Zombies aren't zombies if they can think, run or use weapons of any kind. Other than a chainsaw duct-taped to their hands.

I use the Zombie Survival Guide as a... guide when it comes to what a zombie is or isn't. That book is brilliant, and made zombies seem almost real.
Zombies are also more scary when slow. Yeah, a fast zombie can kill you faster, but the psychological terror of a vast shambling horde is so much more terrifying.
But that's just me.
I agree to everything you just said. Especially about Max Brooks's gem.
Agreed.

Fast zombies worked really well in 28 Days Later, but those were people infected with a virus causing them to experience all-consuming rage at a whole new level, and not really reanimated corpses.

Fast zombies were shit in the remake of Dawn of the Dead, for example.

They worked in Left 4 Dead, however, but the frantic panic you feel when thousands of infected rushing towards you, hungry for your delicious flesh, is a very different fear from the opressive dread that you feel when hordes of stumbling, infectious dead are taking your barricades and boarded up windows apart one plank at a time, something I have yet to see in a game.

Which movie is that screenshot from? I'm thinking either 28 days or weeks later, but as far as I recall those movies had different protagonists than this guy.
Its 28 days. The guy cuts his hair and shaves later
edit: oh and i like slow zombies. There is just something about an innumerable horde moving slowly towards you that scares the shit out of me. They also allow for the creation of more suspense and actual fear than the shock impact of the fast zombies

Well it depends if it is reanimated corpses or a rabies like infection. I like both because slow zombies allow you time to escape or take a shot at their head but get too comfortable or slip-up and they will be munching on your face in moments. Fast zombies keep you alert and you don't have to worry about blasting them in the head, as long as you hit something vital or take a large enough chunk out of them they will "die" but it also means that you can't really run away, fight or die.

Well, in the case of the fast zombies they are never (I guess) called zombies, usually they are "infected" so they are diferent, being a zombie a dead person brought to life while an infected in most cases is kind of like people that have rage and cant control themselfs (they are crazy).

But yeah, we can say that "infected" is another kind of zombies because their purpose in the world is to eat brains, lol.

I voted for the fast ones since it makes sence if you die from a zombie. (how can you die from something that is slower then you even when you are walking?)

depends. If I'm watching a movie I want fast zombies. If it's real life and I'm tring to survive the zombie apocolips I would want to face off against the slower ones

Thanks. For some reason I thought that 28 days was about the same people that are in 28 weeks. Gotta watch it again I guess.

I have never in my life found slow zombies to be scary. While a huge horde of slow, relentless creatures may be terrifying in concept, the reality is such a shambling creature would never have the power to infect the world. When the waves of fast moving zombies struck the world, I finally saw why people like zombie movies. Something that will keep coming after you, is stronger and faster than you, and driven only by its hunger...that's scary.

I thought, at first, you said "Fat" zombies. :D

OT: I prefer slow zombies, because fast zombies can mutilate you in seconds. There's really no point at trying, if they are fast.
I like the Zombie Survival guide and feel Rob Zombie should read it before fucking up another zombie movie. In it it describes WHY slow moving zombies first off move slow, WHY people can still get killed by them and not even notice their existence until it's too late, and they go into WHY hitting em in the head is much harder then hollywood movies make it.

I like in Shuan of The Dead (The only modern zombie movie I like honestly) the zombies moved slow, but it was the stupidity of the humans at hand who tried either to know it all, or let their own fear get the best of them. And I also loved how the army had little problem with the zombies, while the normal folk were easily torn to shreads since they lacked military training (I hated how in Dawn of The Dead (New one) rob zombies movies period.. and even resident evil where ALL military personal suffered plot relevant bouts of retardation...)

Well, most of the fast zombies now are more of "Infected" people instead of the classic "reanimated dead" zombies. That's the difference.

So technically, I still think there's only one type of zombie: a slow one.

Slow zombies.

When you get surrounded by 500 of them, you have a solid 30 seconds to think about your oncoming death and cry, as well as the possibility to get rescued at the 29th second as the zombies are only meters away from you and reaching out to eat you.
This makes it a lot more dramatic.

The slow zombies like to eat you and the fast ones want to beat you to death, so I prefer the slow ones. Just give me a good machine gun and unlimited ammo and I'm good.

I prefer varying zombies. Fresh zombies can run. Old Zombies can't due to loss of muscle tissue, due to the whole rotting thing.

I like a mixture, fast zombies make scary films and awesome games like L4D. Slow zombies are so much better if it were to ever happen...easier to kill lol :p
