SPOILERS FOR STANLEY PARABLE.
DUH.
So, the remake of the Stanley Parable was fantastic. It expanded on the concept of the original, while also providing many new endings that fit perfectly. Each ending is great in its own way, but which is your favorite? Here's my Top 3:
3. Detonation Ending.
The core of this ending is unchanged from the original: Stanley turns the machine on instead of off, Narrator gets angry, standard high-stakes countdown as threaded through the Kobiashi Maru, happily ever af-. But the thing is, even after multiple replays, I still find myself clicking on everything in the room, hoping there's something I missed that would save me, even though that's the point. After all, there's just so many things to try!
Not to mention, this is the ending a lot of people try second, right after the Freedom ending, and it truly demonstrates how the Stanley Parable is different from the norm. This ending does exactly what it has to.
2. Confusion Ending.
Another prime example of subtext threaded into what at first seems like total anarchy, my first playthrough of this ending was just a mindfuck. I never knew just what to expect, and the Narrator's lines added to the hilarity. But after a few plays, I started listening to how the Narrator acted, and I saw what set this ending apart, what unique picture it painted: The Narrator is in the same boat as Stanley. Increasingly unnerved by the game's unpredictability, he eventually discovers that it's all just scripted, that the game's story isn't in his control. He even tries to make a choice of his own, only to realize that it, too, means nothing. He undergoes the same arc that you, Stanley, succumb to. The saddest part of it is, the ending occurs even when he refuses to comply, and he later forgets about it all as the game restarts. This goes along with what the second Narrator establishes in the Escape ending - that he's as controlled by the game as Stanley is. Truly thought-provoking.
1. Broom Closet Ending.
Obvious reasons.
(Note: There wasn't enough room in the options for all the endings. And really, who would've voted for the Stay In The Office ending, anyway?)
BONUS: Did you find heaven? And was it all you had dreamed of?
