I'm a big fan of fanfic (being a writer of it myself), but only if it's good. I don't want to read some poorly spelled piece of crap with a story someone's pulled out of their ass. You need to put a little thought into that. And I detest too much "and then"s. Make it readable.
Yes. I admit I'm not a pro writer...I'm just a novice who writes more for fun then for reviews...but at least I know how to spell.

Depends on if the fan fiction is any good, which means I hardly ever read the stuff. But as long as you're not trying to push it as canon or something, I don't really care.

Yeah. I do not know why people of Fanfiction.net try to pass their work off as Canon.

The only fanfics I count as canon are the replacement seasons that ignore the eye-bleedingly bad third season of Disney's Gargoyles.

I like fanfic, especially so-called slash, and used to be a part of some communities (editing and beta reading). Sometimes the writing and creativity is better than the canon content.

Doesn't matter one iota to me if others don't like it or don't think that it is worthwhile or legitimate. I promise not to read it with their eyes or their brain.

If I can find some well-written stuff, I love it. Otherwise, I hate it. There is some terrible stuff out there which makes me cringe, but occasionally I stumble upon some amazing stuff and love it to pieces.

There really isn't a definative answer. Yes, some fanfiction should never exist (varies depending on the source material) while there is some decent stuff. As one person pointed out, pretty much anything written as an 'alternate' season 3 for Gargoyles is good, then again anything is better than the freaking Goliath Chronicles (anyone who liked that season deserves to die in a fire). While some can be fun little 'filler' adventures or creative twists on popular folklore (I myself did a take on the classic "Honest Axe" using Luffy from One Piece and used his straw hat instead of the Axe).

My main gripe with all fanfiction is that it kind of saddens me to see people with real creative potential waste it on other people's characters. Some of the writers (occasionally) have true talent, and are capable of producing well written pieces, yet I can't help thinking about what they would be able to accomplish if they set out to write something they could genuinely call their own.

Saying that, I'm quite glad that most fanfiction writers don't write their own material, otherwise most things wouldn't even have a passable setting or developed characters - without stealing from a competent author, they'd all be pretty pathetic.

It's like this - if you put poison in a dog bowl, it doesn't matter whether your dog eats it or your neighbour's dog, 'cos you've still given it rabies.

I once saw a fanfiction involving Anne Frank and Goku, and Hitler went Super Saiyan somewhere along the line.
Words cannot describe the endless WTF that that was.

Cross-over fics are often the worst, mostly because it's fan-wank that mixes show that barely relate. I swear there was someting that had CSI meeting some anime, and that's just silly. Sure, an NCIS and CSI cross-over would be cool, but it would be awefully bad if Mark Hamon was teaming up with Edward Elric from the Fullmetal Alchemist world.
