I normaly use Turrets to build a massive shield. I build up a massive force behind my lines and then steam roll over the map, destroying everything in my way, while laughing Insane Villian style

I often just sneak or out-micromanage the enemy, throwing artillery somewhere so they are distracted and then steamroll their base :)

I like playing "Drop Ship Commandos" with marines in Starcraft and dropping them on poorly defending auxiliary bases.

Violent settler ftw.

I've only played advance wars and i tend to build a good blockade around my bases and cities with tanks in the front and artillery in the back then I just save up and buy a bunch of the strongest units and slaughter them

Control.

Superior field command. Spread out fast and control the map, capture all resources and apply constant minimal pressure on the enemy. They fall into a turtle and are already dead by that point, as I have the position, the resources, and the numbers. No 'turtle-rush' has a chance in any decently designed RTS, as it comes out of the gates to meet a bigger force waiting with the high ground.

As well as that, I try to be the best for individual battles. Flanking enemy units, having flying companies (not literally flying, but if I can get those I will) ready to swing any skirmish in my favour and just all round making sure I have control. Hence, in DoW I play eldar for the utterly unstoppable warp spiders and in AoE/EE I play cavalry armies who can pick their battles.

Surrender control, and you have surrendered. Lose the initiative and you have already lost.

I do that on DOW with space Marines
Except I build a Turtle than Assign my commander units to the Grey Knights and Terminators than drop them in on their command post XP

5 words...
Space Marine Orbital Deep Strike(S.M.O.D.S)
I keep my impregnable turtle than stuff the elite Marines(above) into The Drop Buildings.
Than I sneak a few scout craft out and jump them into your base and than drop my big guns and start Smashing everything within reach.
Smash, Rinse, Repeat as necessary

Engineer here.

Thanks for the base.

What do you mean "Your base?"
Ah, I loved the Engineers in Dune 2000. Especially when fighting against everyone else.

Nothing like crushing everyone on the map by leading with Death's Head missiles, followed by a combined force of Fremen, Destroyer, Deviator, and Sonic tanks, Raiders, and Sardaukar while destroying turrets with saboteurs and sending in ornithopter air support!

"Unique technology? HA!"

I always focus on getting a strong economy going first. A strong economy allows a player to choose their strategy. You can't turtle if you can't afford the turrets or power to run them. You can't rush if you can't afford more than a few measly units to defend your base, and you can't build another base if you can't afford to build buildings.

I'm a resource whore. Having the $$$ is the key to fighting a war. Those who can afford to win, will.

I favor what I call the "American" strategy. I build up a large air force as well as artillery units and make sure I have every available off screen weapon. I then procede to pummel enemy bases into oblivion with airstrikes and artillery barrages until I believe it is safe enough to send a few ground units to clear out any last pockets of resistance.
You just reminded me of my favorite strategy for playing Supreme Commander. It doesn't work on online games because they never last long enough for this to work, but in Supreme Commander: Forged Alliance, this works really well against the AI since the artillary can actually shoot all the way across most maps (at tech level 3). It's aslo easy to churn out vast numbers (400 to 500+) of air units and rain fire from the sky.

I'm best at resource management, which works better in turn based strategy. For RTS, I usually use a combination of turtle defense, then rush. Though, depending on the game, I may attack openly and rapidly without defending (Starcraft, frequently. Not Zerg rush, I suck at zerg; more like Siege Tank rush). Since this was mentioned, I actually liked Dawn of War 2, particularly because I love squad combat games, at least in concept, and haven't found one I liked since X-Com: Apocalypse.

For attacks, I prefer flexible attacks the most because they're the hardest to defend against; probe the enemy defenses and find a weak point, then exploit it. I'm also a big fan of distraction and harassing tactics. I'm not the best at it, but my favorite is always bunker-busting; that is, when someone sets up a turtle defense and you blast right through it.

Or just distract the enemy and build a crapload of Battlecruisers. That's always good too.

I always lose, though. Seriously, I'm really crap at RTS games.
Turtles are destined to lose every game they play, you can't keep up your defenses forever, your gonna run out of resources.
Depends on the game. In some maps in Total Annihilation, turtle was the ONLY way to win. And because of how that game is set up, resources are unlimited; it just takes time. Those maps are always on Core Prime, so there's no need to explore for resources, just build. It usually ends up whoever gets a nuke silo built first wins, though air attacks can do the trick too if they don't build enough defenses.
