All great stuff, but I can't believe there is not more love for NWN. That game had it all. D&D 3.0 ruleset, toolset to make your own modules, server (even a linux version!!) so you could self-host multiplayer games, a DM client to run just like table top, scripting and databases to run persistent worlds. Then for good measure, you had a HUGE community building new modules or hosting their own worlds. I must have played that game for at least five years. I would still play it today had the people at Obsidian not destroyed multi-player in NWN2.

Baldur's Gate 1 & 2, and NwN would have to be my favorite. Mass Effect was probably my least favorite one.

Played and loved Mass Effect, Jade Empire and Dragon-age, and dragon-age definitely takes the cake.

I also agree with you about jade empire feeling a little weird compared to the others but it might just be the kung fu focus or very small party system.

Are you serious? KOTOR 2 couldn't hold a candle to the first one. Maybe if it was complete it would've but the developer (Obsidian) even said they cut a lot out due to time constraints. IMO it just felt so incomplete and chock full of holes.

Yeah, but I don't blame Obsidian too much for Lucasarts insisting on a Christmas release. Story was better and made me question every decision, characters were better, and Kreia had such a disturbing plan.

Arg,so hard to choose.....
I'm going with Mass effect.
Sure they are all epic games,I have about 60 hours dumped in DA:O,the visuals of Jade Empire is nothing short of extraordinary and BG2 is probably the best RPG ever made.

BUT,You don't get to ride around in a badass ship with a crippled comedian as a pilot and bitchslapping reporters who get too nosy.
Actually hearing my character speaking might also have something to do with it.

I'm going with KOTOR. Dragon Age came close but KOTOR was one of my favorite games of all time. I remember having fun with Baldur's Gate too but I haven't played that game in so long that I don't remember the gameplay.

Knights of the Old Republic (KotOR) is my vote.
It had some of the best writing and music I've ever seen in a game, coupled with phenomenal voice acting and excellent graphics. The gameplay itself feels restrictive, but the environments themselves make up for the lack of immersion. I truly did not see the major plot twist coming.
Also, this game (to my knowledge) was the first to really use the moral choice system, and it actually used it well. At times, neutrality was the most powerful tool.
The sequel had much more refined battle system, and the mentor character was fantastic, but the plot overall felt like it was trying so hard to be complex that it all fell through.

Mass Effect is also fantastic if you want something less strategy oriented and more Gears-of-War-shooter style.

Also, KotOR is only $10 on Steam right now. I'd jump at the opportunity.

Baldur's Gate II - it's really not fair putting anything else in a list with that and then asking me to vote you know.

KOTOR. Followed closely by Mass Effect.

Mass Effect WOULD be #1 if it had better sidequests...KOTOR has great sidequests and thats what I love the most out of all RPGs...the ability to go on a sidequest whenever the hell I want!
