PC.

Turns out that continuously releasing DLCs for the game actually means that by the time the fourth DLC rolls around, the main game is pretty polished, i.e. free of plot-stoppers, and with only the occasional CTD (again, this is me speaking for PC, I can't vouch for the 360).

So yeah, if you're looking at it from a bang-for-your-buck standpoint, it's gonna be Fallout:NV, hands down. Expect to spend a 100+ hours if you truly want to check out all the quests and hidden locales in the main game, and probably another 50-100 hours (depending on how dedicated of an explorer you are) if you're getting all the DLC. Add even more to that if you want to replay the game doing quests from a different angle (good vs evil, diplomacy vs sneaking vs fighting) or playing the main story with a different faction.

Edit: I also liked how the designers tried to do something different with each of the DLCs - from moody survival horror and the philosophy of letting go (Dead Money) to outdoor survivalism and innocence in a paradise lost (Honest Hearts) to a wacky 50's sci-fi spoof (Old World Blues) to a desolate ultra-apocalyptic scenario with themes of revenge and redemption (Lonesome Road).

New Vegas is brilliant and will last you a lot longer than Portal 2, especially with the DLC.

They're both worth playing, but if I had to choose only one, I'd go with New Vegas.
Basically this. While I do still recommend getting Portal 2 at some point, New Vegas would probably be the better choice at this point.

New Vegas, i loved it, a lot more than Portal 2. Don't get me wrong i liked Portal 2 very much but just the feel you get walking down the post-apocalyptic desert, meeting new characters and all that, New Vegas is an amazing game, for me at least it was a lot better experience then Portal 2, but that was probably because WRPG's are my favorite genre of games

Difficult choice. On one hand, Portal 2 is my favourite game and is practically perfect. But New Vegas has a lot more content and, if it weren't for its general bugginess and a few examples of shoddy voice acting, would be nearly as perfect. One of the DLC, Old World Blues, has a lot of the same mad science-related humor that Portal has as well, so it's sort of like you'd be getting your Portal fix anyway. So, yeah, I guess New Vegas for now, but definitely get Portal 2 also at some point.

For the biggest cost to entertainment ratio: Fallout. Once you know how to beat a chamber in Portal 2, there is absolutely no replay value, unless you want to delve into speedrunning or equivalent meta-challenges. So Portal 2 is either a 5-hour or a 500-hour game, depending.

You'll get a lot more out of New Vegas than Portal 2, but they're both really worth it.

well, they're both good. but i have to give it to NV for overwhelming content. portal 2 is sorely lacking in content and replay value.

I got hundreds of hours out of new vegas on my ps3. That said you should probably get it for pc for the mods. Though you will still get much more time out of it rather than portal 2 on either system.

Your avatar suited your post perfectly. I always compare avatars to posts for some reason.

Get Portal 2.

People keep saying that New Vegas is longer, but with the map creation kit just released by valve, Portal 2's longetivity just improved tenfold, there are a hundred thousand custom maps right this moment. Plus, it's not as buggy as New Vegas.
You have a map maker. We have mods that can make amazing stories(New Vegas bounties) and even make the gameplay better(Project New Vegas, not that it needed to be improved)
So all in all still New Vegas.

They're both great, though as a lot of people are saying, Fallout: New Vegas will simply last longer, and have more motivation to replay it again and again, assuming it can draw you in and keep you. Which is true.

However, Portal 2 is equally as good, despite not having that same replay-factor that New Vegas does, simply due to the humor, the clever plot, and the wonderful characters. Put simply, its better written than New Vegas, but it doesn't have the variety and freedom that the other does.

Since you were saying that you'll be playing on the 360, go ahead and ignore any comments about mods, map makers and the like. They won't do us console gamers any good. Overall, I'd suggest New Vegas all in all, since you get a little more longevity for what you pay.

But, if you're a sucker for good humor, great characters, and a brilliant plot? Go with Portal 2. It all depends on what you're, ha ha, aiming for.

Portal 2. Apparently, my opinion of NV is in a minority, but it felt much more unpolished than Fallout 3. Fallout 3's quests were all interesting and fun, NV's were mainly fetch quests.

Most arguments are against Portal 2's replay value, anyway, which are now false, due to the nigh unlimited amount of user-generated content. Seriously, it's awesome.

Portal 2 is excellent, but if you can only get one I'd whole-heartedly recommend New Vegas. You'll get a lot more bang for your buck and is loads of fun.

Also, most of the bugs have been ironed out, so it's not as messy as it was during the abysmal release state.

So yeah, New Vegas! :)

Well get both really, Portal for the quick fun run and Fallout for the long haul.
I was going to comment on what mods to get but with 360 I'm not sure if any options are open, even the Portal community stuff might not be doable.

But I will add that New Vegas takes a while to get interesting, F3 had an awesome intro that really set the tone and NV is quite the opposite, but it gets better then F3 as you progress.

New Vegas. But it's my preference. Tried playing Portal, kinda meh. Also New Vegas provides more hours of gameplay.

I would say its a quality/quantity thing.

Don't get me wrong, they're both fantastic games.

New Vegas will last longer. Portal 2 is more enjoyable. You choose.

BTW if you select New Vegas, getting its DLC is a must.
