Garrus, because he was the only character who I felt really addressed the core renegade-vs-paragon theme of the game. Plus, I thought all the turians looked cool, so that probably helped.

Originally my squad was Liara and Ashley, but when I found out that Ashley was a racist, it became Liara and Wrex, I usually try to have a good balance of Tech/Biotic/Combat which means my squad is like this:
Shepard: Tech
Liara: Biotic
Wrex: Combat
In my eyes its the perfect team. Oh and by the way, just because Tali can have more shields than an adolesant priestess-in-training has on her vagina, it doesn't mean she is good! All the tech abilities are generally useless and you can't make her open locked boxes for you so what use is she other than a human shield with a shitty pistol/shotgun?

Wrex for me. There was a lot more to him than first meets the eye, and he got some of the best lines in the whole game.

Most people seem to be of the opinion that she's utterly devoid of personality, and I resent that.
I always thought of her as an adult Lisa Simpson. And if that isn't an attractive prospect, I don't know what is.
As for Ashley, I always leave her to rot on Virmire.

How is that? The US would do the same to the UK and vise-versa, its not the fact that they are aliens, its more about how they are the equivalent to different countries today, the same way you wouldn't bet it all another country wont back stab you today.Jonesy911 said:

A face would be nice. /jk I really did like Tali, except that quarian armour is so hard to find, that's what makes her so squishy. Once I got her Colossus X from the dlc mission she became much better. Tali + Liara + Soldier Shepard = perfect team.Nmil-ek said:

Tali'Zorah nar Rayya, followed by Wrex, Ashley, Garrus, Kaidan and Liara in that order.
I don't know why, but Tali always seems to survive longer than my other characters in a fight, even though I know that should not statistically be so. She has "died" only twice in ten-or-so play throughs with her, many of them on insanity and all of them from level 1. I also like her character and her conversations. I can't wait to see how she has developed in Mass Effect 2.
Wrex is a badass. He also seems to survive longer than the others, bar Tali. It's a shame he gets the short end of the stick when it comes to biotics (no lift or singularity, though barrier is pretty good). His character is also pretty interesting.
Ashley may have xenophobia issues, but she at least tries to justify it. Depending on the conversation choices you make she looks like she is trying to drop her perceptions. Also, to me at least, she appears to survive almost as long as Wrex.
Garrus is turian, which automatically makes him cool. However, he seems a bit too easily swayed sometimes, which makes me think he might be a bit insecure. I don't like how easy it seems to be to get him to change his mind on things, but it is good character development never the less. However, on the battlefield though he always seems to die. In every battle I fight I can be assured Garrus will go down 50% of the time.
Kaidan is okay. His character is alright, but there isn't much room for development. It seems he would rather tell stories than actually have a conversation. I don't really use him in battle either.
I don't really like Liara. She seems too easy to romance, has the worst (in my opinion) character development and her voice seems to annoy me. I'll admit, she is a terror on the battlefield though.
