slow at first than work your way up to fast, and don't forget zombie killin' rule #1: SAVE THE LAST BULLET FOR YE SELF.
Amen dude.

Ever seen the original Day of the Dead? Probably the most horrifying death scenes i've ever seen in my life although it's pretty sweet when a man's reaction to his legs being torn off is to shout "CHOKE ON 'EM"

He forgot rule #1 you see

I think as a general rule of thumb for whether they are fast or slow is whether it was caused by a disease like 28 days later or l4d (fast zombie) or if it is magic or use of a certain necronomicon like in many rpgs like Oblivion. I personally like the ones in oblivion as they are very much undead and in general tanks, slow but can take a lot of hits. The ones in Half-life 2 are a good mix of fast and slow.

well if you go on a physical basis zombies couldn't run because they are rotting flesh which means their musciles will rot and therer for cannot run. But the fast moving zombies are cooler startling horror so i like fast-moving better

i say fast because if i had to get away from the slow ones i would just run in slow motion to mock them. all i would have to do is not be a idiot and i would live. now fast zombies would be more of a "oh shit im going to die" then "oh no, the slugs will die". i prefer horror then been board.

I find that slow zombies are part of the overarching theme of a zombie flick. Running zombies just feel like another random monster that happens to outnumber you.

Slow zombies offer something that fast zombies don't. Dread. See the fast ones make your adrenaline spike and you move your ass to compensate. Slow Zombies let you think, let that adrenaline bleed off and you realize the futility of it all.

Fast zombies are sudden death, which is fine and I can appreciate them for that. However, slow zombies are the slow kill. They are psychological torture. Run forever and it still doesn't matter. The rabbit can't run forever and then the tortoise will tear your skin off while you muster the energy to scream in your exhaustion.

So yea, it depends on what kind of horror you want. Despair or shock tactics, both are valid but I prefer old school dread. I never got nightmares from the fast zombies but I did from the slow dread of shambling death since it meant futility.
I agree with what this guy is saying, personally I'm more inclined to liking the slower zombies, but for this to really give you despair, you need a vast number of them, in the sense that no matter how many you kill, there's another fifty still inching towards you. That and I just find the slower zombies slightly more realistic (despite the fact they are zombies lol).

i feel the real qustion is smart, slow zombies (ex: the zombie from day of the dead who could use a weapon) or dumb, rude, fast zombies (28 days later) but in terms of being scared, fast zombies, espically if yor fat (like me) you would the first one to go down

Fast zombies aren't as scary for me.

Slow zombies just keep trickling up. They slowly get to you. You know your death is inevitable, but you can't just sit and let them overtake you. It'd be terrible.

I prefer the Slow Moving since the fast can't tire so the slow give us a chance of survival like in World War Z by Mark Brooks. I like the zombie wars/stories that give Humans a chance to survive

Slow zombies, it always seemed strange to me how people with rotting flesh and missing arms and missing toes could run so fast!

Fast zombies= no go!

Fast Zombies: Fun in video games, but keep them out of movies.

Isn't this situational? When someone first turns into a zombie then they have just died moments ago. They won't have had enough time to rot and would be spry. As time goes on they will rot and will have to slow down. Eventually limbs will fall off and they may be reduced to crawling or being motionless until they finally become fertilizer.

why not have both? in Dead Rising there we heaps of slow ones peppered with a few fast ones to keep you on your toes
