Asimov. If the list were expanded, he'd be behind Arthur C. Clarke.

NO PHILIP K DICK?!

I cannot answer with them not present, it would kill me to do it.

Between only those famous authors, which one, does your mind admires the most?
and say why please?
No Phillip K. Dick, but you included Asimov? Why don't you just throw in L. Ron Hubbard, while you're at it?

You scar me, sir :)

HG Wells, mainly for War of the Worlds, The Invisible Man and the Time Machine.

Reminds me i've still got to get through the island of Dr. What's-his-face-that-gene-splices

Well, of those it'd have to be H.G. Wells.

But outside of that massive array of options you've so kindly given us /sarcasm (Let me guess, those are your favorites...), I would choose either Douglas Adams or Peter F. Hamilton
I've just finished Pandora's Star and am just starting Judas Unchained. I quite enjoy Hamilton's writing.

you know.. i know the guy was batshit crazy, but the mission earth series was quite good, it was fun reading a book where the protagonist was the bad guy, and the good guy was so good that you hated him.

LOVECRAFT. IS. NOT. SCIENCE. FICTION. Lovecraft is horror/cosmicism; some of his stories have aspects of sci-fi or "the future" and accompanying technology, but those are not nearly as many. Hell, Lovecraft is more gothic than sci-fi. Excuse me while I go rage in the corner. (I do fucking love Lovecraft, though, but he's not sci-fi)

For real sci-fi, I'd say Ursula LeGuin if she counts (some of her stories are doubtlessly sci-fi, but some admittedly aren't), but otherwise, Arthur C. Clarke. Whom you left off the poll choices :)

HG Wells out of those purely for the arcticulate way he presents his descriptions of things that well, quite frankly didn't even exist back then. He really made you believe he knew the workings of machinery back then, that still to this day hasn't even been invented!
Pure genius, with a bit of the old english tongue thrown in. Just brilliant.
Also, I get that you're only doing classic writers, but I'm still peeved that Crichton and the Strugatsky's weren't given an honourable mention.

None of them. (don't believe that I've read any of their works.)

But for sci fi that I have read, I have to pick Drew Karpyshyn (the Mass Effect series) and Greg Rucka (the Perfect Dark series)

Of those listed, I'd go with Asimov, but my favourite sci-fi author has been Phillip K. Dick ever since I read 'Do Androids Dream Of Electric Sheep?' After those two, I also like Douglas Adams and H.P. Lovecraft, and I couldn't possibly list off my favourite sci-fi writers with some mention of Marc Laidlaw(If you know who that is without having to Google him, then you probably like those goddamn games a bit too much. I know I do).

I voted Lovecraft...but Gibson...and Asimov...and...the choice was hard. But I voted Lovecraft because as much as I love robots, I love his horror a tiny bit more. At the moment at least.

Isaac is my favourite of those choices. Outside those choices, I choose Douglas Adams!

Yeah, I noticed most of them missing too. Not including Dick is just unacceptable.
