So, Escapists, which of the first three Pokemon of the Gold/Silver/Crystal games is your preference and why? Personally, I always picked Cyndaquill, but I'm open towards persuasion to a different starter.

I choose Totodile, cause it's a crocodile thingie or something.
And in HG/SS my Feraligatr had moves super effective against 11 of the 17 different types, so it rocked.

Cyndaquil, which also happens to be my second favorite out of all the starters (Mudkip being my favorite, simply because he evolves into Swampert).

Cyndaquil. Sure, he made the final boss frustratingly difficult unless and grind like a champ but he's awesome. In fact, he was my favorite starter EVER (take that, Charizard). Hell, I had Cyndaquil, Quilava, and Typhlosion pajamas as a kid. It seems I usually pick fire starters because water feels like a step back and grass-types are always disappointing (I'm looking at you, Treecko).
Cyndaquil. Sure, he's just a little mouse, whatever could he do? Hmm? What's that? His back lights on fire? AND he can breathe fire on his enemies? I've always been inclined to the fire starters just because of that reason. They're on fire, if they were in the real world, that would be bad-ass.
It's a throw up between Totodile and Cyndaquil. I mean I usually pick Totodile because it's...Totodile. A badass water-Pokemon, but Cyndaquil...So adorable~!
When I was a kid, crystal was the only pokemon game I owned, with the other only being the first generation. I chose Cyndaquil. I raised this pokemon from level 5, all the way to one hundred with absolutely no cheats. My dad had silver, and he picked Totodile. He raised it to level 80 or so, and his Fearigator still couldn't beat my Typhlosion. Know why? 'Cause my Typhlosion knew Thunder punch. So it can beat water, and fire. I'll stay with Cyndaquil.
Tier 2: Wartortle. He's an actual squirrel turtle, and that's awesome. None of the other tier 2's are nearly as cool-looking (Grovyle and Dewott almost come close).
Gen 2: I have to go with Cyndaquil. He's just so damn cute! plus he can burn things. I like Chikorita too, but only because Meganium's pretty, so... Chiky's out.

going to step away from what seems to be the norm here and say Chikorita, mostly because i'm a whore for grass types
I liked Gen 3. Mudkip (memespawner besides) evolved to have water and ground, basically making it a God. Can own fire types, electric types, rock and ground types. Awesome. And Blaziken was awesome too. And Grovile.J03bot said:

Personally I enjoyed playing through the game with both, but my experience was that there are much more Decent Water Pokemon in Gold and SIlver than there are Fire type ones. So Cyndaquil it was for me.
