Where are the Jedi Knight games
On the whole, I'd say KOTOR I suppose, but that's too easy of an answer considering what a solid rock that game is in the RPG genre. But for the followup, definitely Jedi Knight games and tbh, they're not too far off from KOTOR.
The thing about JK games is that that's as close as I ever came to feeling like I was playing a Jedi/Sith (Force/lightsaber user). KOTOR delivered a great story in an awesome game but the combat was pretty dreadful as it relied on queuing up the same attacks over and over again and relied way too much on the dice system, making it hard sometimes to see the difference between two attacks.
JK games had a bit of platforming (which for a third person game I find an absolutely amazingly fun feature as long as it's not forced or overdone), great lightsaber combat for the time it was made in (and made even better by a few mods) and fun Force powers that felt powerful but not overpowered. In contrast, I found TFU games absolutely awful. The telekinetics were done somewhat decently, but it felt way overpowered and lightsaber combat felt a lot more like mashing the one same button instead of working up different combos.
What I found to be most fun in JK games is the fact lightsaber hits do actually matter. You can pretty much die from 1-3 lightsaber slashes (depending on how much they cut you/if you have armor/Force protection/etc.), yet it doesn't leave the game feeling like one hitter crap. The fun part is dodging and using your lightsaber to actually try and intercept your opponent's because it actually leaves you feeling like you're in a lightsaber duel rather than a "who can smash the opponent x many times faster". The different lightsaber 'styles' were also awesome as it left you with both a choice of preferred style and it was quite often worth it to change the style mid-combat, especially in PvP.
