This is a poll to tally what type of game people love. Vote for your favorite, specify any particular sub-group (Shooter-FPS, third-person; RPG-Japanese, MMO, Western, action RPG; fighting game-2d, 3d; etc) and elaborate as much as possible about why you like that type of game. Also, if you dont see a certain major genre in the options, tell me so and I'll add it.
My favorite is shooter-FPS. I'll explain why later.

EDIT: I have added Sports and Adventure games. Please specify between action adventure and point-and-click, and if you have a favorite sport (basketball, soccer, wrestling) go ahead and tell us which one.

I'm into Shooters (Half-Life 2, BioShock, Gears of War), RPGs (Oblivion, Age of Conan), and RTS games (Command & Conquer, Dune II, Starcraft, Age of Empires)

My favorite is definately RTS because it's such a complicated genre with so many different things... but that can be bad, too, cause it's hard to get it right (look at the piece of crap that is Command & Conquer 3)

I've said it in the past, but despite my recent transfer from RPG to shooter in terms of genre, there is no beating Star Ocean the second story as my favorite game ever.

JRPGs own my video game library. Honestly they make up like three quarters of all the games I have, and while some are utter turds others are like the second coming of Jesus to me. Second is usually action games with only a few shooters finding a place in my library.

RTS. Probably because one of the first games I ever played properly was Red Alert. Always been a fan of them ever since.

RPG because I love a good story and the character building aspects but then again I like any game that chucks in something like experience points and upgrading your character.

Like what? I've already got shooters, racers, and fighters, doesnt that pretty much cover the "action" group?

I shall add adventure to the list and ask to specify between action adventure and point and click adventure.

Everything bar sports, which I see you've not got there anyhow, so yay ^^
Humm, can't think of the last puzzle game I played the wasn't free, Portal maybe...vaguely.

And why huh? Well, why not? I don't like to limit myself, and, although I'm sure there are -some- good sports based games out there, it's not something that interests me, either in electronic form or real life, so I don't have to feel bad about missing such a small portion of the great gaming library overall. Other than that, almost everything is worth a look in.

I play more FPSs now (I'm looking at you, Team Fortress 2), but I still love me a good RTS.

RTS. A good RTS contains everything from economics to vicious fighting on an unprecedented scale. They range from fighting single battles (World in Conflict, for example) to charting the course of entire galaxies (like Sins of a Solar Empire).

Shooters comes in second, but only if it's a really good shooter.

While I am a hardcore shooter junkie, deep down inside my love will always be for those old Point and Click games. (also the "type what you will do: TALK TO MAN" games)
King's Quest
Quest for Glory
Myst
Monkey Island
I just recently played DOTT, and loved it. Before Yahtzee suggested it my main PaC games came from Sierra. Now I can enjoy Sam and Max and all those Lucasarts classics I missed.

There is now no more room in the poll, please do not ask me to add more options. Besides, Im pretty sure I got all the major ones.

I'm a fan of all role-playing games. I've been a creative kid my whole life, so being able to customize your characters, picking and choosing the right equipment for the right job just makes me gush with joy.

I'm also a huge fan of RTS games, because strategy plays into the same category. You pick where to put buildings and what kind of units to build.

Honestly, any game where you can pick or choose how you want to play is my favourite game, putting RPG at the top of my list.

I love JRPGs... And I really don't know why D:

For example, I love the Xenosaga trilogy but like-- 70% of the game is cutscene. Really, it's little more than a movie with interactive commercials when you think about it, but I love it all the same. I guess it's because the stories they tell are so compelling, and that's really what JRPGs focus on.

Aside from that, RTS like Starcraft and fantasy/sci-fi action/adventure games are the other big ones I get into.
