Soap? The guy doesn't have a personality! He doesn't have a face nor a single line of dialogue! Same goes for Paul Jackson.

The best character in any game is April Ryan. End of thread. She's sometimes funny, always witty, courageous, driven, determined, and has an amazing evolution over two games, from a happy but confused April to a serious, pragmatic April.

PD, I'm not really that close-minded. I love seeing who people think is the best character and why.

Link all the way . . . he was the first character I played and thus will always have a special place in my heart . . . and he rides a horse which kicks ass!
You're a fellow horse rider, I see.
That wins you extra points. Like, a million.

And Altaiir wrong, too.
And so did you ^^
The correct Arabic name is Altaïr.
I do not have umlauts. You can write it both Altaïr (copy-paster your) or Altaiir to show the change in the sound.

Same as you can (in German) write double-S instead of that B umlaut. Because those are the same sounds.

I did not know that, that's really interesting.
Sadly I don't know any German, only Spanish and English. In Spanish we use the umlaut in güi and güe words. Without the umlaut, they sound like "gih" and "geh". With the umlaut, the sound becomes "gwih" and "gweh". It's also used in poetry to indicate that you should omit the dyphtong to keep the metric.

You don't have to explain Spanish to me, I'm pretty advanced. Mainly because except for H, J, l-doble and Y, we have identical letters, and I think only there are few minor details (gue/ge, gi/gui, que/qui, cue/ce and so on). It's really easy to study Spanish once you know Polish ;p At least when it comes to speaking, because there are more words similar in English than Polish.

But still, yeah, umlauts in Spanish make some words plausible to write correctly. Gue and güe are not the same.

I don't know any of the rules for Polish, but just from seeing it written and and hearing it spoken, I want to learn. It has a lovely sound.

The correct Arabic name is Altaïr.
All arabic words, when translated into english are spelled phonetically, and therefore there are a great many correct spellings. Example: Muhammad, Mohammad, Mohommed and so forth.

The general format (and this is VERY general) for an arabic name is <Father's Name> , and it can quickly get quite complex. A well known example is Saddam Hussein al-Tikritti.

Altaïr Ibn La-Ahad is the full name of the character, and if I'm not mistaken it translates into (roughly) Altair - Bird (it's closer to flier actually, i'm always fuzzy on context here)Ibn (son) la-Ahad (of none).

All that said, none of the characters listed are really my "favorites". I'd probably go with Garret from Thief for my favorite of all time.

Of those? CJ.

I don't think Link is actually a character fit for this poll, as he doesn't really...talk or anything. Same with Soap.

Earthworm Jim, Solid Snake, Guybrush Threepwood (just for the name :), or Bubsy the Bobcat. Only joking, scratch that last one!

I believe that pronunciation would sound like Master "Schkeif", and thus, he is a Nazi. (Not master Chief, but master cheif)
...

You did not just pull Godwin's Law in a thread about favorite video game characters....<_<

To stay on point, I like Link. Ocarina of Time has a special place in my heart.

None of the above. My personal favorite is Gordan Freeman. Yes, he is a dumb mute, but he is my dumb mute.

Of those listed, Link. It takes effort to get a player to care about a mute hero, but I'll be damned if I don't feel like a hero every time I beat a Zelda game.

These are quite possibly the worst characters you could have chosen for this poll, they all have minimal characterization (don't know about Link, never played any of the games properly). I'll go with Soap though, because of the name and he was in Mile high Club... best level ever... on veteran... drools... Character's not on the list, I'd have to say Jak from Jak and Daxter 1-3

Andrew Ryan. He is delightfully evil and he wants you to (SPOILER) put a putter in his brain
