I've always been a huge fan of the ODST armor from the Halo series. It just seems really functional, and like something that we could actually see in combat in at some point in the future.

Nano suit. I'm all for practical and the Nano suit is nothing if not practical. Why is the HEV suit orange? isn't that like painting a giant bullseye on your back? Same is true for Samus, the other ones are too big and bulky, the only one which also makes sense is the Halo-suit, but that doesn't turn invisible.

Sure, but if anything being in a gigantic heavy set of armor would only lessen your chances of survival. Surviving a fall is all about dissipating the energy over the longest time possible. The nanosuit is in this regard the best armor of all, consisting of synthetic muscle and not being very heavy.

The key would be the ratio of the strength of synthetic muscles/servos to the suit's weight. The higher it is, the higher your chances of surviving a long fall.

And sure, the nanosuit is vulnerable to small arms fire but if a suit of armor has enough armor to become fully invulnerable to it then it's still vulnerable to anti-tank weaponry and explosives while losing a lot of mobility.
exactly the problem with the nano-suit is it is flexible, an it will bend if it falls or gets knocked around by explosions or large pieces of shrapnel your bones will not, unfortunately i don't argue with it having the better mobility and choice of tactical role, in fact i believe i already stated as much the problem is whilst is is vastly superior to, it does not make you immune to infantry and that is kind-of the point of a super-suit in my opinion, why let your prey have any reasonable chance of hurting you?
if they would just armour plate a nano-suit and add the adaptive camouflage and crystal armour tech over the top it would clearly be better than any offerings here

mabye crytek will make a tank suit for an upcoming game and throw you into an alien hive then make you fight hunters the entire game, that would make it the best :D

as to anti tank mines or ultra heavy weapons, well that is the answer to any platform isn't it, you can never truly be invincible but you can armour yourself against the biggest gun someone can plausibly carry, and i suppose that would be a rocket launcher, so you want military grade cattle-grids over your exoskeleton to pre-detoate them the same way modern army vehicles do
at the end of the day you can just build a bigger gun it's impossible to win that argument really as it will just devolve into
'meh, i just fire the chaos weapon at your planet, it's powered by a belt of suns constrained by black holes' 'shrug'

I'm going to have to say the N7 armour. It's futuristic, sleek and above all - it's just kick ass. I mean come on, if you walk up to somebody wearing that, they know you mean business. Plus you can try to pass as Commander Shepard, the baddest mofo in the galaxy ^^.

interesting lineup, i imagine the nanosuit is the most advanced in terms of tactical options, however it's probably the most squishy aswell
It's not that the nanosuit is squishy, it's that people are.

based on what i see here, i think i'd pick the imperial power armour purely because if someone in a nano-suit tried to stealth-kill me he'd have a face full of hmg goodness or just be crushed like a bug i mean the damn thing has jaws of life for fingers for cryi'n out loud
Why would a nanosuit operator try to kill you if he can avoid you altogether?

the nano-suit cannot survive falls of more than about 2 floors unless you impact something to dampen the fall, cannot take punches to the face ( from normal people ) small arms fire and is eaten alive by sniper and hmg rounds and is crippled entirely by tazers because the electrical impulses that control it constrict the microfibres and crush the occupier
all of those examples are cannon in the games so-far

i do not see this as a stable weapons platform

sure, a nano-suit operator can sneak past you if you are not paying attention but to what end?
killing someone in their sleep when they take off their armour is hardly an indication that you have the better equipment
that's just following the art of war mantra of the only way to win the fight is to avoid it

You may say that, but consider this; the MJOLNIR armour from the Halo series can survive a fall from orbit, completely protecting its occupant from both the atmospheric friction of re-entry, and the, well, terminal velocity collision with the ground. The suit's energy field (powered by a built in fusion reactor) prevents the occupant from being cooked alive by the heat, and the hydrostatic gel sandwiched between the inner and outer layers of the suit dampens the shock of impact by varying its density, eventually becoming completely solid and 'locking up' the suit to prevent the occupant from breaking any limbs upon impact. This significantly reduces the amount of force the user is exposed to upon impact.

Technically speaking, the Mark V and VI MJOLNIR armour (the final two variants of the suit, and the only two seen to survive re-entry) aren't actually rated for atmospheric re-entry (the never-completed follow up model, the Mark VII was intended to have that capability), and it is likely that, without some degree of luck, the occupant would be killed in the attempt. Still, the fact that two Spartans have managed the feat and survived with no, or at least, relatively minor injuries is pretty impressive.

In case you hadn't guessed, my favourite is the MJOLNIR armour :), but the N7 comes in a very close second.

It can turn invisible, if you have the right armour ability equipped, and the strength and armour stuff come built-in. And though this isn't really demonstrated in the games, it can certainly manage speed as well; the Chief's highest known speed is 50MPH, though he did strain a few muscles getting there.

And the HEV suit's orange because, for a suit intended to be used by research teams working with dangerous compounds or in hazardous environments (hence Hazardous Environment suit), being extremely visible is an advantage, rather than a disadvantage; you want your fellow researchers to be able to spot you easily, so they can render assistance should you encounter trouble.

As much as I love Half Life, I can't choose it as being "Iconic" mainly because most of the time you don't actually see the armour.

Space Marine armour from Warhammer 40k get's my vote because once you see it, it sticks in your head.

Nanosuit for sure. It has such an impact on the gameplay in Crysis 2. Aparently you can do even more with it in Crysis 1. In fact the nanosuit powers were really all that was keeping the Crysis 2 multiplayer from just being a complete cod ripoff.
