I'd be tied completely between Zack, Yuffie and Reno...
Except that none of them are on there...

To be honest none of FFVII's characters ever really did much for me, in fact while I liked the world it took place in I didn't really appreciate the story much. If I had to choose a character though it would be Barret, got me through many a tough scrape.

Zack fair, he was just made of win. Very human and well developed, and despite knowing his fate, it was still a sad scene to watch. Aerith's death had NOTHING on Zaks

Cloud - Generic animu hero with an emo streak
Sephiroth - Prettyboy fangirl-bait villain
Tifa - She was alright, bit cliché with the whole childhood friend deal but not bad
Aeris - Boring white mage type
Barret - He's a walking stereotype, but kinda funny
Vincent - See Sephiroth, but in stead of "villain", read "mysterious antihero"
Cid - The old (compared to the teenagers that make up most of the party) guy. Made of equal parts badass and cliché.
Red XIII - Some kind of magic talking dog, wtf is this doing in my party?
Cait Sith - See Red, but read "cat" in stead of "dog". And at least Red wasn't useless.
Yuffie - Shut up. Stay away from my magics. Don't touch me.
Zack - "Don't mind me, I'm just Square's (Squeenix', whatever) way of saying they still like your money."
Everyone else - Noone cares. Shut up.

Overall, Cid gets my nod.

I'd have to go with Aeris myself.

An enigmatic girl whose sweet natured affection towards Cloud was cut short when she gladly, and without hesitation, gave her life in order to save the planet. Further, it's suggested at the end that she knew how the whole story was going to play out from the beginning. She's, like, Anime Girl Jesus. ;P

Out of that list it's a toss-up between Tifa and Vincent, but I voted Vincent (though seeing the lack of tifa love makes me wish i'd voted for her).

But if I wasn't confined to the list, I'd say reno. =]

I really liked them all, but I'll have to go with Cloud since he's the one I feel like I can relate most to (aside from pretty much his entire life story). If this was about your favourite Final Fantasy character in general - including villains that is, I'd have a much harder time.

I'll have to go with Sqaull from FFVIII as my overall favourite character though...

Wait no, Auron from FFX was kickass too...

Oh, but then there's the awesomeness that was Faris, the Pirate Captain from FFV...

What about .......... Biggs and Wedge?

Seriously?

The only character with worse limit breaks was Cait freakin' Sith.

Sure, they looked pretty neat, but that's all.

Well it looked awesome, and I am fascinated by shiny and awesome objects.
And besides, his badassness redeems it don't you think?

Heh. Well, personally I was less than impressed by his particular brand of 'badassness', but that's a matter of taste. I do agree that his limits looked cool at least. I just didn't find them very effective, gameplay-wise.

Sephiroth, i know he's a mommy's boy but his persona as a villain really worked for the game and he had a great look about him too.
