Coming off a resurgence in my personal affinity for the Pokemon Series after being away from the series for about 8 years I have been immersing myself in the fandom quite a bit. Knowing very little about it coming back in, I was surprised at the sheer amount of new games and pokemon to go with. Because of this, I began to wonder what people's favorites were.

Personally, I've found that Emerald (the version that I'm going through right now) is a vast improvement upon Crystal (the first pokemon game I played). I haven't played any other games so I may be limited in viewrange, but I'm absolutely loving Emerald.

As for pokemon, I've always loved the abra family. While I could never get my hands on an Alakazam (damn trading evolutions), I love my kadabra and generally base my team around him as the pillar.

For the team, I usually have the fire starter for the game, a kadabra, a rock or steel pokemon, a bird of some sort (preferably a dual type), a water type of some sort, and either a legendary pokemon or a grass type to round out the team. I like multipurpose teams.

So, what are your favorite pokemon/genration/game/team?

I've always had a soft spot for Haunter, I like his design a lot more than Gengar.

My teams usually include the starter, something that can use Fly, Gyarados/Milotic, a Psychic/Dark type/Haunter, a Legendary or Pseudo-Legendary, and something else that generally has a high Attack or Special Attack value. It depends mostly on the Generation for me.

In Gen I, I ran most often with Haunter, Gyarados, Pidgeot/Articuno, Dugtrio, the starter, and a random sixth.

In Gen II, my team was much the same but with Tyranitar instead of Dugtrio.

In Gen III, my team fluctuated pretty frequently. I usually ended up with the starter, Latias/Latios, Groudon/Kyogre, Metagross, Milotic, and swapped between Aggron, Flygon, Armaldo, Absol, and Salamence.

Gen II line-up: my fire starter jack-of-all-trades Cyndaquil, a Pidgey as my lancer and a Geodude as my tank. Later on I'd level them up to Typhlosion, Pidgeott and Graveler (damn trades) respectively, while adding Abra>Kadabra and Mareep/Ampharos for diversity and elementary attacks. Last slot would go to the Red Gyarados, invariably, while I'd switch Pidgeott with my winged Togetic at some point. So I more or less covered the basic elements in my line-up (fire, normal, rock, electric, water and psychic), and with their powers combined I pretty much had every HM available on me at any point.

Sapphire for me. G/S is a really close second, but I remember R&S completely flooring me when it came out. The graphics, the pokemon, the story... all of it was just so epic. I think it came out at the perfect age for me too. I was, like, 12 at the time, so I still had that childlike wonder for a game's world, but was old enough to actually plan and execute effective strategies, instead of leveling up my starter +30 levels higher then the competition and having the rest of my team be filler.

I really enjoyed the remake of Gold/Silver in Gen IV - that was the game that kinda got me back into things. Black and White were also interesting, but I found it hard to kinda get into the new species they had floating around in the tall grass. They just don't seem to have the same amount of appeal. =/

That said, my team tries to combine some of my oldschool favourites with the newer species in Gen V. I'm working with:

Samurott
Magmortar
Steelix
Galvantula
Crobat
Glaceon

Heart Gold and Soul Silver are my favorite unless we count Black and Black 2 together, as I really like the continuation of the story.
Also my favorite normal Pokemon would be Glaceon, and my favorite Legendary is Giratina. I am listing both of those as I can't decide which one I like more.

I always really liked Golduck. But I find most of the dual psychic types interesting. Like Exeggutor or Slowbro.
Gen II was my favourite. Felt like a proper sequel. Having both Kanto and Johto was impressive when I first played Silver.

Grew up on Gen 2, Crystal specifically, and no Pokemon game has come close to replacing what that game was to me. I have very fond memories of discovering Tyranitar, training endlessly for a Dragonite, beating Whitney. I still remember exactly where I was and what I was doing the first time I beat Lance, and I still remember just why my Cyndaquil was nicknamed Sin.

I don't know what it is about Generation 5, but I just REALLY love the designs for so many of them.

Gosh I like Chandelure, Reuniclus, Zoroark, Deerling, like...I can't just PICK a favorite from that game. I love so many of them.
I know I'm a minority in the fanbase when it comes to this opinion. I really do. Especially since I grew up around Generation 1 and 2, but...aaaaaahhh

I mean Woobat is based off the Honduras bats, and those are the cutest little critter to ever exist! Like seriously

I've come to absolutely love the gen 5 games, particularly the original Black and White. The story felt interesting and actually begged the question about Pokemon abuse in the universe, plus I liked the whole dual heroes plot. Lots of people give the Gen 5 Pokemon so much smack, but I've come to love them as much as the original 151 if not more.

I favorite is Reshiram(the mascot of Black) because we finally got a real fire/dragon type and I love its appearance and learn set, and it has a fairly interesting story to it along with its counterpart Zekrom.

As for a dream team: Reshiram, Charizard, Samurott, Serperior, Giratina, and Lucario. I should point out this is purely for playing the games, I don't do competitive battles.

I absolutely agree that so many people overlook the great gen 5 designs, and it's sad that there are "genwunners" since I grew up with the originals too.

Gen 2 will always be my favorite, probably since it was my first Pokemon game (I had been a fan for some time though), and I spent so much time with it (probably over 200 hours). I remember that I had intended to start with Chikorita, but accidentally picked Cyndaquill. But boy am I glad I got her. However, since I was little, I wasn't terribly good at it and wasn't very smart (I tended to just use their moves in order without using any strategy, which led me to lose often), and I failed to get the version mascot (I accidentally KO'd Lugia, but I didn't save prior to the fight [again, I was quite dumb], so I turned off the game and could never find Lugia again). In the original Silver, my team consisted of:
Typhlosion
Pigeot
Gyarados
Raiku
Amphros
Donphan

So naturally, its remake I loved so much (wasn't happy that I couldn't get my Donphan though, the new female player character, or fully understood why they threw in Crystal's plot point of Suicune), and so SoulSilver is probably my favorite of all the games. I even tried to keep things similar to my Silver play (used the male player character, started with a female Cyndaquill, and I tried to keep to my original team) because nostalgia. My team in that was:
Typhlosion
Pigeot
Gyarados
Amphoros
Golem
Alakazam

If this comes out as a rambling mess, I apologize because I am sleepy and hungry.

Silver is the game I have the most personal attachment to, having sunk the most time into it as a kid by far compared to the other games, but for the sake of objectivity I'll point to Crystal as the superior game. (Either way, Gen II is totally the king.) I have a special fondness for legendaries, so it should come as little surprise given my gameplay history that Lugia is my favorite Pokemon, especially given that great mix of bird, dolphin, and dragon in its design. Plus, Aeroblast is just awesome. My favorite team I ever had was my original one from Silver, which featured Typhlosion, Lugia, Ho-oh, Tyranitar, Suicune, and a shiny Gyarados (you know the one) all at level 100 (which I totally didn't do by exploiting any glitches involving Rare Candies) - not an amazingly balanced team, but deeply satisfying to own. However, an honorable mention must go to Yellow for providing the sheer iconicity (and comparatively great balance) offered by a team of Pikachu, Venusaur, Charizard, Blastoise, Mew, and an Articuno to round it out.

Golduck isn't psychic though...

I prefer Heart Gold and Soul Silver. Two regions, 16 gyms, improved Elite Four after beating the Kanto leaders, an on/off button for running, rematches with leaders, event to get Celebi with an interesting story connected to it.

It was a great remake to couple of already great games. My favourite would be Dragonite... because he's a dragon.

If come at me with a poorly made team, you will be destroyed in minutes. This team not only destroys rain teams, it makes rain teams it's *****. Dugtrio traps and kills T-tar who brings the sandstorm.
