I am the crossroads of a character design for a story I am getting ready to write. However, I want to limit the amount of arms/abilities I overall give him as a person. By all means, pick the one you find the most visually appealing, worthy, battle ready, etc. I am not picky as to why you made your choice. Just tell me which one you'd personally pick.

Personally, I'd go with a bastard sword myself, but out of those, probably the falchion (though I must say, I always thought it was a two handed weapon. Too much D&D, I guess).

The khopesh, more exotic but really practical in the design. Hook, stab, and slash all in one.

None of them are stabby enough for my tastes, but #2 appeals the most to me.

I don't like how the seemingly western-style longswords have an almost katana-like edge, it seems off and not belonging.

Out of the ones posted, number 2 is my pick but how about something like this:

if you want some more bladelike slashing power or

the more traditional gladius for short range stabby prowess.

WE NEED A WARHAMMER UP IN THIS *****.

I think that the falcion is my favorite, of the choices given.

I love how someone already stated the "katana/it needs to be a curved blade" myth. No love for the German mercenaries who devestated the lands with their swords? C'mon guys. Within the last two swords you have blunt power to break limbs and shatter bones, a slicing sword, and something which can be used to defend with very well. Not to mention the blade itself which is just devestating to bring down upon someone.

Still. Thanks for the input.

Gotta go with the falchion.

2d4 damage and an 18-20 natural crit range is just too good to pass up. ^^

Believe it or not, it has the uncanny valley effect.

It's like you're looking at a longsword-greatsword but the tip somehow is that of a katana, it just looks "wrong" lol, no better way to describe it.

Historical accuracy and whatnot doesn't affect me, after all this is fantasy stuff, I'm imagining swords that can cut mountains in half and kill gods here, who gives a damn about what some Germans achieved in this miserable little planet which lacks magic and dragons and angry gods!

I am going to be adding actual martial arts and realistic fighting styles in these stories. More George R.R. Martin and Joe Abercrombie combined with the accuracy. I am not aiming for Erik Larson or even Tolkien with this...

Ah, I see, I guess I'm not the best person to receive advice from in that case :D. I live for high fantasy and see realistic fantasy as a slew of lost chances and what could have been but isn't, so much so that it often comes to the detriment of actually enjoying what good is there.

Still, I hope I helped ya in any small way :p.

Of those, I'd take the Falchion. If i were choosing from my own, I'd take a Claymore or a Zweihander.

None. All are far too big and not exactly subtle. Daggers are my preffered choice due to their small size (except Dragon Age, seriously WTF is up with the size of the daggers in that game), speed and handling.

Honestly, this probably isn't the place to ask. Games aren't exactly great sources of accurate information about any weapons. (what's this you say, katana CAN'T cut through tanks?! Balderdash!)

Try signing up and making a thread on myarmoury or the swordbuyersguide forums. The former is probably better educated on the subject, but the latter is easier on new guys. They can probably also give you some interesting alternatives, too.

If not, I've always had a thing for swiss sabers of the two handed variety, myself. You might wanna consider those as well.

I'd have to know more about the character but the falchion and Kriegmesser are both awesome, though I personally am partial to the rapier.

I'd go with the kriegmasser, a slashing and thrusting weapon, with a decent reach from the look of it, and probably light too. The falchion also looks nice. I'd always be more interested in swords that can be used one handed.
These are some odd looking weapons that people are posting. It seems strange to see modernised versions of the khopesh, gladius and xyphos. Whats their purpose, I thought anyone buying such an old design of weapon would want it only for collecting purposes, or reenactments.

I understand the claymore, but zweihanders look horrible, judging from the ones I've seen up close, you'd have to be a tank to use one.
